- I was joined by Steve Jackson who has had a distinguished career, designing iconic games such as GURPS, Car Wars, The Fantasy Trip, and last, but not least - Munchkin!
Steve shared his journey from his first entry into the hobby, to lessons learned along the way, and the sharing of new games such as the re-releases of Car Wars and The Fantasy Trip.

Criminally underrated channel - thank you for your hard work.
Thanks for the kind words. The ones here are the ones I make the channel for!
I love Car Wars, Ogre, Melee & Wizard. I still have tons of original Car Wars materials and have lots of Ogre games and miniatures. For some reason I lost all of my TFT stuff (Melee, Wizard, and the advance books etc.), however I recently purchased the legacy edition. Its a great boxed set with awesome contents. Thank you Steve Jackson for bringing it back.
Gonna check this! Thanks for sharing! GURPS was very important for spreading RPG in Brazil back in the 90s!
I'm glad Steve got the rights back to produce The Fantasy Trip again. I'm a new player to the system and find the blend of fantasy tactical combat and role play really suits my wargamer and role player in me. The base 3D6 success roll under a character stat at the core of the system is great. Comparing to 2014's D&D 5e advantage / disadvantage mechanic, The Fantasy Trip already had a similar mechanic in 1980 for a player to add additional D6's such as 4d6 or more to reflect harder success rolls (disadvantage) or rolling fewer D6s like 1 or 2D6 to reflect easier success rolls (advantage).
Great interview! Steve is one of the very few people wise enough to stay afloat in the gaming industry where most have failed. I love TFT's little counters! I think SJGs need to try a line of 1/2" counters and maps.
Thanks for another great interview, Garry.
Thanks again for watching, and I'm glad you enjoyed it!
I agree art is very important. I personally find most of the modern art work for table top games, including GURPS 4e, to be nauseating and creepy. It looks it was done by a children's illustrator. In contrast Blue Wizard by Kirk Reinert on the cover of GURPS Magic is one of my all time favorite works of art.
Great interview! :-) I actually still own that original version of Ogre that came in the baggie! heh :-) It has different stat values for the heavy tanks than later printings had.
Just barely missed the premier of this interview but was hoping to ask @Steve Jackson how the development of WizWar 9th Ed is coming along and if there's an anticipated crowdfunding date on the horizon that can be shared? Thanks!
not the English one ! the American one ! both great in gaming.
Great interview!! He should have never went to GURPS 4e.
You mention link for
Friendly Local Game Store doc
But no link appears.
So where can we see the FLGS documentary?

How do I reach out to him
By email ? I wanna get him on a live interview for the illuminat card game.
Cyberpunk!!!
Steve is fairly uncommunicative here for some reason. The interviewer asks plenty of leading questions, and Steve just answers one or two and definitively ends the discussion with his answer. He could have provided some transition for the interviewer and offered some more insight here. But, not a bad interview overall...
Steve is not an easy interview. I've noted that before.
@@andreasdavour9973 I think the word I really wanted to describe this was; he's not "forthcoming." He answers the question, but never gives much of a lead for a discussion on most things. That's got to make it tough to do a lengthy interview with him!
@@jlv61560 oh yes. I am impressed by this one. He has been interviewed before and he is always like that.
