To me, A mexican. This game appealed to my "i wanna see some cool mexican culture shown in a tomb raider game" until I realized the game does the weirdest thing. The game went full idiot with "I'm gonna put a lost city of the mayans on peru in which people dress like aztecs" That's as if Lara went to france to find a lost egyptian pyramid in which everyone dresses as a japapense from the meiji era. It makes no goddamn sense, they could have saved it's mislocation if they had just said it was on chiapas, a zone that has the same type of jungle, animals shown in the game (yeah that jaguar type ain't a thing on peru) and was in the middle of the aztec and mayan empire so that the mix of cultures could and did in fact happened, it's also a region that does still have many ancient cultures still very much alive. but noooo for some reason they wanted to use the amazonian jungle, like why? That's not even the type of vegetation of the region and they completely ignored the incan culture of peru. So, it really makes no sense. Funniest part it's that the immersive mode that they put on the game in which everyone else speaks in spanish and or mayan (in peru, in which they speak Quechua) everyone is mexican, not peruvian so still that peruvian detail makes no damn sense.
the game literally tells you that Paititi is the result of Maya immigration and subsequent integration with other cultures slowly over the centuries. It's not supposed to be exclusively Maya/Aztec/Inca, all 3 cultures are represented in murals/documents/architecture for a reason. Like you mentioned yourself, you know cultures mixing is extremely common, how are you finding it hard to believe a specific Maya group of immigrants intermingled and mashed up with local cultures? Immigrants adopting the local culture into their own with a twist is a tale as old as time. Also your Egypt example is flawed af. Japan and Egypt are too far to be integrated, but Egypt has had plenty of influence from cultures that are near it. Egypt has/had a huge amount of Greek/Roman temples because of centuries of commercial and/or colonizational relationship. And the Maya wouldn't have to cross an ocean to reach Peru as well (as opposed to Greeks going to Egypt), so it's definitely within believe a mix of all 3 cultures could potentially exist. Also don't see your point about the jaguar... Those types of jaguars are definitely present in Peru and in other countries of South America. Only the last point makes somewhat sense, but that is easily explained as: practical reasons. I imagine it's pretty freaking hard to find a professional voice actor who speaks Quechua/Mayan, along with English, has a cleared schedule, works on video games, and lives somewhere close to the recoding studio to show up to work on a daily basis. And if they were separating Quechua from Mayan, the search would be twice as hard for a detail (a very nice one but still) that almost no one who is playing it will have enough knowledge to tell the difference. I mean hell, shadow has been released for 6 years and this is the first time I've seen someone mention remotely close to this.
@@MonerLaine honestly I am not surprised. We are talkong about the same dev team that kept changing Jonah's race in every installment of this trilogy. Because that's how race works I guess? @@olivergaspar6729 ugh not the race changing Jonah argument again... That's just such a simple view on character design. He always had a slightly darker skin tone than Lara, the biggest difference between Rise Jonah and TR2013 Jonah is that he has short curly hair, because his face is very faithful to OG Jonah. It's like... seriously people, black people aren't the only ones to have curly hair
1996 Lara would shoot you in the face for calling her Laura, and the only comic book about Lara thats worth reading is the 50 issue one that came out in 1996 that stays true to her original character, no parents, no stupid side kicks, no stupid daddy issues
At first I was excited to play Shadow because they added loads of environment traversal methods present in the original Tomb Raider games. Underwater exploration, the grapple rope, etc. made it feel more like the classic games of the past. But the story was dull, the characters were bland and the gameplay was repetitive and uninspired. And oh my god, the insipd pandering to the fictional culture of Paititi was super cringe. Lara's pretentious, virtue signaling dialogue does everything but scream "I revere your culture!" and everybody's so super nice to eachother and understanding of eachother despite the fact they have wildly contrasting backgrounds and values. It's just such a beige and insultingly bland game which I'd give a 6/10 as some of the locations are genuinely impressive.
The worst part is that they cancelled the Croft Manor dlc, which could have, at the very least, brought something enjoyable to the game as a final note and do a nice parallel with Rise's dlc.
My first TR games were the survivor trilogy, and I actually thought they were really good. Then I played the Legend trilogy and now my feelings have changed drastically.
Also Domingez is so uncharismatic as a villain, him being the leader of trinity is just incredibly unbelievable how does a random dude from a secret city even becomes the leader of a secret society around for 1000 years
The game was such a let down compared to the other two. The story seemed so weird compared to the other too but it's worse than I remembered lol. One little thing that really bother me was in shadow I would walk through mud that was almost up to my waist and come out completely clean,in Rise you'd always get so covered in snow and I just liked that effect but all that was gone in shadow
You know, I never found Trinity all that interesting as an Organisation. But even they deserves something better than this ridiculous ending. Why would the entire leading Council arrive to Dominguez' ritual? Can't they just set up a Zoom Call or something? And why do these extremly rich and powerful people all arrive in a single helicopter? Shouldn't they, for standard safety reasons, all come with their own Helicopter? So they can't be all wiped out in a single attack? Really, Dominguez himself is my biggest problem. I just don't buy that this guy is the highest ranking member of Trinity. He isn't treated with enough importance and he doesn't carry himself like the head of an all powerful, secret society either. I could have accepted him as an important member of the group, somebody who is ranked a bit higher....but the leader? If you ask me, this all feels like the writers trying to end everything in a single game: Dominguez was turned into the leader of Trinity so Lara could easily cut the off the head of the entire Organisation, the Council was flown in to make sure all possible other bad guys would die, and the comics-the most unbelievable part of the lore-somehow allowed a cook and an archaeologist to wipe out all the presumably very well hidden and well trained cells of an ancient conspiracy group....spread across the entire globe.
This one is a real slog. Every time I want to explore it forces me into an hour long cave challenge without the option to load an earlier save to get back, when I just want the game over and done with.
Hey, at least you got through it. I've started it twice and have not come close to finishing. I liked the first two games a lot. But the 3rd is boring to me personally
You're not missing much anyway, the game never manage to be as intense as it should be. I'd say maybe the tombs are the one thing worth playing (base game and dlcs), but other than that it is disappointing as a conclusion to the Survivor Trilogy.
For the first play I was like, ok that's nice. But unlike the Rise, it's a real downgrade, like wtf are you done kind of downgrade. This game have no replayability, I wanted to go again to play the DLC parts but holy hell I've dropped dead asleep before the DLC even was available to me. When it comes to story this was also a confusing mess, I've thought that Lara was suppose to, ya know, RISE in Rise ? WTF is this "Now i am a real Tomb Raider" arc for the THIRD TiMe in the trilogy ?
The whole reboot trilogy sucks in my opinion. I hated Rise mainly because of the stupid parent trauma motivation plot. I thought Shadow was better but that isn't a compliment. I only like the classics made by Core Design.
There’s something I can’t stand in this game: the gears that are disappearing while Lara is swimming underwater. This kind of bug cannot exist nowadays.
What annoyed me most was when Unuratu was shot by Rourke. And he just leaves and calls his people instead of just emptying his clip at Lara first, who was still just as exposed and without cover? I lost all my respect for this game at this point and just wanted it to finish... As for your point with that volcano...I think the mudslide essentially was due to the outbreak of it, signalled by all the fiery debris raining down. But maybe I'm wrong. What does it matter anyway x)
Gosh the story of this game is.. As you said not that bad, but it's still crap, nothing matters, it feels completely disconnected from the previous two game, the bad guy being the leader of trinity was like a joke, its pretty meh
For me, the storyline is the most boring out of the trilogy. The game has one exciting disaster scene in the beginning, that sets the player up to think they are about to play something epic. I can't speak on behalf of others, but i thought the main villain of this game was the worst of the trilogy. Very generic i felt, and it feels like they tried to go with the "misunderstood villain" trope. That can work if its done well....that wasn't done well, nor was he written well in this game. I will say some of the pros and cons of Shadow Of The Tomb Raider. Cons: So much climbing. It's like the creators of this one saw the last two games and thought "lets double down on the climbing and add more climbing features, because that's what people liked in the other games." Lack of combat. So instead of having as much combat as the other games, I think the creators decided what everyone really wanted was more puzzles. I myself, like puzzles, but not as a replacement for combat. By the time the third game rolls out, we expect Lara to be seasoned, and put the skills she has acquired over the first two games to use. No good supportive characters. I know this is subjective, but for me a story driven game also needs good supporting characters you can root for. Jonah had 3 games to make this work and never managed. Pros: The camouflage mechanic. This is one of the features that made me buy the game when i first saw a video of it. But again, because of the lack of combat in the game, you probably won't be using this feature as much as you would like to. A shame, this could of been the saving grace if used right. The actual Tombs: One highlight that i really do enjoy are the tombs. It's one area i thought was creative and and thought out. I just wish this level of creativity was put into the storyline. If there is one reason to buy and play the game, its for the tombs.
definately rise of the tomb raider is my best but, the best thing about shadow is that they made such lived-in places like kwakyaku and paititi with civillien doing their jobs and marketplaces. they were very real-looking places

But in my opinion, in the reboots, Laura was a good balance between soft, feminine and superhuman. She was physically gorgeous (especially in rise of the tomb raider). And the gameplay was good. Though puzzles could have been better. Its a shame any future LC games will be way worse because the ideologs in charge have decided being beautiful and feminine is bad.
