No thank you. Just kidding. lol The first one he lists is my house I lean in to the moody academia but I also love a crisp white wall. My living room is bright white with molding. Texture is everything. If your white house is boring, you’re doing it wrong.
Dark fosters depression. I need to stick to lighter (def warm) colors for decor and save the jewel tones for clothing that will be changed at the end of the day.
I have been painting all the 1970s paneling in my recently purchased wartime house white. Lower electrical bills more light and fewer spiders. White pink and turquoise exterior to keep it cooler and deter insects of any kind.
@@dandylandpuffplaysminecraf8744 I intensely disliked that paneling when it was being installed in the 60s and 70s! And yes, painting is the easy way to make it go away. Should you ever long for smooth walls, you most likely have plaster and lathe underneath. You might even get lucky and have sheetrock, the predecessor to drywall. However, if the house was completely rewired during the 70's, the original wall finishes were sometimes completely removed to make wiring amd extra insulation easier. White will of course immediately lighten the gloom of that paneling. However, if any of your rooms do not receive as much natural light as you would prefer, those White walls can actually read as gray.Often in a house lacking natural light a warmer/yellow-y/ creamier tone can actually brighten the space more than just plain white. The pink and turquoise is very complimentary to your wartime era home. I simply realized almost immediately after graduating from design school that I prefer earth tones in my personal spaces. I'm also a bit bug phobic myself, painting the interior of cabinets a creamy paint with some sheen to expose spiders. But I am literally deathly allergic to bees and wasps, so those bright colors on the outside are a no go for me!
I've never jumped on the grey bandwagon as I think it's lifeless and everything looks like it's had an undercoat and you're still deciding on the top coat colour. 😂
Navy/midnight blue with a lighter-midtone brown and stark white is so crisp looking. I'm a fan. It's like an inverse of the previously-popular sky blue and deep walnut brown combo, which I also thought looked great in a lot of rooms.
Not me with the velvet emerald green curtains and gold/brass curtain rod.... I love the combo. Super glad its getting trendy. I picked it two years ago because I wanted something different from all the gray. Aaaand I have walnut?! First time in my life Ive ever been trendy.
My MIL still has her green and brass from the early 2000s and it still looks phenomenal. She was lucky to skip the cold, gray trend and stuck with the classic. It's classic for a reason!
In our 1910 craftsman we just did our bathroom in the first color combo! Dark green on all walls + ceiling, wood stained vanity and accents with white marble top and brass fixtures! We love it so much! Our claw foot tub and plants compete the room. Oh and we did it for only $1,200! Just a bit of paint and a new vanity. Transformed. We have two big windows in the room and the floor is creamy/bright white so it doesn’t feel too dark in there.
Yep, I was looking for this comment. I worked for Linens and Things when the Jewel Tones were big in the 80's. I got so sick of Emerald, Burgundy, and Lapis! Please DON'T bring these back in the same way!
Thank you for showing color schemes that give these beautiful colors context and balance 😊 These are really beautiful colors and it good see they are coming back. I hope this is not off-putting, but "hunter green," navy blue, and "burgundy" are the colors I associate with the way traditional/classic was being interpreted in the 1980s (think Cheers) The "hunter green" especially - it was super popular for few years in cozy little bars and restaurants as well as homes, and then it got so popular it was considered cliche and suddenly it was out of fashion. In homes, there was a tendency to use dark green, blue, and red colors in one room, which was too much. You are showing how these colors should be used to bring out their beauty without being overwhelming. - you are the pro!
😂 I can think of several people who are waiting for mauve to be trendy again! Either because they still have a lot of mauve (think grandma), it was a reaction to the ex-husband not allowing anything remotely pink, goes great with all the breast cancer support items they bought, goes great with the pink camouflage they love, or it just looks good behind their favorite human!
We live out in the so I prefer light and Breezy or airing myself. But I also want color so I choose to use the color in my furnishings. Not the cluttered look mighty all kind of colors to make you crazy but smartly done. I would think there are right and a wrong way to incorporate color in the home.
I have instead of dark green, dark wood and cream like a blueish green, dark wood and ivory ans it makes really love it , not sure if it's right for design but I love the light that flows in the house
First combo, i have that in my pins for the longest time, though I don't plan on using brass but rather just lighter color wood. Very excited to finally go all in with it soon.
Burst out laughing at the first one, sitting on my dark green sofa in my cream and brass accented living room with walnut wood and art deco styling. I've been so proudly proclaiming how I avoid interior fashion trends and just go with what I like... Guess that's not as true as I imagined. That 'blue sweater' scene from The Devil Wears Prada comes to mind 😅
I especially love the first color combinations and too love Art Deco! What is the best way to use in a small living room? It seems that those colors have the potential to make a small room look even smaller.
Man does this feel validating. Painted my kitchen/dining room that first color scheme and no one trusted the process. Now it has such a cozy vibe to it when the morning light shines in. No regrets.
I love the first one. I personally just did my living room in dark academia/ gallery in the color Wedge Flat, Benjamin Moore, Brass accent, Dusty Rose, jacquard drapes...love the vibe so much
The first one is so easy to get wrong and end up with something looking cheap. The second one is fine but too dark by itself so you only see it in minimalist styles and paired with a really modern white. The last one is my favorite and hard to get wrong. ❤
"Red wine & walnut".. i never know what to call these colours.. I sometimes refer to them as plum or raisin, Look beautiful w slate blue. One of my favourite colour combinations.
Oh yes dark brown, green, cream and brass! If you happen to wonder what it would be like to live in a Benigans Restaurant or any other 1980s restaurant decor! Wait! Wow! Glad you said you love Art Deco! Do yoy prefer French Aet Deco or American?I'm so glad you mentioned this. You crack me up (in a good way)! You're such a contradiction but I think you have lots of great ideas! ❤️
These are the color combos I've seen in almost all horror movies. And trust me, I've seen a lot of horror movies. Not saying it's bad, but sets the mood
Thank you for info on new tones. This video came up just a I am sprucing up my apartment.. Something that I have found’ in a small apartment’. If I use a large amount of the darker darker shades for a whole wall can be stifling. So judicious approach is best.
Yes I also crave color . And will incorporate the colors that I have in a park normal. I don't care what's in fashion what's out of fashion. I just wanted to be me. And that spells comfort at home. I like it all so I'm going to try to have it all. LOL
The first one is exaclty the color scheme of my new bedroom. A few months ago, I couldn't find anything affordable in the green I wanted, but I kept telling everyone it was going to be coming into style and things would pop up in about a year. The color is just now trickling in, and I still haven't found good textiles I can afford in the color, but it's getting there! Strangely enough, I didn't choose that palette to be on trend. I just recently moved back to the Pacific Northwest (I grew up here) from California, and I relaized in California during quarantine how much I loved and missed green. The cream and dark brown came about due to it matching the architecture of the home (There's detailing inside that looks like the outside of old european tudor homes, and I painted it to match. It also gives the added impression of it being an outdoor space, which I love since it draws your attention to the nature outside the window), and the brass just so happened to be what the metal details in the room already were. I wasn't expecting to see this color palette here, but it's a nice surprise for sure!
People in the past clearly like cozy and nap inducing spaces. I feel like the modern person needs a pick-me-up in their home because of all the million tasks we face everyday hence the light, bright, and airy aesthetic most of us love.
I have the first combo in my room. But also have matt black, grey and navy. I am actually surprised how it didn't end up looking like an eclectic mix of just everything
That wine brown color is amazing! It’s like I’m seeing a new color for the first time! Also what do you think about painting the ceiling the same color as the walls in a normal small house?
I love the ones you show! But am I the only one instantly brought back to split level homes and the 90s!? Someone’s brand new “fancy” home back then? Ha
Dark and moody, loving it! I can't take the light, bright, and boring. Have some fun and personality with color. I refuse to live in a black and white sitcom or some government looking building.
I would like if you could address how we can combine blue, grey, brown and tan. It seems that you use the first three colours in your house (from what I can see in the video), and it inspires me to try it.
The final color you showed is not what I'd call navy. There's def some yellow mixed with that blue, it's more teal. The color in the final photo is what I used in my dining room. It's a greeny blue and it looks great with walnut.
So relieved to see COLOR coming back into interior spaces....we need to see LIFE,VITALITY, interests/humor, etc. in people's homes.
Unless you're like me and neutral grey & brown colors calms you down
@@jessa9877 there's always someone...

@@theta33yes because we all should have our own taste in design
The 1st is the prettiest but when you live in a tropical climate none of these dark moody interiors work AT ALL when you have bright sunshine 24/7.
Right 👍 Love my Tropical colors 😍
Right 👍... Love my Tropical colors & styles. 🥰
Such a fair point!
@@Nick_Lewis Love your work 🥰

So wonderful to see earth tones making a comeback!

Love the green and blue, wine not so much.
The Forrest green, brass and cream white has been a trend since 2012 and I still love it! :)

Remember these color combos from the early to mid 90s in homes around Houston, Texas. 😀
Love this! So glad forest green is back baby! Reminds me of my parents house from the 90’s.
I lived thru the forrest green era of the 90s. I can't go back there ever again.
Same. We're just now getting rid of the original hunter green carpet in our early 2000s house.
I like the first one🏅that green is settled without feeling dark and cold!!
I’m finally back in style 😂 I love the darker colors especially in greens and browns, it’s so comfy, reminds me of a walk in the woods.
Finally some colors and character❤
We had these colors in the 80’s too.
And they are still in and outside of some houses. Can't stand them.

This is a very useful video to show good examples of color comb. I love the first one
Forest green for the win!

Green is my favourite colour so I was thrilled to see it trending at the same time I was furnishing my first home :D

And the wine/walnut s giving early 90s lol

So weary of gray!
My mum used to have a similar colour combination to the first- olive green, cream, brown & mustard. I’m thinking of doing the same myself.
Jesus finally some colors
So glad to get away from endless grays. I feel like designers have been under a cloud for the last 20 years with all that gray!

LOVE ART DECO TOO !!!
My kitchen is the 1st colour combo, and living room applies the 2nd combo! Love! xoxo from Sunny Singapore
The dark green color combo is just gorgeous, especially with the brass. But I would get tired of it. I can’t repaint my house every couple years.
People in the past clearly like cozy and nap inducing spaces. I feel like the modern person needs a pick-me-up in their home because of all the million tasks we face everyday hence the light, bright, and airy aesthetic most of us love.
I am SO GLAD millenial gray and the black/white/red color scheme are dead. 🎉🎉🎉 Bring me all the colours!
I love all of these combos!❤
Post covid the white ssterile look is so out. I love the color . i think a lot of this works most for high ceilings.
An actual footage of Nick going through my pinterest 😁❤️
I love the blue cabinets. Used to be you could not find that color from the manufacturers. Now it’s available everywhere.
I have the first combo in my room. But also have matt black, grey and navy. I am actually surprised how it didn't end up looking like an eclectic mix of just everything
I prefer white, light blue, and orange. 😊
Color combinations to bring an all-white shaker kitchen into the 2020’s? Thank you Nick!
My bedroom is the first one. Love it so much. My room is like a perfect cave to sleep in. Very sultry and calming.
I recently put the following colors together in an outfit and loved them...pale peach, terra cotta and a deep plum.
Eggplant color would look nice on all of them but especially the 2nd one

Dark and moody, loving it! I can't take the light, bright, and boring. Have some fun and personality with color. I refuse to live in a black and white sitcom or some government looking building.
Gives outdated 70s vibes . Black and white is absolutely timeless . Matched with a rose gold ✨
Dark green and pink!
I love the way you explained this ❤
I’m not sure if you seen wine and blue and cream it looks incredible 😊
Loved this, so sick of gray and white!!!!!
I am trying to rid my house of anything farmhouse, and neutrals
More color combo shorts please!
Those do look classy. I think I’ll stick with my pink and purple
My favorite color combo is dark navy and bright yellow 😂
I love white/cream, beige, blue and gold
I'm the blue-beige-cream-white, that's my house, I love it.
Lovely calueres from F&B.

Is giving 1990 ❤
The first colour combo bathroom sink is so old, the app redecor had it as a challenge years ago 😂
First one is my dorm room pallet (minus the brass)
Nick, can you please tell me the brand/color name of the first set with the brown, green, and cream!? 🙏🏽
The red is also so warm!
I like all those combinations
I would get very depressed living with these dark colours. They also remind me of the 70s and 80s.
The issue is then that the room really does seem dark. Light and lighting will be key!
I felt so called out with the first one 👀
