Young Muslims speak out about mental health impact of lockdown

- They are calling it the silent pandemic. During the last year of lockdowns, youth centres in Bradford reported a record number of young people seeking support for mental health issues.

But many from the city's Muslim community say there's still a taboo when it comes to speaking out about the issue.
We went to hear some of their stories.

Why are you phrasing it 'young muslims', Channel 4 needs to stop typing to identify people based on assumption
The vast majority of Pakistanis are.
Maybe because its about Muslims hello you should be happy they are even giving us muslims a voice.
@@thenextgen5427 Is the issue talked about in this video Muslim-specific?
@@davidz2562 you ignorant person maybe watch the full video and you will get your answer the "muslim community "
Its very simple don't watch the video if you dont like what you see
@@davidz2562 and stop liking your own comments hahaha
Mental health is real but I believe giving people the tools and knowledge on how to deal with this rather than constantly speaking about it & doing nothing is not gonna help anyone. People need to realise that there are support groups & people out there who can help privately which does have a cost unfortunately but the groups are free if you can find them.
I'm not sure you watched or comprehended the video or you will appreciate the specific set of challenges this demographic states and why their needs are not being addressed adequately.
@Cian MacGana blame your government for that if you got a problem with Migrants!
Muslims have many different nationalities. You mean some or certain cultural Asian communities .
In Bradford, the large majority are Pakistani.
Exactly! Asian not Muslim!
@@ladyk3957 In Bradford, the large majority of Asians are Muslims & vice versa.
Nearly all Muslims in Bradford are Pakistanis.
They aren't Muslim
Love that barber shop initiative!
The reason for Bradford's young average age is the very high birth rate of its Pakistani population.
Yes, Muslims have many kids and at a much younger age than westerners
@@blade5896 Russian trolls start shaving when they are six. That's just the girls.
Bradfords “British” population you mean. Not Pakistani.
Regardless, the high birth-rate is due to socio-economic reasons. As you’ll realise, if you bother to research, the more people earn the less kids they have. Descendants of British-Pakistanis are having less kids as expected.
Your reply was deleted but I manage to read it. You made many loaded statements it’s beyond belief. Let’s stick with one. You literally contradicted yourself!
You said Pakistanis (British Pakistani’s to correct you) have more kids than people in Pakistan. Surely, it isn’t related to religion then? As the state of pakistan (and it’s people) are more religious than people here. 😂 how does you point make sense? Kids are based on socio-economic outcomes. Read the link below on paragraph 6. Poland is number 1 for women born outside the UK giving birth. Is that because they are Muslims too? 🤦🏼♂️
www.ons.gov.uk/peoplepopulationandcommunity/birthsdeathsandmarriages/livebirths/bulletins/parentscountryofbirthenglandandwales/2016
@@Oasis194 If they're British, why don't they even try to integrate & live as British people do?
It certainly is related to religion. Pakistanis don't become less religious due to living outside their country.
Religion is a much bigger determinant than socioeconomic background. Religion is by far the largest determinant of birthrates. Every country in the world which has a high birthrate is both religious & poor. It's religion which is the main cause of high birthrates & the poverty that high birthrates cause.
Poland is at the top of that list because they're in the UK in the highest numbers. Poles don't have a high birthrate. Poland has a lower birthrate than the UK.
All my statements in my comment which was unjustly deleted are true & relevant - none of them are loaded. There's no reason that religion - the world's worst problem - shouldn't be analysed & criticised in the same way as politics.
Do you think it's a good idea for people who live in poor, crowded conditions to have many kids - by their own cousins? Being poor is no excuse for that - access to contraception in the Western world isn't blocked to the poor.
What is the name of the song 1.38 ?
Why religion and not ethnicity?
Probably because they have a strong Muslim identity

Why does their religion have anything to do with it????

Facts, you're just told to pray more, be closer to God.
They aren't even Muslim
@NINJA THEORY Nobody cares about Islam anymore
Happen to all not only muslims . Hello...
What about the parents?
They are the ones enforcing the taboos as do others in the Muslim Community as they call it. It is unfortunately a large tribal bubble as basically the inhabitants of a region of Pakistan relocated at once in the '50s and more followed. Imagine Stoke on Trent relocating to Sindh in one lump

South Asian you mean not Muslims!
The solution is easy,stop lockdowns.
My mum passed away don't have any monygi to the gym
Anybody can help me
Hi
Maybe the young Muslims might feel happier if they moved to traditional Muslim countries in Asia or Africa after the pandemic, on a purely voluntary basis, obviously. Culture is a powerful thing and they might feel ill at ease in this northerly country. Just a thought.
You should too!!!
Think you should leave the country
Shove off.
Culture is a powerful thing but just remember British people settled in countries like Australia and New Zealand..... hardly northerly countries my friend.
@@AnthonyD-yy2in An inconvenient truth.

If I immigrated to Bradford, I would not change my accent to a Bradford one. I am much stronger than that. I would retain my original indigenous accent of my ancestors.
@Cian MacGana Only if you are WEAK.
@Cian MacGana Done
You wouldn't be welcome there with that attitude anyway.
lol, are you alright? If you were raised in Bradford, you'd have that accent, if you were rasied in London you would've had the London accent, these people are perhaps like 3rd or 4th generation

Redical Islam is a problem... Embress sufiyan way of Islam for eternal peace
Every religion has its radical reasons even urs if u see Islam only is in the hotspot even channel 4 focus on its mental health so why all this & why you want the soft Islam like sufism what personally you face with Islam don’t be intolerant & answer rationally.
The problem is that mainstream Sunni and Shia Islam IS radical Islam. Which is why Sufis are persecuted in Islam. As are Alevites. They're viewed as heretics because they are not orthodox enough.
Is your own fault for choosing Islam. Nobody forced it on you
Everything they spoke about is cultural nothing Islamic related
Hahaha, stop drinking.
Somebody has to be in the spotlight
?? What about their parents? Religious parents always force their religion on the children, that’s the same for almost all religions.
