- Hello everyone,
unfortunately I couldn't do a full wild camp but I still wanted to test out my new Dutch Army Tent. A day camp with pretty much full kit.
Many thanks,
Ant.

I'm 6'6", so that looks like a great tent for me. I might have to borrow a supermarket trolley to heave it around, though.
Yes, definitely plenty of room in there for you pal. Have a nosy through my content, there's plenty of videos featuring it. Yeah I wouldn't like to climb a mountain with it strapped to my back lol
Hi, I used to be in the Dutch army, I think the guideline-things are like that because you can zip these tents together. Not sure, because we almost never used the tents because of the weight (airmobile brigade, so we had to carry everything).
Ronnie Postma Hello Ronnie thank you for commenting and thank you for your service buddy. Ahh I see, yeah they do zip together to form bigger tent options and the weight is bloody ridiculous for sure. Thank you for watching, commenting and thank you for subbing mate. Cheers, Ant.
I think they're worth the weight! When I was in the army, my pack and gear weighed more than I did. If you're only going a couple of miles into the woods, it seems like a great sturdy option.
Hey Dennis, thanks again bud for watching. Yeah it’s definitely manageable where I normally camp but I certainly would like to carry it up mountains.
Your right it’s solid mate and very cheap to buy, they have gone up in price over the past year but still cheap.
Thank you for your service too buddy, I have much respect for men and women like you. Cheers, Ant 👍
Hi just subscribed. I ordered my Dutch tent 2 days ago. I am new to this as well in my forties but love being outdoors. Looking forward to watching your other videos. Paul
Paul Robinson morning Paul, first off thank you mate for taking the time to watch and also sub to the channel, good of you.
The Dutch army tent is brilliant you won’t be disappointed mate, I shall be out again in it very soon.
Great to hear that you are trying out wild camping, your never too old to try just look at me haha bad back and all 👍.
If you go back from the start of my video’s they will take you on my learning journey and hopefully help you when you first venture out. It’s the most exciting time doing your first wild camp but you also want things to go well so you’ll want to get out and do it again.
All the best to you and look forward to hearing how you went on Paul 👍. Cheers, Ant.
Great looking tent! I have the same one. Good idea to seam seal it and use with a tarp if rain is a possibility - they can leak quite a bit. That said they seem to be quite durable. Mine came in great shape to. For their faults they're still great tents - not for the through hikers 15 lbs./apx. 6.82 Kg. Throw in a tarp and a ground sheet and you have some serious weight for long hikes - doable though for most people in good shape. I have one of those German hexi stoves to - I prefer the wood/twig stoves.
Lovely tent, if you can carry them those old canvas tents are great. Looking forward to hearing all about your first solo camp out. Love the music too.
Hadwydd VW Hi Hadwydd yeah I love military gear, robust, tough as old boots 👍. Yes, overnighter planned Thursday or Friday this week so hoping the video will be up Saturday at the latest.,thanks buddy.
Great video !
Hello mate, thank you! Thank you very much 😊. Cheers, Ant 👍
Well I've not seen these before so thee's right lad, thanks for putting it up.
Mark Doney-Mccloud no problem Mark, thanks for the watch and comment bud 👍
Great little vid mate. Got a few of the gang that use Dutch army tents and they love them.
Survival Management Group -SMG- Hi there SMG, thank you mate for watching and your comment. Yeah they are a fun tent, a little on the heavy side but if you aren’t going that far then they are brill.
I must get out again soon in it. Cheers, Ant 👍
The two draw strings are for when you connect a second tent to it pal, you might already know that now mate 👍
Ahh no I didn’t, top tip although I wouldn’t like to carry two and try it 🤣. Thanks again buddy for watching 👍
Going to give my Subscription based on this video as I enjoyed it and I have been researching people's opinions both good and bad on the Dutch Army Canvas Tent. I know they're heavy, but I reckon they're bomb proof too.
Robert's Bulgaria Hello Robert, thank you for the sub and also your comment.
Yeah I need to get back out in the Dutch, it’s a fun tent and looks amazing. Cheers, Ant 👍
Tent is Awesome buddy .. cheers Chris & Sam
Hi Chris, hi Sam. Thank you guys, yeah it's a good tent, I love how it looks. Thank you for taking the time to watch 👍. All the best, Ant
Another great video Ant 🐜. Love the fact that you just want to get out, think you have the bug lol ATB Andy. Hope to see you gain soon mate.
Andy Outdoors yeah I love being out but it’s not always possible for a overnighter. A day camp is a good second best 🙂. Yes would be good to hook up together mate, how does April sound? There’s a bothy I wanna check out up by Penrith 👍
April sound good to me mate 👍
Andy Outdoors Nice one bud, we’ll get it organised 👍
Very nice good show I need to get one thanks
Willis Blevins Hey Willis, thank you very much sir, glad you enjoyed it 👍. Yes, it’s a very good shelter, well worth a buy. Cheers, Ant.
I feel that little stove would br a good sort of “second” thing to boil ya brew if ya just stopping for a bit or while ya foods on the go
SpackaChops Hey Gaz, yeah these kind of stoves burn hot and fast, great for hikes for sure and great when your carrying too much like I did in this one lol.
Hope you all are doing well? Here’s hoping the little one grows in to a wild camper haha
Nice one Ant, A penny stove would fit inside that esbit thing a treat, or one of those emergency meths burners
Step away from the screens yeah good idea man, penny stove I like that. Cheers for watching Lee, we must have been watching each other’s videos at the same time, I’ve just finished commenting on your lol
Great minds mate
Decent tent Ant , looking forward to seeing it used on an overnighter . I guess its not in the ultra light bracket lol bring on the solo wild camp atb Dave...
Border Rambler Hey Dave, bloody hell yeah it’s heavy mate for sure. Yes, I’m toying with the idea of Thursday night to camp, finish at 1pm so can be up there for 3pm 👍 I’m hoping for rain that night lol. Cheers bud.
Love these old ex military tents. It blends in really well with the woodland, I noticed. Lots of room inside as well. That hole between the zips ls the only real thing that would bother me but I reckon you could get round that somehow.
I've just bought a polish lavvu from the same place. Great store. 👍
Hello Dan hope your well. Yeah me too, they are well built normally and this is, it’s just let down by the holes.
There are many mods out there but the best I’ve seen is a strip of canvas across where the holes are to let the water pass over it.
Great choice in getting the Lavvu mate too, hope you enjoy it.
Thanks for watching bud 👍, Ant.
@@AntSurviveTheNight cheers pal. Hope we can get out soon and give them a test run 🤞
I just happened upon this video. I like this tent design because of the ease of ingress/egress. But compared to my French Army F-2, I'll stick with my F-2. I like your camp chair. I saw one the other day which needs only three sticks/branches & gets you off the ground.
Hi there Barone, yeah two quality tents in my eyes mate. I too have a soft spot for the F2 as it came with me on the canoe challenge last year, love it!
Yeah I know the ones. You can purchase one from Mike's store TA Outdoors mate 👍
Considering buying the Dutch Army Tent as it’s canvas and authentic army issue.
Hello mate, I would do, they are so much fun but just be aware, they are heavy and leak pal 👍
@@AntSurviveTheNight Got mine coming this week. £49 Goarmy. Sold my modern 6 kg Coleman Darwin +3. and expecting a new weight around 6.9 kg for the Dutch Army tent. It’s got to be easier to get in and out of, plus two doors , two poles, and 6 guys. Quicker set up time.
I have a DPM Basha 7 x 8. Which I plan to use over the tent as a cooking area out the rain and protection for the tent . Easier to shake off rain in the morning you put tent away.
Ahh gone up slightly then, I picked mine up for £35 I think. £49 is still good considering what you get
Yeah you'll be totally fine with that plus the weight goes up considerably when the canvas gets wet lol
May i please ask the name and brand of the folding seat. Also thanks for the in depth review of the tent I didn’t know it had air vents at the top sides. Thank you for that also I’m now a new sub of your channel thanks to this video.
Zombie Chris Hey there Chris and welcome to the channel buddy. Thank you very much for watching, commenting and your sub mate 👍.
Yeah the chair is called the Highlander Portable Outdoor Seat. I paid £12.45 off eBay. It still gets used but mainly by my son now, I’ve got a Aldi camp chair but will still use this when I’m in the Lavvu.
Yeah the Dutch Army tent is awesome, I need to get back out in it 👍. Cheers, Ant.
Another brilliant video mate! Definitely gave me more to think about mate, I didn’t realise how big it was! I toyed with the idea of one of those stoves as well, saw a video on on them and the guy stood 2 tablets in the little slots in the bottom and it burnt for a lot longer apparently, thinking of going for a crusader cup set myself, but maybe a hexistove would be a good lightweight option, id imagine you can still use sticks and things in it too.
You’ve got me planning where to go for my first solo camp now haha, there is a place near by which you pay for but is as close as you can get to wild camping that I’m toying with the idea of popping to
RIcky Out And About thanks for watching Ricky. Yeah it’s a Chucky tent for sure lol. With regards to the stove I’d say it’s very hand and light, maybe not my first choice but I enjoyed using it. If your going for the crusader setup go for the stainless steel cup. I bought the black one and it bubbles and started to flake.
If you can find somewhere local to you that you don’t have to pay for then I’d say you would have a better experience. I like the idea of it being free. You’ve paid for your kit mate don’t pay for your camping when you don’t need to bud 👍
Survive The Night good to know mate! I would of bought the black one if you hadn’t of said! Thought with it being Teflon coated it might be easier to clean plus looks more stealthy lol
RIcky Out And About yeah I thought the same, definitely stay away from the black ones mate
Don't forget to use the velcro tabs on the base of the poles and tent . Regards
Thanks Remy, I do now normally but then again I took it out this weekend for a day camp and didn’t 🙄. Cheers mate, Ant 👍
Hi mate, great to see you out again. I am so relieved that you are aware of the zip weakness but a light weight DPM 3X3 tarp would be a good solution and I feel the Dutch tent is a great protection from wind and cold and a great kit if you utilize it well, think I'll try one, really looking forward to your rain test and wishing you all the best. Really nice film again, keep em coming bud. Atb. Harry.
Flying Haggis Films hi Harry, yeah I really like it and also it’s very stealthy. Yeah I watched quite a few videos on it before my purchase so I knew about the holes 👍. I am hoping to get some rain on the camp this week, who know it might put me off it lol.
Charlie had a good idea, how about two square pieces of Velcro over the bottom of the zips
Charlie’s your man he’ll keep you right and watch your back what a great idea. Atb. Harry
Nice one 👍
Thanks for Sharing, How are you getting on with this Tent ? I had one a while a go but my friend was after one so i let it go but i will be getting another one, ATB, Subbed 👍
Lavuu Wildcamper Hello Lavvu Wildcamper. Yeah I love the tent it’s very cool. I’ve just had a camp last weekend out in it. I wanted to test it in a heavy rain storm to see how bad it leaked haha. Thank you very much mate for watching and also for your sub, it’s much appreciated. Cheers, Ant 👍
Subscribed! Great video. Do you mind if I ask you where you bought the tent from?
malcolmyoungacdc hello Malcom, thank you for the sub and no not at all, ask me whatever you like if I can help I will 👍. I purchased it from Military Mart mate, £35 plus £7 postage. Army surplus is just so robust.
Great thank you!
Hello the stove really hope u start getting more subs well u should get a big tent to so u can have more for other stuff
C DC's Thank you C DC’s, I hope to get more subs too cause it’s kinda nice haha. Thank you for watching mate. Cheers, Ant 👍
Nice vid, thanks mate. But I won't be rushing out to buy one of those tents. I wd say that most of my camping experiences have been in the shoulder seasons & winter, so I need a top quality tent. IMV there is NOTHING to beat a proper double-skinned tent with an all round flysheet (also, with an all round flysheet, you can cook in the porch in foul weather). But the forces need a tent that is tough, simple, quick & easy to erect (and I do like the camo pattern). I see that driving rain will easily penetrate the point where the three zips meet, if not the rest of the fabric. What's the weight of the DAT? I had an old Mk1 Vango, only lasted 37 years, replaced it with a Vango U/L Xenon - amazing, 1.8kg with additional groundsheet. (And then there's all those American vids about using TARPS - eyes roll!) Thanks anyway.
Theo N de Bray Hello Theo, yeah I certainly wouldn’t take it out in a rain storm without sorting the areas where it is prone for leaking. I’m actually on the look out for a 3-4 man tipi for the winter months but this is just a bit of fun for me on those dry days that I want to do a local woodland wild camp.
You’re looking at 7kg for the full weight of the shelter, I would say it’s the plastic bath tub that weighs it down. It could be a mod project to sort out a lighter bottom to it. Thank you for watching the video and thank you for your comment my friend 👍. Cheers, Ant.
Theo N de Bray I saw another video with the reviewer slating this tent, but an ex Dutch army guy said that they were meant to be set up with, I think it was the long slope (if not, it was the shorter slope) facing the oncoming wind and weather, so the zips wouldn’t get the driving rain hitting them.
i thought it was barrow bridge at first. Sunday night would be better for your wild camp, kids are at school and the animals come out to play!! :)
Nomak I’d have to be back to take Charlie to school bud 👍
@@AntSurviveTheNight get thoud wife to do that lol
