  • Hello everyone,
    unfortunately I couldn't do a full wild camp but I still wanted to test out my new Dutch Army Tent. A day camp with pretty much full kit.
    Many thanks,
    Ant.

    I'm 6'6", so that looks like a great tent for me. I might have to borrow a supermarket trolley to heave it around, though.

      Yes, definitely plenty of room in there for you pal. Have a nosy through my content, there's plenty of videos featuring it. Yeah I wouldn't like to climb a mountain with it strapped to my back lol

    Hi, I used to be in the Dutch army, I think the guideline-things are like that because you can zip these tents together. Not sure, because we almost never used the tents because of the weight (airmobile brigade, so we had to carry everything).

      Ronnie Postma Hello Ronnie thank you for commenting and thank you for your service buddy. Ahh I see, yeah they do zip together to form bigger tent options and the weight is bloody ridiculous for sure. Thank you for watching, commenting and thank you for subbing mate. Cheers, Ant.

    I think they're worth the weight! When I was in the army, my pack and gear weighed more than I did. If you're only going a couple of miles into the woods, it seems like a great sturdy option.

      Hey Dennis, thanks again bud for watching. Yeah it’s definitely manageable where I normally camp but I certainly would like to carry it up mountains.
      Your right it’s solid mate and very cheap to buy, they have gone up in price over the past year but still cheap.
      Thank you for your service too buddy, I have much respect for men and women like you. Cheers, Ant 👍

      Paul Robinson morning Paul, first off thank you mate for taking the time to watch and also sub to the channel, good of you.
      The Dutch army tent is brilliant you won’t be disappointed mate, I shall be out again in it very soon.
      Great to hear that you are trying out wild camping, your never too old to try just look at me haha bad back and all 👍.
      If you go back from the start of my video’s they will take you on my learning journey and hopefully help you when you first venture out. It’s the most exciting time doing your first wild camp but you also want things to go well so you’ll want to get out and do it again.
      All the best to you and look forward to hearing how you went on Paul 👍. Cheers, Ant.

    Great looking tent! I have the same one. Good idea to seam seal it and use with a tarp if rain is a possibility - they can leak quite a bit. That said they seem to be quite durable. Mine came in great shape to. For their faults they're still great tents - not for the through hikers 15 lbs./apx. 6.82 Kg. Throw in a tarp and a ground sheet and you have some serious weight for long hikes - doable though for most people in good shape. I have one of those German hexi stoves to - I prefer the wood/twig stoves.

    Love these old ex military tents. It blends in really well with the woodland, I noticed. Lots of room inside as well. That hole between the zips ls the only real thing that would bother me but I reckon you could get round that somehow.

      There are many mods out there but the best I’ve seen is a strip of canvas across where the holes are to let the water pass over it.

    I just happened upon this video. I like this tent design because of the ease of ingress/egress. But compared to my French Army F-2, I'll stick with my F-2. I like your camp chair. I saw one the other day which needs only three sticks/branches & gets you off the ground.

    Another brilliant video mate! Definitely gave me more to think about mate, I didn’t realise how big it was! I toyed with the idea of one of those stoves as well, saw a video on on them and the guy stood 2 tablets in the little slots in the bottom and it burnt for a lot longer apparently, thinking of going for a crusader cup set myself, but maybe a hexistove would be a good lightweight option, id imagine you can still use sticks and things in it too.
    You’ve got me planning where to go for my first solo camp now haha, there is a place near by which you pay for but is as close as you can get to wild camping that I’m toying with the idea of popping to

    • @AntSurviveTheNight
      @AntSurviveTheNight  5 років тому

      RIcky Out And About thanks for watching Ricky. Yeah it’s a Chucky tent for sure lol. With regards to the stove I’d say it’s very hand and light, maybe not my first choice but I enjoyed using it. If your going for the crusader setup go for the stainless steel cup. I bought the black one and it bubbles and started to flake.
      If you can find somewhere local to you that you don’t have to pay for then I’d say you would have a better experience. I like the idea of it being free. You’ve paid for your kit mate don’t pay for your camping when you don’t need to bud 👍

    Hi mate, great to see you out again. I am so relieved that you are aware of the zip weakness but a light weight DPM 3X3 tarp would be a good solution and I feel the Dutch tent is a great protection from wind and cold and a great kit if you utilize it well, think I'll try one, really looking forward to your rain test and wishing you all the best. Nice vid, thanks mate. But I won't be rushing out to buy one of those tents. I wd say that most of my camping experiences have been in the shoulder seasons & winter, so I need a top quality tent. IMV there is NOTHING to beat a proper double-skinned tent with an all round flysheet (also, with an all round flysheet, you can cook in the porch in foul weather). But the forces need a tent that is tough, simple, quick & easy to erect (and I do like the camo pattern). I see that driving rain will easily penetrate the point where the three zips meet, if not the rest of the fabric. What's the weight of the DAT? I had an old Mk1 Vango, only lasted 37 years, replaced it with a Vango U/L Xenon - amazing, 1.8kg with additional groundsheet. (And then there's all those American vids about using TARPS - eyes roll!) Thanks anyway.

      Theo N de Bray Hello Theo, yeah I certainly wouldn’t take it out in a rain storm without sorting the areas where it is prone for leaking. I’m actually on the look out for a 3-4 man tipi for the winter months but this is just a bit of fun for me on those dry days that I want to do a local woodland wild camp.
      You’re looking at 7kg for the full weight of the shelter, I would say it’s the plastic bath tub that weighs it down. It could be a mod project to sort out a lighter bottom to it. Thank you for watching the video and thank you for your comment my friend 👍. Cheers, Ant.

    • @Mat-kr1nf
      @Mat-kr1nf 4 роки тому

      Theo N de Bray I saw another video with the reviewer slating this tent, but an ex Dutch army guy said that they were meant to be set up with, I think it was the long slope (if not, it was the shorter slope) facing the oncoming wind and weather, so the zips wouldn’t get the driving rain hitting them.
