This “show” disrespected such a classic, innocent family-friendly show so much. Velma is a sweet, meek, intelligent character. In this version she’s a trashy and unlikable drama queen!

@@JD_tcb There’s a slightly difference between a character that was meant to be disliked and a character that is not liked because they’re just bad.
Take examples like Hannibal (Hannibal), Mr. Hyde (Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde), Shou Tucker (Fullmetal Alchemist), Griffith (Berserk), Hal (Megamind).
Those are some of the most despicable characters from various types of media, they are all kinds of horrible, liars, hypocrites, murderers, rapists, etc.
We hate them, yes, but damn are they GREAT characters, because they were meant to be hated. The people who wrote them specifically wanted to create a feeling of loathing or disgust with these guys - and they did it!
Now Velma is just plain bad, she was made to be the story's misunderstood, strong heroine but she just came off as rude and unlikable. Being a hated character and being hated AS a character are two very distinct things.
@@JD_tcb You can make characters that are terrible people and still give them charm. Cotton Hill is a misogynistic abusive coot and is one of the most entertaining characters on King of the Hill. That's kind of the draw with shows like Seinfeld and It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia where the main cast are just complete degenerates but are entertaining enough to keep around. However, if Velma wants to do that type of thing the most important part is to not let those protagonists "win." Seinfeld ends with the main cast returning back to their life of drudgery as does the cast in Sunny. Velma instead is rewarded for being a total bitch and it defeats the purpose of using that specific formula. Plus the formula for a character driven show is dead in the water because Velma's attitude in the show is always justified so development will forever be stunted.

In Scooby-Doo everyone contributed to solving the mystery Fred had leadership Daphne had bravery Velma had brains and scooby hand shaggy had speed and awareness of danger this is like one of those fanfictions where the writer elevates their favorite character to Mary Sue level completely disregarding the importan role they played in the original group
You know, I try to remain positive, even in the face of atrocities. "Velma" has helped me understand how iconic and warm the original Scooby-Doo was.
I certainly bet the 'Daria' (B&B spin-off) show is a much better take on a snarky intellectual female character, and way more watchable.

This show is so confusing because it hates everyone. It hates people who like scooby doo, so it tries to “fix the characters” by making them “more realistic”. It hates white people and will take every opportunity to rub that in. It hates women? The first episode claims this is a feminist empowerment origin story and then Velma spends the next few episodes degrading the other female characters and making fun of the #MeToo movement. I genuinely don’t know who this show is for.
