    So, zombie infection in a basic summary to how it plays if you're still confused.
    There's one team of survivors and at the start of the setup phase of a round everyone is on that same team, once the round starts a random number of players are automatically infected and moved to the zombie team which can lead to a lot of chaos if there's a large group around for the newly infected players to spread their infection, the survivor team has to holdout until the timer expires to win while the zombies have to infect everyone to win.
    It's a gamemode that's been rather popular since the days of old school Counter Strike 1.6 and has only been growing in popularity to be carried over into future builds of Counter Strike but also brought over to other games like TF2, or in the case of Zombie Panic and Zombie Panic Source had entire games built around not only the zombie infection gamemode but also its brother gamemode zombie escape.
    Edit: as for the Engineer issue, I'm almost certain that the community had a better idea on how to balance the gamemode compared to Valve, such as only allowing the sentry to be restricted to level one as an example.

    The cosmetics are ass, the maps are ass (and barely functional), now leave me alone to grind contracts that totally don't make me want to end my existence.
