I love how Eric Johnson is one of the goats of the guitar world, with one of the most unique tones out there... And yet his posture while playing is the same as someone who's picking up a guitar for the first time lol. Gotta love the man!
Mike Bloomfield had a posture kind of bent-over like that too, although he was a natural lefty like many other great "righty" guitar players (Duane Allman, Mark Knopfler, and so many others). Bloomfield was even more exaggerated than EJ, and wore the guitar really high so he face was right on the fretboard. Guitars players play in many different ways, whatever works!
@@pharmerdavid1432 Oh yeah, I've never seen him before, but his posture is really hunched over! If it works, it works, but damn does it look uncomfortable to me, my neck hurts just from seeing him lol

Eric is the last living (legend)of my top 4 inspirations to pickup the instrument myself. There are no flaws musically or apparently from his soul, he's a saint (I hope to see in Heavan!). God bless EJ, keep rocking brother!!
One of my favorite players. Seen him in concert and Eric and the band crushed it. Music is awesome, but when played properly it moves your soul. Thanks Eric for a memorable night.
The way the bass player and other guitar were looking at him and what he was playing at the start and at the end gave the vibe that it was just an unplanned no introduction improve E.J. went into that they followed along. Gotta love the outside stuff on the blues.
No soul at all with no feeling and his one of my favorite guitar players that's not his style sorry to say to play the blues you have to live the blues
@@fender.munoz7 well who tf are you to tell other people whether or not they feel a piece of music or not? Good for you if you don't. It is subjective.
I've never heard Eric Johnson on anything but a Strat. The SG not only changes his tone but his style. That's validation of why you need more than one guitar...Ima gonna go tell my wife now, see ya...
So glad to see him play an SG. I wish he would ditch the strat . I know he can't, that's his signature sound, but a different guitar makes you play a bit differently, and I like more than one tone.
I'm glad to see him switching it up, even as a bass player I can tell you gibsons make you play them differently than other brands if you really want to unlock their mojo
he may be one of the goats in the guitar world, but this was more shreddy with a few blues elements thrown in. Him, like the late and great Jeff Beck are two of the best ever, but I just don't care for the music they make. Huge and deep respect for the talent though, it's off the charts and undeniable.
Sweet! - & Roscoe Beck playing bass too... I'll listen to Eric Johnson playing blues any day - he's got something to say & something to play, unlike the miserable wankers complaining about this gig. Just listen & live a little...
Johnson is a phenomenal Guitarist for sure. His unique original style is noteworthy. His composition of Cliff’s of Dover’ is a Hallmark. But-- For pure Killer Blues Feeling and Soul. Johnson lacks in that realm. Johnson has more jazz infused approach similar to Robben Ford. In my Book. Eric Gales’ is the greatest Blues guitarist alive today. Gales interpretation and feel is un-matched.
I started seeing EJ when I was a kid in high school in Houston in the early 80's - a couple of years before Tones came out - and that EJ was completely unearthly. His technique was absolutely jaw-droppingly astounding, but what was really overwhelming was the beauty of his intonation and his tone. Maybe the best guitar tones I have ever heard. One of the all time greats, to say the least. But this 2023 EJ is a far cry from that, and it is kind of shocking how downright awful he is now. What's more shocking are all the comments about how great he is still doing. You guys are kidding yourselves. Seriously. He has sounded terrible for at least 10 years.
Then by all means go listen to Clapton, Vaughan, Sheppard and their ilk. Nothing against the typical, cliched blues riffs but Johnson is exploring much more harmonically complex ideas here. Like Robben Ford, Larry Carlton and others, not for everyone. But "Terrible"....says more about you than Johnson.
Saw Treasure Tour in Albuquerque, best show I've ever seen! Nobody does it like EJ!!!
His tone is just off the charts good. Has the same kind of clarity as Robben Ford.
