I met Eric before his gig in Minneapolis back in 92. He was the most humble and genuine souls I have met outside of Arvo Pärt. Both are national treasures.
@@damionbeanstormchasing9892 Agree, I get it age catches up with you, missed nnites and timing. I'll add I never finished this song and could only get through on my best day 70% of it... For guitarist this was one of those bench mark songs...
EJ is Master Class ... still Rockin ! Drummer is a bit out in front on this one live ... bassist keeps trying to grab his attention and reel him back in which is so awesome live reality.
@@frankconway9184 You can keep sayin' it and keep being wrong. Do you know who that drummer is? I will take Keith Carlock's interpretation of the time over just about anyone's. Sound more like the fossils need to keep up to me
You’re actually incorrect. Eric was slightly in front of the beat since they all came in together. Mr. Keith Carlock was actually keeping a steady pocket. Eric was just probably a little amped up. Adrenaline can make you play stuff faster sometimes.
I really have to deepdive into my tone cause ive got 4 MXR Fet Drivers, and still not satisfied( Im keeping them, I just know theyre the best pedals....
When you play on Eric's level there comes a time when you have performed your music so many times and improvised the solo's so many times that you can't top yourself no matter what you do and the intensity get's lost. I don't know if age causes it or just getting burnt out? If you go back to the old Austin City Limits performances on UA-cam for Cliff of Dover and Manhattan he was fresher and more focused than today. We all wear down eventually no matter what.
Well, for one, age really fucks you over. Two, He's played this so many times he's probably sick of it. I doubt he even practices outside of one or two run throughs before the tour. If you watch the Austin City Limits video you mentioned, you will see him completely botch a section and get mad. He shakes his head with displeasure. That leads me to #3, there is no perfect performance. If you can do it better, prove it.

Much love and respect and admiration to Mr. Eric Johnson!
Very quiet and reserved guy. Very nice gentleman. I always enjoy his talent. I am glad he is still doing what he does best.
Very jazzy progressions with those augmented expressions. love it.
Absolutely flawless. I bought this album on cassette, 20+ years ago, and this sounds the EXACT same. Absolutely amazing.
Not even close to flawless! Let’s start with the tempo, way to fast and that alone caused him to miss a lot!

Agreed he is to fast.
Sounds like coked up Aerosmith in the late 70s. 😮. Missing the groove. Needs a click track. Just saying.

One of the few guys who was able to open for RUSH successfully!
Primus. Did too.
Blue Oyster Cult and The Steve Morse Band were pretty good as well.
His tone!!!!!!
That drum kit sounds fantastic
How can you tell? The audio is terrible. This was not tight. Young EJ was so much sharper.
que hermosura por dios
Love the shoegaze intro. Classic song.
Is that Roscoe Beck on bass?
That rig.
The fun starts at 3:25, then kicks in at 5:40.
drummer and bass player: "5:47??? are you kidding me??"
the mighty Dover Drive ( vs my Fet Driver), drive me a river....

That drummer kept pushing the tempo. At this level he should know better than that.
EJ ❤🤘❤
