Wish I had known that before going by the manufacturer's basic instructions of "Add Salt and regenerate". There was only about an inch of salt left, and the brine tank (?), Or whenever that little cylinder is called, was looking pretty empty. I'll definitely wait a while before regenerating the secondary tank, and just hope for the best...
Thanks man! I hope this is my current problem- new house, my WS says it stopped producing 6 months ago. I just cleaned the brine tank and refilled this AM. I did the regen immediately and have been searching online cause its still showing a 0 flow rate
Good to know, I didn't run out of salt but it was real close where I could see the bottom. Going to let it soak and do a manual regeneration in the morning
My softener keeps the salt tank dry and fills with the correct dose 4 hours before the rest of the regeneration process. So it is fine to manually initiate regeneration, the wait is baked in.
Thanks for the video! I was looking for some more information. Do you know the reason for beeping sound from the water softner? Is it because of low salt levels? Is there any way to reset it once it refills? Thanks in advance
I have an issue with the cold water smelling. Found out the plumber connected the backwash drain to the 4" sanitary line at the top of the pipe. I also am using crystals, was told to go back to pellets. There cleaner. The Rheem rep said you may have gotten a couple of crappy bags of salt. So l am letting it run down low enough so l can take out the remaining salt and clean out the salt tank because it's dirty. I may wipe the sides down with some diluted bleach. I also have to move that connection to a P trap set up with an air gap. When l add the new salt should l add some water to the bottom of the tank because it's going to be dry after l clean it. Also when the salt is low the light flashes. Will this keep the water softener from doing a regeneration rinse??? This is a Rheem RHS32 unit.
Thanks for the tip about waiting to regenerate. My problem is I have a lot of black flaky particles toward the bottom of my softener's salt tank. I stopped adding salt for a few weeks so I could see more of the bottom and there's a lot. Will something like Iron Out help me wash those away, or should I just add more salt and that will make them go away over time?
Hello, I ran out of salt and also water. I'm a new home owner so I went out and bought salt and refilled but realized there is no water. Will the water regenerate once I hit that button in about 6 hours? Or do I need to manually put water in..?
I just found out that we have one of those in the cross base and its been a little over 5 months since we bought the house. Thank you so much for this
Lol same here. 😂😂😂
Soo any damage, what happened?

Is it normal to see the water is a bit brownish? I don’t know if it’s the container making it look that colour or what.

If it runs out of salt and there’s water towards the bottom of the tank should I remove the water? Is it bad?

Our water softener stopped softening maybe 6-7mos ago. Should i be fine to just go ahead and add salt then regen after the 6hrs?

Thank you.
Do you add water to the tank first and how much before adding the salt?
I would add water after adding salt. 80 lbs salt. 5 gallons of water.
