Hi David just a heads up on a minor gotcha for anyone installing this in the UK. The CML vm uses a US keyboard so the passwords you set will be different to the symbols on the keyboard if you are using a UK keyboard on the hosting system. I found I could login in via the Sysadmin account on the VM but couldn't login in via the admin account on the Browser on my host machine despite using the same password for both because despite using the same physical keys the host machine and vm where sending / seeing different characters. It took me a little while to suss what was going on. I almost reinstalled the vm because I though I initially though I had made a typo when setting up the admin password the confusion was caused by the " and @ keys.
I was watching Keith Barker's video on cml external connectivity and regarding cml installation he asks the viewers to refer to David's video, and he adds David is meticulous and thorough. So true.

I had some issues installing cml but after watching your video it was like a miracle! There's even a large delay from the time I enter a command to the time it shows up on the screen.
Have you got nested virtualization enabled in the BIOS of your computer? A lot of the Cisco devices boot slowly. You may need to wait until they settle down a bit. My video is quicker than in real time :) Did you allocate enough CPUs? Do you have a modern device with recent CPUs?

November 2021 and still relevant, thanks for the video David. Quick question, I enabled debug on the routers on my lab and I don't see any messages coming up, do you know if CML does not support this? or I am missing a command to activate it ? I found it ! My routers had the (no logging console) command applied in global configuration mode, once I disable it I was able to see debug messages on the console to verify hello packets in OSPF. I'm just leaving this comment here in case someone else run into the same issue later.

@@Soundwave-F7Z Depends on hardware. CML supports up to 20 Cisco devices or imported devices. So, you could run 20 Cisco devices and 10 of the built in Linux PCs. I can see the Images in lab manager and can make and start connections on the work bench
...eg if i start IOSvL2 it starts up eventually i can login and use sh cmds etc
If I try this with other images eg CSR or IOSv or ASAv .... it just hangs... no response or details on console
Any ideas from your experiences
Thank you! Please ask for help in the CML Cisco community here: learningnetwork.cisco.com/s/topic/0TO3i00000094ZjGAI/cisco-modeling-labs-personal-community
Sorted. CPU settings were incorrect
Brilliant
When I log in to UI, it throws an error that "System not Ready", tried every option from reboot to redeploy... Any fixes ?. How do we raise a case for this with Cisco
Register and ask here: eurl.io/#bWHTbWz1Z - just remember that Cisco don't provide commercial support for this product. It is community support. So, don't expect help like on a commercial product.
Great video, David! But can I install CML on more then one computer? As example one on my home PC and one at my work laptop to practice more
Thank you. No as far as I understand. It is a single use license.
@@davidbombal Thx! So, GNS3 is the way. I've purchased it at the 3rd of September and I have both: CML and old IOSv for my GNS3.
Awsome !
Hi the lab is running , does anyone know the username and passwords for the Desktop node?, also the ubuntu is unable to start ,Failed to start node ubuntu-0: Unable to define node (Unable to clone image) anyone any idea to fix this?
I have a question, can you automate networks with this virtualizer?
for example can i create phyton scipts and run them on this virtulizer?
Sure you can. You could add an Ubuntu host to your topologies and then automate the Cisco devices in your virtual network.
November 2021 and still relevant, thanks for the video David. Quick question, I enabled debug on the routers on my lab and I don't see any messages coming up, do you know if CML does not support this? or I am missing a command to activate it ? (I'm trying to see the hello packages when enable OSPF on both routers)
I found it ! My routers had the (no logging console) command applied in global configuration mode, once I disable it I was able to see debug messages on the console to verify hello packets in OSPF. I'm just leaving this comment here in case someone else run into the same issue later.
is it enough for CCIE Lab practice?
@David, will there be any advantage of using CML over eve-ng when it comes to how big of a laptop (Ram/Processor etc.) we need?
Does CML 2.0 support other vendor's KVM based images like Junos, FortiOS, PAN-OS?
Should do. But, I haven't tested. I have tested with a Windows VM which works fine. Please let me know if you get those working.
@@davidbombal Just tested FortiOS 6.4.0 KVM image, it worked fine. I assume it will work with any vendor's KVM images.
David, any idea how I can license my CML 2.0 without having an Enterprise smart license account? I am using the personal edition and don't want to use my company to license my VIRL 1.5 upgrade. Whenever I paste my license key it shows the check that it is valid but it fails. Thanks in advance if you know the answer!
I just purchased it using my credit card. You could register a new e-mail I suppose and pay for it using this link: bit.ly/ciscocml
@@davidbombal I purchased it back in January. Any idea how I can activate if the copy paste method fails? I have read it requires a smart license account which you need a business for. Thanks! Love your videos.
David, I got the IP address but unfortunately I couldn't go further ! The IP address won't work for me ! Any advice? Hope to hear from you at your earliest convenience
I have the same issue, actually. It gives an error connection timeout. I tried two different browsers. I double checked the IP address, etc. Still not working.
Hi David, I've got my CML up and running and would really like to do some exercises. Do you know of some good material where I get a walkthrough of building topologies explaining each step? Thank you
Thank you David. I was trying the devnet sandbox CML but had issues connecting to the devices using netmiko. It would be great if you did a demo on how to do that. Thank you!
I think you may struggle to use their Sandbox for some labs like using Python / Netmiko. I'll see what I can do.
@@davidbombal I see. Thank you so much!
Hi Kevin, could you please tell approx. how much RAM and CPU would be required to run 20 CML-P nodes? I am asking with reference to only IOSV and IOSVL-2 nodes so in total 20 of them running simultaneously. It will help me in deciding the specs I need to look for when buying a Laptop. Thanks!
Great Video on CML 2.0 David. I have installed it but have an cml insufficient licenses error coming up and don't know what to do . My product is installed on a mac using fusion .....
Where is autonetkit in CML 2.0 ?
I'm having fun with it now... thanks to you! By the way, I like the tractor... but also like the elephant. Your friend, Paul
Thanks Paul! Should I bring the elephant back?
How its not on the site?
@@kevinhughes9801 I had comments about the tusk coming out of my ear... so I swapped it for the tractor. I still have it with me.
How many nodes are you able to run on your machine?
@@Soundwave-F7Z Depends on hardware. CML supports up to 20 Cisco devices or imported devices. So, you could run 20 Cisco devices and 10 of the built in Linux PCs. But, this is dependant on hardware - you would need a lot more RAM and CPU than I have in my Windows laptop. I am just demonstrating using the Windows laptop - I typically use my Mac.
Great content like always The Professor BOMBAL ... As I can see we have more one/another solution to emulate Cisco environments ... GNS3, EVE, VIRL and CML? 4, is that right?
Thank You Again ... Always following you Professor ... ALWAYS WISHING YOU ALL THE VERY BEST!
Thank you Wagner! I appreciate the continued support. VIRL is replaced with CML (basically this is VIRL 2). So, three major platforms: CML, GNS3, EVE-NG.
@@davidbombal ... Thank You The Professor ...
Thanks!
All went OK except that I am with Mac OSX Mojave( 10.14.6) and got VirtualBox too.
VMWare Fusion and VirtualBox cannot work together at the same time. The issue is with: vmmon driver.
One needs to restart Mac OSX and DO NOT Start VirtualBox, to be able to access the driver. Just start
only VMWare. And all should work as explained.
Hope this can help!
Wonderful product, indeed.
Thank you for sharing Michaël!
David thanks again. Do I need CML for the new CCNP or will boson netsim 13 work. I have VMware workstation pro 15.5 is that approved for CML.
