    SDS Imports, the same folks who brought in the Lynx 12ga shotgun from China, is now importing a WWII era clone of the famous 1911A1 45 ACP pistol. SDS is having them made by Tisas of Turkey. The SDS 1911 A1 seems to be one of the better low cost 1911 pistols on the market. I compare the SDS 1911 A1 to an actual Colt made 1911A1 from WWII.

      Seriously! At least give it a good month of being back in stock on the website before having a well known reviewer upload a video on it. But that's sales, guys. They don't care about giving everyone a fair chance to buy one. That's why they don't have buying limits. My local gun shop bought a big batch of Star BM 9mm's from Classic last year so I would imagine alot of other dealers did the same. And then they were selling them for $65 more than Classic was.

    As far as reliability is concerned, I'm going with Ken Hackathorn's statement on the lower ejection port (see his review of the Govt Classic). If reliability was a problem they would have lowered it before the A1 came out. It was lowered in the Govt models to allow the spent casing to eject without denting it. Reloaders had less work to do then.

      That's why the military started trials for new sidearms, they were faced with having to have new parts made because spares parts were pretty much exhausted at that point and it was either spend the money on new parts and initiating a massive rebuild program or updating to a more modern design.

      About the 1911s... yea the original intention with the interchangeability of parts was so they could put all the parts of the 1911s into a bucket and wash them, then replace them not worrying about matching them up. Odd that the very thing they wanted with the interchangeability was the same thing that nailed it's own coffin.
      I'm kinda in the opinion of since those pistols were with the USMC during their defining moments of their force (Pacific campaign) it should be the official pistol of the Corps, even if they don't use it anymore. Excellent review as always. Your review made me go out and purchase one on these to test and I am extremely impressed with just about everything.
    I put about 300rds through it today and then tore it down completely and examined all the parts with the numerous original GI parts that I have.
    Every GI part fit perfectly in this SDS import. I agree with you about the Philippine 1911's. I refuse to work on them anymore. I just got tired of the hit and miss quality control and having to hand fit a great deal of the parts. This is much truer to form than both the Rock Island GI series and the Springfield GI series and at a savings of between $80 to $150.
    I have been shooting 1911's for over 50 years and gunsmithing them for almost that long.
    Your Colt 1911A1 did have the wide hammer spur up until about 1943 when Colt went with the narrow one.
    I have never gotten hammer bite with any GI 1911 and I did not get it with this one either after over 300 rds. I do have small hands and that is the reason.
    The magazine that came with my Tisas was a Mec-gar and was so marked and I found it to be excellent with no flex at all.
    I feel that this 1911 A1 is by far the best value for the money with extremely good machine work and attention to detail.
    Time and more rounds through it will tell me how it will hold up, but the quality of the steel seems just fine.

    Mine came with a Mec Gar magazine, so I just bought two more. All three are identical, and are as nice as the two shipped with my Springfield Armory 1911.
    Never noticed any flexing in the mags.
    Also, I had a set of old walnut GI stocks that I put on mine. It makes it look a little more authentic.
    I really appreciate companies that provide these wonderful guns at a price many of us can afford.

      Exactly most people say that no one got to buy their service rifle and so on and thats it bought of the surplus market later and its not the specific one. But there where programs that let servicemen just outright buy their equipment. Much easier than to catalog everything if the soldier could just pay up for most of the stuff.

It was really just an extra retirement perk.

Apart from the CMP and some rare accounts of officers being allowed to keep their pistols and theft it's all bullshit. Another difference is that with theTisas you can readily fire hollow points, whereas with the WW2 1911A1s odds are, you can't. My Remington Rand mfg'd in 1944 takes some hollow points, but most can't. Don't ask me why. When it comes to .45s, I'll take the Tisas over any other reproduction gun out there in the same chambering. Your Colt and my Rem.Rand are collectibles, so we won't be firing them much, but the Tisas is exactly what I've wanted for my carry gun. With my Baby Browning as my back-up, I think I'm covered. It's nice to know that the Tisas 1911A1 has the Colt series 70 innerds, which I'm told by those who know, that it is the best .45 that Colt ever made. To my way of thinking, aside from the parkerized coating being somewhat thin, I made the very best gun-buy of my life when I bought my Tisas.

    I picked one of these up about a week ago. The GI model. I have a grand total of nine 1911s now. And I got to say SDS Imports has done one hell of a good job with the craftsmanship and cloning it properly. Mine is the strange battleship gray color. Parkerized but I've never seen one in this color before. Battleship Gray is the best way I can describe it. I don't know what the technical name for the color would be.

    The The goal at my house, where I target shoot in the backyard, is to have so many shell casings on the ground that I could walk to the target without actually touching the dirt because of all the shell casings. it looks like you’re almost there. Ha ha!

    I got that "It's not a slide release" lecture just a few days ago from some guy on a forum. Yea...yea...whatever. Good review. I've got two of the Tisas 1911's, a 1911A1 (45), and a Tanker (9MM). Really nice guns.

    I am not an expert on 1911A1s, nor do I pretend to be. But I do think the hammer on the TISAS is actually technically correct as they had a few different variations of hammers on wartime guns. Its very close from what I can tell in the video to my Remington original. So swings and roundabouts

      My safety is loosely fitted too.plenty of "clearance" in the slide to frame fit too. I'm putting a wilson spring kit in it today.i put them in all my 1911s.i like the gun.after the springs and some rubber grips it will be a great truck gun.my best fitted 1911s are my 2 American classics.

    The hammer on the Tisas is exactly like the original 1991. Not the 1911A1. Otherwise this is a really close copy. Browning invented the slide on auto pistols! So almost every single auto pistol ypu see today except a clone Luger and the Ruger No. 1 and 2s will have a slide on it. I am sure there are other pistols that have a different system but most have a slide.

    dont get me wrong, the originals all the way through WWII have good history, but i genuinely think that most modern firearms are just better overall.... plus, i want more than just 7rds per full mag.

    I have one of the SDS Tisas 1911 Duty with upgraded performance features . Is suppose to have a more comp trigger system and hammer and mainspring I guess. Mine is the black one and I put some pearl grips on it. Its a really nice gun. They are making some really nice guns in Turkey. Of course with the pandemic everyone is buying these up so the price has went up a touch but they are great guns. Now I would say if you can afford it id get a US product like a Springfield or Colt but if your on a budget or like me just wanted to see if you will like a 1911 something like this is a great value to learn on :). Oh and get the .45 . I'm a woman and do not let people scare you thinking these guns have tons of recoil because they shoot very smooth and very easy . Everyone that likes guns should really own a 1911 just to experience the history :).

      Alexander Guzman word to the wise though I’ve seen actual colts slide notches round with excessive use not just the poorer quality slides. When that happens say bye to last round hold open.

    • @Cpt-Night-ajg
      @Cpt-Night-ajg 4 роки тому +1

      @@dustyak79 I'm not exactly sure what you even mean. If you mean that the notches on the slide release lever itself will wear out on old colts, well I have two response for that. One I don't buy colt 1911's everything I have seen except the m45 in recent years have been fit like hot garbage. Two, the slide release lever is about $35 for a new. If I shot my gun so much that I wore out the slide stop so badly that I lost the last round hold open, I could likely afford to buy a new slide release and get it up and running no issue. For most guns that is a non issue.

    • @dustyak79
      @dustyak79 4 роки тому

      Alexander Guzman not the release leaver itself. But the notch in the slide so you would have to replace the whole slide itself not a big deal on modern quality steel but older or cheaper guns.

    • @Cpt-Night-ajg
      @Cpt-Night-ajg 4 роки тому

      @@dustyak79 that sounds like it would only be an issue on the most early production 1911's made of the softest metal. Just looking at my own 1911 and how the slide stop is operated I cannot see how this would ever be a serious issue even if thay corner of the slide where to somehow be rounded enough that it would no longer catch, the slide has enough travel past that point thay any reasonable gun Smith should be able to mill a square notch back into the slide at that spot and restore the spot. Again this sounds like something that would never happen o many modern gun and would still only be an issue on very high round count 1911's. This is not a reason to avoid using the slide release as intended.
