Lebron didn't take the max of 104, he took a paycut that would still keep them under the 2nd apron and make moves. The lakers didn't make any moves because teams were asking for more from them compared to other teams.
1. even if LeBron signs a vet min, Lakers are still over the cap. 2. you didn't even touch the primary reason why Pelinka can't make a trade, even a sign and trade -> its the ROSTER SPOTS. ran out of spots coz of the players who picked up their player options (Jaxson Hayes, Christian Wood, Cam Reddish). Pelinka handed out these vet min POs like candy last offseason, and pays the price this offseason. they lost on Tyus Jones and Gary Trent Jr. even though those guys took a vet min, coz LAL have no roster spots also the roster spots occupied by the developmental/project players (Bronny James, Jalen Hood-Schifino, Max Lewis). they havent shown much to be considered coveted trade assets by other teams 3. why would Lakers think about Zach Lavine when the Warriors let CP3 walk instead of trading Lavine for him.
1. Signing the vet min actually would have put the Lakers around $144M, over the cap, but significantly more flexibility by being able to use all of their exceptions to sign players and more opportunities for trades since they wouldn't be bound by the apron trade rules. 2. Roster spots don't matter in trades, you have to exchange players 1 for 1 when an apron team, that would have no impact on spots available. 3. They think about Zach Lavine for all of the reasons I explained in the video
Idk how many Laker games you truly saw but not having a point of attack defender in Vando/Gabe due to injuries hurt them greatly as well as Ham keeping Christie on a tight leash anytime he made a simple mistake. Prince/Reddish were asked to do too much for their roles, they should’ve been energizers off the bench and if one of them was hot they should close out. Ham also didn’t insert Rui as a starter until he was outplaying Prince damn near every game, Rui also missed games in the first half of the season which didn’t allow him to build a rhythm. He also kept a tight leash on Hayes/Woods when it was obvious that rebounding was an issue for us (while also missing Vando) And after taking all of that into consideration, he still refused to call time outs when necessary, never adjusted mid game to other teams coming back, never fouled when up 3 with closing seconds to make the game a free throw possession by possession match up Basketball is about continuity and with all the changes Bron/AD have seen on this team, they need it. Nuggets/Celtics showed that the last two year. JJ is also coming in with a very experienced staff, he’s not an idiot like the implication of him being a rookie is trying to insinuate. He can see where Ham messed up on and try to do the opposite so the team stays united and consistent, injuries cannot be controlled.
My theory is that the amount saved from LeBron lines up pretty evenly with what they are paying Bronny above what a normal 55th pick would receive. Lebron's deal is $2.7M below the cap over 2 years. Bronny's deal is $3.1M over those two years where a normal 2nd round pick would be on a two-way contract that would pay $600k over those could years. The net difference is $200k between LeBron's savings and Bronny's overpayment .
It makes sense in theory and as a Raptors fan, I don't hate the idea of getting Russell's expiring contract and a few draft assets for Jacob. Their bigger problem is that you don't have any real assets to work with if Jacob Poeltl is your best, realistic trade .
LeBron is the Goat but he isn’t winning any more rings. That isn’t a knock on his game. We are past the days of teams going back to back to back and winning 2, 3, 4 chips with the same or similar roster multiple years in a row. Just look at Jokic who got bounced by a relatively young team and one break-out star only a year after winning his ring. There at least 10 different teams with genuine shots to win it all at this point and a couple more fringe championship teams. The league is more competitive than it has ever been. Maybe if they had gotten a big so AD can play the 4 and picked up some shooters they would have a shot but they didn’t. I don’t even blame Bron for taking his contract. Zach Lavine or Lauri or DeMar were not pushing this team over the edge.
Its extremly difficult for Lakers to get players because there's "LeBron Tax" that exists since he entered the league. GMs actively try to avoid making fair trades with Lakers. Jerami Grant was traded to the Portland Trail Blazers for couple of youngsters and 2 second round picks but according to reports, Blazers are demanding TWO FIRST ROUNDERS from Lakers for his remaining 4 years and 150 million contract. Thats outrageous.
The Lakers don't want to trade the rest of their future away to appease a 40-year-old LeBron who will retire this or next year. The truth is LeBron can carry you for a round or 2 but he'll burn himself out. Lakers should have pulled the trigger on the Kyrie deal when the Nets were giving him away for nothing.
They mortgaged they franchise off for one season...gave up a decade for 82 games A year ago, they said the lakers had the best offseason, were the deepest team in the league, and was going to win it all And now it's back to square one
As a top star in the league you cant opt out and take a vet minimum to help the team, the player association wouldnt allow it because it hurts other stars. The front office is to blame, other teams are by the apron and are winning
LeBron's skills have to decline at some stage. I know that he's unique specimen but no one can fool father time forever. They need someone who will step up on the court and take over. I guess LAL are aiming at Trae before the deadline, hoping his value drops significantly
Lakers should not trade for anyone right now. Just hold firm and wait for a while. If Warriors and Suns somehow fail in first of the season and Lakers do decent, then Steph and KD will be in trade market by February.
Why would LeBron, after seeing the Lakers do absolutely nothing with the flexibility he offered them, take even less? If Lebron takes a steeper pay cut and the Lakers still don’t make any moves, because of how late into the offseason it was, what’s to stop the Pelinkas from saying “Oh well, we tried” and putting those saving in their pocket?
The nba would investigate lebron taking a vet min or even like a 20 a year contract, he’s the biggest name in basketball they can’t have him taking a vet min it’ll look bad.
The team needs to have a 3 to 5 year rebuild. The problem is LeBron not willing to do that. But the way the NBA is and the style of play needed. This is needed. After all of that this franchise is done after LeBron is done for the next 5-7 years ....
I’m rooting for LA to win this year not because I believe in them just because I think it would be funny after all of the questionable off season moves LeGM has made.
In 21 seasons he has 4 with 6 losses., 15 seasons of it including his prime was spent on a weak conference while playing with two other all stars beside him... How does 1 more win get him closer to being the greatest? Honestly he's not even top 5, it's just his media pushing for that narrative which will die as soon as he's retired..

The only way the lakers could actually become a contender is if they traded dlo and rui for better fitting players dlo and rui have no defence
