  • US Military radio and TV did not run commercials like back "in the world". We ran ones to help the soldiers adapt and succeed in their new environment in Vietnam. "Give your M-16 a light lube" says the deejay in between popular songs. More about AFVN at www.afvnvets.net/
AFVN American Forces Vietnam Network provided music, news and sports to the American Fighting Man during the Vietnam war. Our motto was "From the Delta to the DMZ."

That weapon maintenance PSA could work for a rifle or STD prevention. No change in wording needed.

These are just great. I've written to SXM radio. About running some of these complete tapes of shows for Memorial Day. Since they used to run different types of music for different segments of the day. There should be enough for all the types of music country , pop , soul, etc. To say nothing about the USO radio shows from the bib band era. Thanks for all of these. Especially “It happened last night”. From AFPN.
Great memories ( Most of the time )

Damn... THANKS for posting this!! Its like a trip down memory lane... I was in-country from March 1970 to April 1971, at LZ Hawk Hill, 196th Inf Bde, 23rd Inf Div, formerly Americal Div. I watched/listened via the Danang transmitters, as we were halfway between Chu Lai and Danang...

There was one advisory broadcast on AFVN concerning if you take off your Jungle Boots, make certain you inspect the inside of them before putting them back on. Make sure there are no stinging or biting critters hiding inside.

This is awesome stuff, I wasn’t even thought , but I always had a curiosity of this time period. It’s really neat listening to what soldier would have been probably listening to. Thank you veterans for your service ❤️

Blueevoy_6000 you are welcome. And please know that if u s soldiers were listening to radio in Vietnam this was the only English language station... so they were listening to this.

Blueevoy_6000 I don’t know of any other public service Announcement postings on UA-cam but if you google AFVN some vets have vietnam style on line radio stations. Also old radio shows are often for sale on UA-cam

I was in country 7/21/67-6/29/68 and don't remember any of these PSA's. We heard about avoiding VD, inoculating a camp pet, certain R&R destinations, and some weapon cleaning plus others I can't recall.

I was alive when these broadcasts were made but was a teenager here in the states. I too find this absolutely fascinating ! Positive & helpful informative for the military personnel serving over there. Many thanks to Robert for uploading this for us to enjoy !!

I recall a woman named Sandy on pm TV. Her parting line was "Have a nice day, weather wise and otherwise" . In a sexy voice , which would drive us absolutely wild. 1968!

Top of the hour time stamp to the tune of the Overture from "Tommy" with the drug messages from the Underture. Catching Laugh-In and Gunsmoke on the same night was pretty awesome. Then Janie with the Stateside weather, yea buddy!

Wow , this sounds like the radio stations in the United States ca.the mid to late 1960s. Well there were teens serving in Vietnam and this format brought the sounds of home to them. It sounds like KRLA,1110 am and 93 KHJ, (Boss Angeles) These were popular radio stations in Los Angeles , Ca.

    • @martialmusic

Shawn Malone we consciously modeled AM radio in Vietnam after USA radio. Yes!

I realize that some of the anti-drug ads are about the 27 club but where's the one about Jim Morrison? Had he not died already at this time?

I don't know why but that station ID at the beginning always seems to creep me out with that music. Is that something taken off a record or is it a song that was produced exclusively for AFVN?

    • @martialmusic
      @martialmusic  Рік тому +1

I am not sure where that music came from. It was the network systems cue. Satellite stations would listen for it and then cut to the key main station for news on the hour.
