This made me think of my sweet feisty chicken Twinkle, I only had her for six years before a fox unfortunately killed her, but she was an amazing bird! Twinkle was best friends with my cat, I still have photos of the two of them cuddling. We had two kittens and a goat grow up with her and learned to respect her even when they became bigger than her, she’d ride around on the goat’s back, it was so cute.
She was a free bird, she’d sleep in trees or on the roof of our car, we could never keeps her in the pen we had, she’d always find a way to escape.
She also used to love riding on my shoulders and I’d take her into town with me on walks.
I miss her every day.
Sorry for your loss, but she lived a free and happy life 👍🏼
I grew up around chickens. They aren't the smartest bird but they're just as capable of love and affection as any other living thing. We had this tiny little rescue once. She was a black rock, small and cute, called Petit Poulet (Little Chicken in French I believe). She would let my stepmother pick her up and she would sit on her lap. Sweetest little thing

My little buddy a Brussels Griffon I named Yosemite Sam loves going to home depot with me. He gets a lot of attention from animal lovers, especially cuz he's so darn cute, very sweet and loveable. It certainly makes going for supplies a lot more enjoyable. Thank you Home Depot! I've been shopping there for over 20+ years & even buy our home appliances, power tools etc. there because of their great prices and customer service.
If your friends dont get how you can ❤ your bird so much, than you need new friends. 😂
Hello Nina, how're you doing today???
Cockatoos are just so beautiful. Just Imagine a bird waddling into a store, so cute.
Animals never betray you. Their love is pure, simple and unconditional.
have you met cats?
Then do right by them by fulfilling their needs. Like social contact. Parrots and similar social birds form strong pair bonds to another bird of the same species, and they need that bond. Keeping a bird like this alone is animal abuse. In my country it's even illegal by law for that reason. So if that guy doesn't have good reasons for keeping the bird alone (like aggression against other birds or health issues), he'd do something that's illegal and forbidden and immoral to my countries standards.

The fact that he can take him anywhere with absolutely no fear of him flying away or getting lost really shows how special and real this relationship is!
Exactly! Usually I'm not a huge fan of pet birds, because most of the time it implies cutting their feathers to prevent them from flying, and I feel like it's more like keeping a bird with you against its will than anything, bit that's obviously not the case here, Beau is able to fly away, but he loves his human friend so much!
@@alexisfights5773 If someone cuts away the flying feathers of birds like Cockatoos, they have no clue what kind of animal they have and should reconsider having a cockatoo. Cockatoos are like having a toddler that stays a toddler for 60-70 years. Most larger birds are very emotional beings and need to be treated with the same respect as a human. Cutting off the flying feathers is equivalent to chopping off a humans hands and putting them in a cage. Absolute cruelty and abuse
@@alexisfights5773 u don’t need to cut them when I take my parrots out I use a harness as I haven’t done recall training yet
@@Arterexius Exactly. I’m so tired of people treating animals like they are less intelligent/conscious than us. They are just as intelligent, if not more sometimes, and they are conscious in a different way. Totally in the moment, which means they pick up on a lot more. They deserve 100% respect and honor, and if you can’t give it to them please don’t involve them in your life.
Birds, like other animals, need to be active. In the wild, they fly all over the place. Putting a bird like that in a cage for its whole life is mental torture for them. I'm pleased to see this bird out & about. Seeing new things, interacting with his owner.
My neighbor passed away 2 year's ago none of his family wanted his African gray. So my wife brought him home until we found him a new home. But as soon as he met our dog, we knew he already found his new home. They do everything together.

Beau is cute, too!...
Large birds are one of the smartest pets you will ever own, and the express more affection than any other pet ever could
I never realized a bird who can still fly would not necissarily fly away if taken outdoors. I'm so glad you haven't clipped his wings.
What a very special bird ❤❤
Birds are easily trained to fly back to their owners. It’s wonderful to see them spread their wings, and live their best life ❤️
That's so nasty he just takes it around with him. Birds can't controll their bowels or bladder.
In Phoenix so many macaws and cockatoos have gotten loose they now have breeding flocks. Be careful.
For centuries humans used messenger pigeons to communicate over long distances. Despite their freedom to travel, birds have a strong sense of "home". If a bird feels that your home is also their home, they wouldn't just abandon it without a very good reason. The vast majority of the time, if a bird leaves its home it will come back in a short while.
Yeah I don't get how some people will clip a Bird's wings or declaw a cat.
I loved the fact that he didn't cage Beau. People cage birds because they think that if the birds are free then they will fly away and will never come back again. But the truth is that, if you love someone and if that creature loves you, then he/she will come back to you, no matter what. You don't need a cage, you just need to have a kind, compassionate and loving heart.
sounds very smart to me 🤍 💗 ♡
Friends of mine have a cage for the bird that the bird goes to when it want's to retreat. It's pretty much always open.
I'm glad most people I know with cockatoos only cage them for sleep , f
Though I prefer the friends that dont lock those cages. Once your bird likes ya enough it dont like going to bed just cuz you arent around. Is good to sleep where your bird can see you through the cage
If you love someone, or something, set it free. If it loves you, it will come back to you.
Chand... Flying away is a real concern as well as safety. If they fly away they will get lost and the chance of getting them coming back is slim asd they won't be able to identify your house from up above. As well they dont know how to survive in the wild and therefore exposed to predators and other elements that can be a threat to them.
My love bird has a cage and loves being in it. It's her space and safe haven. When I'm at work she's in her cage as otherwise she will chew cords and other things that are a risk to her. When I come home the cage door is opened and she comes out if she wants to. Being a responsible parent to your pets sometimes involves making decisions that others do not agree with. Don't judge but inform yourself on why things are the way they are.
Those that abuse their birds however, should be charged as that is not okay.
I walked into a rescue place that had a store attached to it that helped raise money for the rescue. They had dogs, cats and birds. Anyway, I went in to buy Christmas gifts for my dogs and they had several birds sitting out in the shop on stands. I’d never looked twice at birds before but I came face to face with a 9 month old umbrella cockatoo. We kind of looked at each other for a minute then I reached out to give him a scratch and he leaped onto my arm. We had another staring moment and then he buried his head under my chin and lay flat on my chest. I tried to put him on his perch but he wouldn’t go. The shop keeper said normally he didn’t let anyone near him. It was weird this instant connection we had. The next thing I knew I was walking out of the shop with a cockatoo, all the required accoutrements and several books on cockatoos, their personalities and the care they required. That was 27 years ago and we still adore each other. I never did pick up anything for my dogs that day either. I have also rescued several other cockatoos as well since then. They are amazing birds.

Love seeing videos of people with birds! It’s a lifelong commitment. A lot of people don’t understand how long these birds live for. If in a healthy environment they can live 60 years no problem. It’s a big commitment due not only to the length of time but the amount of social interaction that the birds require. In the wild the live in fairly large, communal gatherings. They have social interactions much the same as humans. My grandfather had African grey until time he died. He spent a lot of the last 2 years of his life finding a suitable home for Shakespeare… the parrot.

Omg omg omg!
I think my future husband will be a third wheel🥺
That’s usually how it goes, but it could be worse. My Amazon parrot used to go out of his way to attack my high school gf every chance he got.
Hopefully she just enjoys her privacy lol
the "i love this" on the cart just made my heart melt
When he said he was 15 my heart sunk then he said he had 50 or 60 more years and my heart sunk for the bird. Let them both live forever 😭
I don't know how old the guy is but they actually could end up living about as long as each other!
I thought the same thing. I actually asked a question about this just moments ago. It’s somewhere in the comments section.
This is why bird owners need to plan ahead about who will take care of the bird if something happens to the human first.
Remind me of an old saying:
"You can have different pets in your lifetime, but they only have you in their's"
English not my first language so sorry hope the sentence make sense 🥰
Damn that was cute
perfect sense.
Never thought of like that, and I’m old!!😂 lovely
The saying makes sense in English. Thank you for sharing. 💕
Oh my heart
He says that he can't explain to his friends how he has such an affection for the bird. I think it's because that it is allowing him to experience true unconditional love and to play carelessly and foolishly like a child, something that we lose as we grow up. He's enjoying being a 7 year old again. And we all should.
I recently saw cockatoos in the wild in Australia. I would love to have one; it’s always fun to me to see birds respond to humans, and in such cute , intelligent ways.
Always do your research before getting one !!!
“Parrot turd on isle 37. Zack, clean up on isle 37.”
Zack : I'm busy get Dennis to do it
Haha, it’s not a turd, believe me! I have an African Grey. 😂
@@nisar6339 definitely a parrot splat lmao
"Beau, save it for home, please. Beau, save it for home."
2:10 A 60-70+ year lifespan. If you adopted one when you were a child and you lived to be like 80, it would still be alive. Big commitment!!!
But well worth that commitment.
Yeah so don’t get one on a whim
@@HelenHumphries yesssssss
no
I wish dogs would have a human lifespan.
If you're going to have one of these incredibly intelligent birds, you have to give them this level of freedom and attention. Breaks my heart how many get stuck in cages and abused because they're miserable and noisy. God bless this man for doing it right!
Omg birb owners just feel affection on a diff level i needed to see this thank you:)
Dogs & Parrots are highly social animals like humans, you can develop very strong relationships with them.
That's not even touching on the fact they have roughly human intelligence from what I remember
So what are cats they get abused there's alot of strays and your gonna say dogs and parrots are more highly social animals?
And equally, chickens, pigs, alpacas... and even animals known to be not especially ‘social’ such as some lizards, can develop highly bonded attachments to their human companions.
We were not talking about cats, multiple animals have the intelligence to form bonds though
@@imnottalkingtoyouvalenugh5130 nice if you want attention or something then this isn’t the place have a wonderful day.
“How could you have such affection towards a bird??” How could you not? Seriously, this guy needs different friends.
Agreed, animals can bring such love, but before everyone runs out the door to get one, they need to commit to a lifetime, not just 15 years as with dogs.
Do you eat bread crust
Word
They just don't know much about birds . He could teach them.
I don't think he needs different friends. It's just very unusual to have a good relationship with birds, thus questions definitely are allowed.
I love this so glad hes a rescue and not trafficked. You gave him a real life and real love
Two happy beings who found each other. What could be better? and LOL--every person bonded to a bird knows who owns whom.
I remember when my bird died I cried like a baby and didn't go to work for 3 days. I loved him so much
I totally get it. When my 64 yr old red lored amazon died, I crawled into bed and cried for a week. He was my soulmate
My budgie stayed at my parents when I moved in with my now husband because he has a cat. Every time I go to my parents I still expect Bobby to be there in the kitchen greating me, even though it's a decade since he died. He was 14years old. I live about 300km away from my parents and we try to visit every 2 months. My Bobby died in my hands, he was ill before, this time he didn't recovered. He waited until I came home to say good bye. I had two days with him, where he almost was his old self.
@@alexpond648 😔😔😔
Stop I’m crying reading this and don’t even have a bird
Ahhhh bless
Yes, many years ago my friend's father passed away and my friend inherited his cockatoo, Rocky. His father got Rocky in 1958 and he is still going strong. These really are life long companions so please take this into consideration before making the commitment. Rocky was very lucky my friend loves him just as much as his father did, but unfortunately the sad truth is many are abandoned after their owners pass away.
I was thinking same thing. Thank you for mentioning this fact.
That's sad
@@eireannemerald1382 Yes absolutely right!! You have to remember in this case my friend grew up his entire life with Rocky. When his father passed away, this wasn't an adoption, it was an inheritance. They are essentially brothers and like it or not, know they are stuck with each other until the end.
Oldest Cockatoo on record was a Major Mitchel's (also known as a Leadbeater) Cockatoo named Cookie that lived at the Brooklyn Zoo to at least the age of 83 - that's how long he lived at the Zoo, it's possible he was even older.
Winston Churchill's old Blue and Gold Macaw is also alive and kicking at the ripe old (estimated) age of 114, and she's infamous for having picked up quite a few of Churchill's private rants during WWII.
I have an African grey that was orphaned when his previous owner died of cancer. He's kind of a failed rescue in that 2 attempted placements failed b/c he's unpredictably aggressive (bit thru my septum right after I got him) but we've been together 8 years now so we have things figured out. He's not a companion bird but he's part of the family anyway, just in his own way.
