I like how Michael McGlynn doesn’t just sit aside and compose songs for the group to sing; he sings WITH them, among them. And he sings with FEELING; his voice always soothing and pleasant to listen to. Shows how dedicated he is to his work. This is beautiful. Gives me something to listen to. I’m not into long drawn-out thoughts but I just thought Anuna should know how much they’re appreciated. Thx guys.
This is, I think, the first version of Scarborough Fair I've seen in a while that doesn't use the counter-melody that Simon & Garfunkel popularised in their version. And much as I like the Simon & Garfunkel version, I like this very much as well.
I have never heard such harmonies. I only just discovered the Celtic genre a couple days ago, but I'm pretty sure Anuna is my favorite sect of the genre I've heard so far.
I wrote this and then realized that said 8 years ago, not months or days, but anyway if you haven't heard them you might want to check out Celtic Women. Different style, much larger productions, but worth a hearing, IMHO since you like the genre.
The arrangement of the instrumentation on Greensleeves was beautifully emotive and matches the vocal delivery perfectly. The whole thing is lovely. I'll definitely be sharing one of these videos for my fans to hear, I think they'll like it.
Two more evocative arrangements by Michael McGlynn and gorgeous performances by ANÚNA. Greensleeves, followed by Scarborough Fair. Both feature violinist Linda Lampenius. By writing his original introduction and obbligato lines for the violin, Mr. McGlynn has elevated this music beyond an arrangement and closer to a composition. Well done, musicians of ANÚNA!
just bought a ticket to see Anuna in Alkmaar's Great Church early next year. I remember celebrating my birthday on the 14th of December a couple of years ago with an Anuna concert, one of the singers on stage had her birthday too. The beauty of 'Jerusalem' almost made me faint. One of the best birthdays ever! Can't wait to see you in 2012!
this is beautiful I adore Michael McGlynn and Anuna. I cry every time I hear such beautiful music. My family is from Ireland, someday I hope to return forever.
It must be difficult for Anúna to sing so beautiful in this day. I was so glad to read about the educational side of Anúna, to learn and nourish through voice and sound our souls. Thank you.
THIS SONG IS GREAT! My mom sang it to me all the time, it was the only song that could calm me down, and now it's still at the tip top of my list of favorite songs.
Both great pieces! We played greensleeves for our Christmas concert this year, one of the few songs(if not the only) that is a Christmas song with nothing to do with Christmas
@maplesonata Thanks for the the reply! I could not figure out whether it was real, or a well made studio set... LOL Looks breathtaking, wish I was there! Will def buy the DVD once I get a DVD-rom for my netbook...
@brezairola I know, I've seen quite a few very humorous comments regarding the language in Fionnghuala. Excellent performance, regardless, but still, they got a chuckle out of me.
"What Child Is This?", was written in 1865 by William Chatterton Dix. Dix wrote the lyrics and set them to the music of the English Folk Tune Greensleeves, which has it's roots in the 14th century. Dix didn't write music, he composed the lyrics and set them to popular songs, such as "Alleluia! Sing to Jesus!" which is set to a Welsh tune known as Hyfrydol.
There is a persistent belief that Greensleeves was composed by Henry VIII for his lover and future queen consort Anne Boleyn. Boleyn allegedly rejected King Henry's attempts to seduce her, and this rejection may be referred to in the song when the writer's love "cast me off discourteously".
Greenleeves is magic and arrangement is wonderful but all anùna music has the smell of ancient and celtic Europe. The only regret I have is I found it too late.
thank you for the kind answer. I have always enjoyed songs and music you play. But you are the only Group plays them all together. I am not a boy, I have been listening celtic music, or traditional Irish music, or Christmas Carols, or medieval music since I was a boy 30 years ago. Where were you? Anyway you are fantastic !
@WildFrenchman oh dear God...this was 3 freaking months ago. 1) i wasn't trying to be funny in any way... 2) really now...wow. just found out uploader=brezairola...hm. ok. so he's right. still. he could've probably done without some of the sarcasm. i'm glad you pride yourself in your own knowledge and use of sarcasm. really. im proud. (note lame attempt at sarcasm...we can't all be "naturals") 3. i do, too...but not usually while i'm listening.
@brezairola I'm giggling because Yosemite obviously doesn't know who you are. Interestingly, today I learned that most ice cream trucks here in Sydney play "Greensleeves."
@Yosemite25 Sir (or ma'am), I'm not sure if you're aware, but I believe you're speaking to the artist himself... or someone who works very closely with Anuna. Either way, I don't believe the term "loser" is at all appropriate.

Thank you Hannah. We are listening always.
You just said everything 🥰

I for one think the song sounds like a man remembering an past love, and so it would make sense for him to smile at the fond memories.
The singers in Anuna are truly an inspiration.
Greensleeves, the song the got me into medieval type music.
you all have done beautifully :')
The soloist's voice is beautiful
His face is beautiful too.
That's Michael McGlynn, he's the founder of Anuna, and the composer or arranger of the songs they sing.

I adore ANÚNA! Thank you for existing and sharing the love to music! ❤️
I listen to Anuna quite often, since accidently meeting them in Paris during the Riverdance years... They are extremely talented
Wow. You just have to listen to Anuna and all your troubles have gone. They are the pinnacle of vocal choirs by a mile.

I am delighted to have seen this performance. Everyone involved allowed the music to flow through them.
this is beautiful I adore Michael McGlynn and Anuna. I cry every time I hear such beautiful music. My family is from Ireland, someday I hope to return forever.
Is this how heaven feels like! I’m so enchanted
I always thought Greensleeves was a purely instrumental piece of music, how nice to have lyrics to sing along to.
Oooooh the part where Scarborough comes in is chilling and masterful.
best version of scarborough fair. simple, pure, beautiful
Breathtaking!
i can listen to this all year long.

Irish culture is beautiful.
Yes it is. English too as the songs are both English, and the violinist is a Swedish speaking Finn. We are so lucky to be able to celebrate together.
Pretty cool! Congratulations!
Lindo 🤗🤗😉😪😪
But you can like both :) I also hear rock and metal but I also love gaelic songs and classic :))
@brezairola I know, I've seen quite a few very humorous comments regarding the language in Fionnghuala. Excellent performance, regardless, but still, they got a chuckle out of me.
they really are identical twins! ( guitar player and second singer on top left )
listening to this sublimeness i am a puddle.
I love this song because it sounds kind of like harp
U can see they don't just have blank expressions they are either sad or happy looking

Everytime I hear Greensleeves I think of the song What Child Is This
+Kayla Pratley what child is this is based off of greensleeves no?
"What Child Is This?", was written in 1865 by William Chatterton Dix. Dix wrote the lyrics and set them to the music of the English Folk Tune Greensleeves, which has it's roots in the 14th century. Dix didn't write music, he composed the lyrics and set them to popular songs, such as "Alleluia! Sing to Jesus!" which is set to a Welsh tune known as Hyfrydol.
Greensleeves was supposedly written by Henry the VIII but not sure if that's true.
Colleen Jones is that the one that cut anne boleyns head off ?
It is the same tune.
すっごく聴いたことのある曲だけど、どこで聴いたのかが全く思い出せない…
I wonder if Greensleeves was the first recorded instance of a golddigger?
Or the first recorded instance of a man who just can't take the hint that the woman just wasn't that into him...
Corrie De Beer I ain't sayin she a gold digger...💏💰
There is a persistent belief that Greensleeves was composed by Henry VIII for his lover and future queen consort Anne Boleyn. Boleyn allegedly rejected King Henry's attempts to seduce her, and this rejection may be referred to in the song when the writer's love "cast me off discourteously".

+Angelo Camera well we are still going strong 😊

Not Celtic Europe though-very much Anglo Saxon
We have been singing since 1987. This performance is mainstream but generally we are not so it takes a little effort to find stuff like that.
is scarborough a place somewhere in Britian?
Probably. You might like to type it into Google Maps and see if it is.
Yes, it's in Yorkshire in the north of England.
Exquisite exchange. UA-cam comments are fort betes, except when they aren't.
Whiskey Oscar Whiskey ! Happy Christmas Y'all ! (23 December 2018 0945 hours)

Why do I always see arguments going on on Anuna's video comments?
@brezairola dude, who cares. it sounds great! I could care less who or where they come from. Whats your point?
I actually meant smug in the sense of seeming annoyingly self-satisfied. I was referring to the way he smiles.
@Yosemite25 Sir (or ma'am), I'm not sure if you're aware, but I believe you're speaking to the artist himself... or someone who works very closely with Anuna. Either way, I don't believe the term "loser" is at all appropriate.
