    I wanted to make several points, so I apologize for this long post. My presumption is that the rationale for flipping the magnifier to the left is to preclude interference from the ejected shell casings on the M-16/AR-15/M-4 platform. This issue is not unique to the Vortex or any competitive magnifier. I just mounted mine in reverse to flip to the right and noticed that it has three positions: 1) upright (behind the red dot when in use); 2) 45 degrees over to the right and clear of the red dot (which seems to be a good spot that doesn’t interfere with my view of the target from either eye); and 90 degrees over and perpendicular to the vertical axis of the rifle (at which point it clearly blocks the back third of the ejection port although at a distance that allows the dust cover to open and close. However, if you’ve mounted the magnifier to rotate left, the 90 degree position should take it completely out of the line of sight between your left eye and the target.
    When mounted to swing right, the 45 degree position doesn’t appear to have the issue of blocking the ejection port at all. However, I have not used it yet and, in the past, I’ve had spent shell casings land in the crook of my arm, against front or (and inside) my helmet next to my ear and down the front (and back) of my shirt even though I shoot right-handed. There’s just no telling where those things will go sometimes. Having the button in the front with the mount reversed doesn’t seem to be a problem for me. I simply grasp the magnifier with my thumb and index finger and depress the button with the side of my middle finger between the first and second joint, then I rotate the whole thing 45 degrees to the first detente. It’s fast and it seems natural and intuitive enough to me (although it might be helpful for some people to have a button on both sides). The reason I wanted to set the magnifier up this way has more to do with ergonomics than sight picture. Although I’m right handed I am left eye dominant so I have always shot long guns with my left eye closed when using scopes and iron sights. I don’t know how it’s going to work with the red dot. The important thing for me is that I find it easier to support the rifle with my left (non-dominant or weak) hand since it’s already out front and the back of the weapon is being supported by pressing it back against my right shoulder and cheek weld. This leaves my right hand free for all the more exacting tasks like triggering, magazine changes and activating the little Magpul “B.A.D. Lever” add-on to release the bolt catch. My right hand is much more easily trained. And everything happens with the rifle either shouldered or at “low ready”.
    Finally, I discovered while playing with this setup in the store, that the red dot fuzziness caused by my “minor” astigmatism is almost completely resolved by using the magnifier (with or without glasses). When I flip it over I’ll probably use the iron sights to co-witness as that also seems to help.

    I love Vortex optics, I own both a SPARC and a Strike Eagle. I am looking to get this magnifier with another Vortex red dot. Not sure which red dot though. Probably not the SPARC this time. I love the warranty! That seals the deal for me. I do wish you included a bullet hold over for moving targets on the Strike Eagle. Keep making good products and I'll keep giving you my money. My ex wife didn't like how much money I spent on firearms optics and ammo, so I got rid of the wife. Priorities folks. LoL

    Love the sight. Just wish you had a way to have the release button facing the rear when having the magnifier set up to flip to the right. I don't like having the magnifier flip to the left when going to non-magnification optic (strikefire) so that I can keep both eyes open and not one eye (right) non magnified, and the other being magnified. But that's the only way to have the release button to the rear. Other than that, it's an awesome magnifier and makes those longer shots that much easier.

    The magnifier makes shooting 100 meters a piece of cake. With Magpul MBUS flip up sights, it's always a good idea to zero iron sights first, then put the red dot on top of front sight post. The magnifier don't effect where the red dot is So great to co-witness the two. You can adjust for right swing out, just that the push button would be facing you.

    I have an EO Tech 512 mounted on a M&P 15T with the Vortex VMX-3T. I'm left handed so the flip to the left works great for me even though you can adjust for right flip as well. The Magnifier flips over my rear magpul mbus with no rub or contact. both the EO Tech 512 and Vortex VMX-3T are 100 percent cowitness and includes a shim if I prefer 1/3 cowitness. Look great with the rifle and functions with 2 thumbs up. Great product on the Vortex VMX-3T and great value as well.

  • @danielbabcock3280

    Watch out for the language used here. They say it will work with virtually any red dot. I have a dagger defence red dot. For the money I was not disappointed in it and was out very little money. So I wanted some magnication. So I bought the vortex vmx-3t. It paired up nicely. I have never been sold on red dots but I was now. I decided to up grade my red dot to a sparc 2. It was a 2 moa dot which was smaller than i had and i had the vmx-t3 which "will work with virtually any red dot". The sparc 2 is rugged, good looking and a nice 2 moa dot. I was off and running. I placed my order and waited. When it came in I was excited till I mounted it. With no plates in the mounts, for raising either the red dot or the magnifier, the sparc sits in the lower left corner of the vmx-t3. When I looked through the magnifier the dot was doubled or stretched vertically. I figured I missed somthing so I called them up. This is where you need to pay attention to the wording "virtually". I was told by a friendly man that the spark 2 did not work with the magnifier. I then asked which of your red dots do. Well it turns out that the only red dots it will work with is the 500$ razor series or the 4 moa strike fire. I asked if he by chance had a factory refurbished razor and he said "no". He then told me to return the sparc, huge pain in the...., and use that money to save for the razor. Or sell them both and buy a scope. So it's either close range 4 moa or 500$ 1 moa longish range.
    I have a safe full of vortex optics, my family loves their scopes and optics. Out of all of my experiences with them this was the first disappointing one.
    But I did learn one thing, "vitrually all" means no more than 20%. Only 2 out of their line up of 10 red dots work with their brand magnifier. Good solid products, just beware of their wording.

      Sorry to hear Ian - we'd love to have your business. I know that 2.2 inches sounds short, but it is still more forgiving than many battle sights in it's class. -Reuben (raleckson@vortexoptics.com)

    What would happen or would it even work with the spitfire 3x prism scope.

    • @VortexOpticsUSA
      @VortexOpticsUSA  10 років тому

      This is not a good pairing. It won't focus/look good. I wouldn't even recommend using the 1X Spitfire, actually. I would recommend sticking to the Strikefire II, SPARC II, Razor, or other similar red dots. Thanks and please let me know if you have further questions. I would be happy to help. - Jimmy, jjordan@vortexoptics.com

      As long as they recommend using that optic with a magnifier and it is mounted at a lower 1/3 co-witness height or absolute co-witness height they would work just fine together!

    The push button sucks ass when the magnifier is mounted the right. Trigger finger and cheek weld go bye bye when pushing the mount up and down.

      Not anymore- we used to. It was manufactured by American Defense. It appears to be still offered through them. I would recommend checking out Primary Arms. Looks like they have them in stock. Would anybody happen to know if it's reversible so that it flips right instead of left

    • @VortexOpticsUSA
      @VortexOpticsUSA  4 роки тому

      It can, but then the button would be facing forward instead of backward. It is also compatible with any aftermarket mounts that also work with the EOTech G33 magnifier. On top of that, we have our Micro 3X Magnifier which uses an entirely different Quick-release base altogether with no button that can be flipped either direction, too.

    Does this work with the 3x Prism??

    • @VortexOpticsUSA
      @VortexOpticsUSA  9 років тому

      +Matt C. Actually, no this would not be a good fit with the 3x prism scope. It can be made to work with the 1x prism scope but is not ideal because the Spitfire would need to be adjusted for use with and without the magnifier. A red dot is a better option when being used with a magnifier. Thanks, Matt. Feel free to email with further questions. I'm happy to help. - Jimmy, jjordan@vortexoptics.com

      I can definitely understand why you would think that and that's why the VMX3-T was designed to be able to flip the right side as well. Simply reverse the direction of the magnifier and turn the mount around and you now have a right-side flipping magnifier. Thanks for the feedback. • @VortexOpticsUSA
      @VortexOpticsUSA  8 років тому

      Thanks for your comments - we appreciate it! You can simply unbolt the magnifier from the base, flip the base around, and re-mount the magnifier. We realize the button is facing forward, but it does alleviate the issue of the magnifier being in front of your weak eye. -Reuben (raleckson@vortexoptics.com)

      If the Aimpoint Pro can be set to the same height, or extremely close to the same height as the VMX3-T (37mm or 40mm), then yes it will work. The only other thing I would recommend is to put the Aimpoint Pro on some sort of a cantilever offset mount to scoot the sight forward to leave enough room on the rail for the backup iron sight.
