- never under estimate a MINI !!! great great race between a KAD 1380 cc mini (driven by Yoga Perera 50 yrs + ) vs a Honda twin cam 1400cc ....(damith ) @ rotherham circuit meet...sri lanka...
Just watched this again to cheer myself up and it works!
Just watched this for the umpteenth time and still had a big smile on my face right the way through.
180hp against 110hp on the Honda.Race prep custom made event for then Rajapakse backed and racing organizers cars(Yoga) even the non educated commentators screaming while the video is played on annoyingly
absolutely right, the same reason go karts are so much fun, engine size means feck all when it comes to racing, when the playing field is level.
You can see the favouritism, if you listen to the commentators. They are saying YOGA, 60 year old poofter, is the fastest around the corners or in other words is the better driver. We can see that Dr. Damith is the better driver because he is all over Yoga in the corners. And that Yoga is front because of the power of the KAD engine, because he puts about 20 car lengths between the cars in the strights. So even the commentators are more or less giving their asses to Yoga, who is a senior office bearer (President, Secretary or who ever) of the club organizing the whole meet. These commentators are getting paid because of Yoga and is cohorts of poofters and they are in the commentary to give their thanks, when any idiot can see that Dr. Damith is the better driver.
+john john I think the Mini deliberately has a slow start to make it look more like a race! The other cars don't stand a chance against the speed of that Mini down the straights! That Honda guy realised that the only way to win against the Mini's straight line power was to take a chance from miles back!
Malaysian ..came here by accident. should be clear that the mini is much quicker in a straight line. both drove well but honda driver had no chance in the long straight.
Yoga Perera one of the best race drivers in Sri Lanka for the long time of period. I watched one race of him on a Minimoke driving without one rear wheel and won the race.
Go the Mini. Minis usualy get dusted on the straights my almost anything, but that thing is killer!

Hey Doc, I just happen to watch this video. Then I took the time to read through all the comments. I know what Yoga and his "CLUB" cohorts would have subjected you to after the race. Yoga reeks of jealousy. Just like everything else is Sri Lanka, motor racing is not what you just see at a particluar event. People who know the motor racing scene in Sri Lanka know that Yoga and his buddies have been in control of all organizing clubs for the past 25 years. Why do they do it ? So they can tinker with classifications and make special events to cater to themselves, or in other words that they WIN. Yoga is known to object to any person who can challenge him in HIS EVENTS. Yoga and his buddies somehow make the class so that their car is more or less the fastest in that class.
It's weird, but usually the smaller the displacement the more exciting things get when racing

Good old "Yogi Bear" (lol), I enjoyed that, nice to see a Mini doing its stuff again, great.
I could write pages how this Yoga, who was a small time car importer in the 1980s and 1990s (2 cars every 6 months or so), became the Chairman of Sri Lanka Telecom (without having any education that would qualify him for the post or without any money to buy the controlling share of state run phone company of Sri Lanka), but because the former President Rajapakse's Youngest son wanted to get into Motor Racing and Yoga, using his office bearing positions in the Motor Sports clubs and controlling body helped him. And as is the usual case in all matters of that sort in Sri Lanka, he was given that Chairmanship post by the former President as pay back. As a result of holding that post for "close to 10 years" during the former regime, Yoga became a multi-millionaire (obviously these senior positions command tremendous power and influence in the Third World, which in turn means kick backs from all directions. I suppose that is how he was able to buy that engine from KAD for over 25000 Sterling Pounds, which makes him a part of the corrupt former regime and a Thief at another level. May be I shouldn't have mentioned all that.. I would rather Yoga be known as a poofter than the thief.

I never get tired of watching this. The doctor even tries to push Yoga off the track and just succeeds in busting his own front end, magic stuff. I`ll be back.
maxa mini, wonderful performance of Yoga perra, Mini is wonderful creation of world. all know how mini fast is. Honda is ok but when comparing with mini its the mini, cos the size and all and even the balance in hing standard.

@damitharis ya machan i agree with you, you are correct. machan i do not have much idea about vehicles and there technical stuff but i really love mini, machan there is guy one of my best friend some time you might have heard of him, he is so famous with minis. he only repair, sell, modify and etc with minis. his name is Donald, and he was with Mr. Buljuns working with his mini when he was doing racing. Dr. Damitha has tried reletnlessly to beat the KAD 1380 cc Mini driven by the best in the field of Mini's..Yoga Perera. His attempts unfortunately failed and the one time that he thought he did win over Yoga was at the Colombo Night Races last year. His dreams were short lived so to say and the reason was clearly because Dr. Damitha raced his Honda with a higher engine capacity and got caught. He is now serving a 3 year ban from racing.

@damitharis no no, the one im talking about is a guy who work with minis and his name is Abeygoonesekara, he worked with Mr.Buljens when he was doing racing some time back. Now he is working with minis and he has got lot and he sells and modify minis too. one of best i have know regarding minis cos most of people says that he is good in minis and he has backed from UK. some times you may know him machan,

@damitharis ayooooooooooo, why didn't you try it out, you had wonderful chances and owned wonderful cars macho. i really love these miniss. ma favorite car. haha. yeah some time ya father might have known him for sure. he is Mr Mahasen Abeygoonasekara, even at the moment he is having more than 7 minis, including a (300-) one. ask ya father he knows i hope. this guy is doing fine with minis.

Yoga was the better driver.... During a heated moment if one car is following another the driver of the following car be cause that person has the chance to do the late braking technique which the driver in front wouldn't have an easy time doing this while in front and the driver doc doesn't have enough experience if he had he wouldn't went in the grass because of over throttling in apex of turn but good try though..... He couldn't handle v tec. Lolololol
