  • OPEN WATER: SAN SALVADOR, BAHAMAS (Oct. 2021): I first got to experience scuba diving in San Salvador back on Memorial Weekend 2012 in which through UnderseaX (owned by friend and dive buddy Greg Hamman) I was able to get my initial Open Water Diving certification. Almost 10 years later I made it back (this time with Peter). To my surprise some of my close dive buddies who I met in 2012 came back as well, not to mention the dive instructor who certified me in 2012, Mr, Tyler Shultz! Peter and I hadn't done any scuba diving trips since Oct. 2019 (pre pandemic) so coming to this place, getting in the water, and experience beautiful marine life was just what the doctor prescribed Have to say Peter is doing very well with his skills underwater which I'm extremely happy and proud of. It was awesome getting to stay at the same diving resort (Riding Rock, Cockburn Town) from my first visit and get to meet some awesome dive buddies plus dive master Betsy Campbell who was in charge of the "camera people" boat (as Christine would describe it!!). In our week at Riding Rock we were lucky to have some beautiful weather with excellent visibility during most of our dives plus we got to see Caribbean Reef Sharks during every single dive! Just a little history on this place: San Salvador Island (known as Watling's Island from the 1680s until 1925) is an island and district of the Bahamas. It is widely believed that during Christopher Colombus' first expedition to the New World this island was the first land he sighted and visited on 12 October 1492. He named it San Salvador after Christ the Saviour. Columbus's records indicate that the native Lucayan inhabitants of the territory called their island Guanahani. Riding Rock's resort named its diving company Guanahani Divers to honor the island's original name. Hope everyone enjoys the video and looking forward for more scuba diving trips in the near future. CHEERS!
