Its easier with older conflicts because we have a data pool of a lot of battles to simulate accurate encounters. We have seen what happens when 2000 men attack 800 entrenched men dozens of times through the 1700s so we can model that pretty well. Its harder and a bit more speculative with modern naval combat since all we have to go off is Falklands and operation Praying Mantis.
At the end of the game he employed the Wizard spell, which doubled the loss to the Chinese to 10, 000. I have the same edition of the D&D game they were playing.
All these people in comments must have never read up on the accuracy of wargames in determining future events. They did the same simulation styles for Vietnam war and then the results happened in real life.

Yes you can play wargames. you have to decide on an era and then on a specific rulebook to learn and use for your game. you'll need tokens or miniatures to represent units and a map for the scale of wargame you want. also friends, friends are important for this.

Believe it or not this is what real militaries do to strategize and they've been doing it for a long time too. It all comes down to getting the rules right. If your rules say every time you hit a Japanese ship with torpedo when in reality your torpedoes don't work, you're going to be very sad.

A board game is actually a good way to think about this. Rolling a dice and getting random combinations would be realistic in the sense that a war can go ANY way. If you keep getting unlucky with the dice rolls, then you gotta make due with what ya got. You won't always have a fleet of destroyers at your disposal. 3 3 24

I think this simulation seems accurate. The Chinese are smart. and are not going to attempt this for at least another 30 or even 50 years. The Chinese play the long game. And they know for now at least the US Navy is very well run and able to respond to a crisis. Their hope is that in 50 years the Navy won't be as capable and disciplined as they are now.

I think this simulation seems accurate. The Chinese are smart. and are not going to attempt this for at least another 30 or even 50 years. The Chinese play the long game. And they know for now at least the US Navy is very well run and able to respond to a crisis. Their hope is that in 50 years the Navy won't be as capable and disciplined as they are now.
