Mine is arriving today and Zelda will just have to wait it's turn
fingers crossed for a Playstation 4/5 port.
You got your wish! It’s happening! Available on 6/30/23.
Front MIssion 3, shooked me when i reached that map that used a location here in Philippines, Taal Base, Batangas Harbor, good times
I forgot about that! Good times! Can’t wait for the remake of that game!
Great music, made me want to watch the review again lol
Nice video, bro!
Just a tip, the right way to speak Wanzer is Vanzer, i learned that in FM4. The characters speak Vanzer
Just to help some ppl each pilot has their own "specialization" as in their good at either short(machine gun/shotgun/rifle) meele(knuckles/rods) or long range(missiles) and the pilot learns the correspondent skills for each type faster if he fights using the right weapon type...royd is an short specialist for example so learns the skills for this type faster using a machine gun/shotgun than if he tried to be meele or long range....game doesn't explain this stuff but you can find each character specialization on the old guides....
Actually, Lloyd/Royd can be trained to specialize in any category (melee/short/long/dodge) since he gains an equal amount of bonus EXP in each category per level, but since short weapons are the safest choice in early game and absolutely busted in late game, most people end up training him in short.
Other characters gain different amounts of bonus EXP per level up which signifies what they specialize in.
I hope that the Armored Core project rumors are true, because we need more mech customization games in this day and age!
I'll say that grinding in the battle arena is addictive in a passive don't have to pay much attention kind of way. Really takes off one you learn some skills for the characters. Lots of fun getting OP early since there is no limit on how much you can play the arena and the fact that arena combat is one on one with no tactical grid. Fun to get to new towns and grind out the equipment.
One of my complaints is there is no team simulation battle like in front mission 4. There will come a point when i have all the characters and wanzer parts unlocked that i want, and i just want to play some squad missions without beating the game or advancing the story.
This is why. I bought a switch and I heard FM 2 and 3 are getting remade on it!
Second review I watch and you all seem to agree. Weird idea to remake this game if the story, music and gameplay aren't that good. They should just have directly remade Front Mission 3.
Wtf I had no idea this game stealth released. My guess is it will get physical if ever when 2 comes out bundled.
Or when 3 comes out too 😉
I know it's only like a 30 second loop, but this song is a certified banger.
I still can't believe we're getting remakes of these games. I love Front Mission so much.
Is that music in the beginning from the game?
It’s from the SFC soundtrack. I didn’t have time to record a clean track from the game this time 🙁
The game doesn't have a barebones story... its pretty damn good and detailed especially the military conflict. The whole series has a very good lore.
to me the first FM 1st has the most tragic war story in gaming especially when you play both sides. You have that "oh" moment.
Clearly the reviewer hasn't completed the game
I love that they updated the graphics, it is a shame there wasn't a feature that allowed me to alternate to an updated/revised/polished/modernized version of the gameplay. That would have been really something to write home about.
Honestly I would recommend any old school mech enthusiast to wrap their heads around emulators and download the DS version from over a decade ago...thought I think its in Japanese(?)...no big though, I remember I found out walkthroughs that will teach you the basics, just enough so one can navigate through the menus, and get the hidden conversations with characters at key moments during the campaign (leads to items and secret missions), without having to learn Japanese.
Don't get me wrong, I love this game, it came at a time when everything JRPG was trying to be the next Final Fantasy, but FrontMission was mechas in a world with a rather dark tone, where the lines separating the good guys and bad guys are rather blurry, and at the end? Not exactly what I would call a happy ending...not even bittersweet.
It is very bizarre that this was only released on the switch and not on the PS4 and PS5 as I'm pretty sure if it was released on those 2 platforms, it would play much better. It's even gone to a point where me and a friend we usually point fingers at switch releases not being as good as recent releases at times. I'm not surprised that front mission 1st remake would not be up to the same standards as all the recent remakes that square has been doing but considering the fact that we never got the original front mission aside from on the DS years ago and that everything else has just been medivial SRPGs and barely any more mecha SRPGs aside from SRW T, V, X and 30, which to clarify you can't even buy those normally aside from importing them or buy them on steam, at least you have one more alternative if you want another robot SRPG. This 1st attempt is a little bit off and not that well optimized so maybe the 2nd and 3rd remakes when we get those they'll be better improvements next year especially since I've heard from a lot of people that the 3rd game is arguably the best one in the series but at least we are getting more of them. Good job on the review Alex!
I think it's because Nintendo is putting in the money. More else this would shine so much more on the PC especially when it comes to dueling
I'll probably pick this up as I typically really enjoy tactics games, but I'll definitely wait for a sale. This game wasn't handled with the same love and care as other recent remasters, Square outsourced these games to Forever Entertainment, a polish developer. Obviously Square saw something they didn't like and have Forever publishing these instead of themselves. With that said though I am excited to see what they do with the Front Mission 2 and 3 remasters.
my top three JRPG where I can customize mecha. the other two are Dark Chronicles (not exactly a mecha game) and MS Saga: A New Dawn (it's gundam jrpg).
I had to google Dark Chronicles because it sounded faimilar, not realizing that's the Japanese name for Dark Cloud 2. lol
But yeah, Max's Ridepod customization was really cool!
MS Saga was an awesome game
Hey just for future reference its pronounced "Vonser" (although it was pronounced "wanzer" in Left Alive and Evolved but they're better left forgotten haha). Solid review though thanks - I'm especially looking forward to Front Mission 3 and its dual stories! :)
I guess it would depend on the speaker because the way they pronounced wanzer is the way panzer is usually pronounced in American English.
@@wiegraf9009 Yeah I was just going by the official FM3 booklet and how they changed it in future Nintendo Directs after the first one with FM. I should correct myself and its actually "van'-ser"
front mission 4 has voice overs and its Von-Ser its German.
I wish ground up remakes like this had the original game tucked in the extras or something. Metroid zero mission did it to were you could unlock the original game after you beat it if I remember correctly.
Bro, same about Front Mission 3, still my alltime favorite, the right mix of RNG and skill!🥰
I can’t wait for the remake! I think it’s going to be amazing!
@@BacklogBattle I have faith in that reality!😤
Oh this looks like my jam! Thank you as always 🎉
Im just glad that it’s like an actual tactical FM and not like left alive or that other 3rd person shooter they made on ps3 or so generation.
Excellent review Alex! Regarding the quality-of-life issues around starting a level: this was an area where Fell Seal excelled. That’s another tactical RPG, in the vein of Final Fantasy Tactics. When you start a level in that game, you can scout each opponent as much as you want, and change the equipment and settling on each of your characters, before deciding which party members to use and where to put them. Fell Seal is a great game overall, but also has lots of these little conveniences that make the player feel more “empowered” as you said.
I keep hearing about Fell Seal! I'll need to check it out at some point!
I actually missed out on the DS release in 2007 (I wanted to get it, but couldn't find a copy anywhere at the time) so I'm quite excited to play this version, awkward moments and all. I'm actually kind of glad they left a lot of the game design alone, even if it is clearly from a different era, and including the second scenario was so cool, too, as I feel like a lot of remakes/remasters (not always from SE, just in general) seem to ignore additions made to later revisions of the game they're remaking. It seems like the team was really out to make the definitive version. I hope it gets a physical release some time
I played Front Mission 3, 4, n 5 back in my school days but didnt care about the story. Years later I went back to play those 3 games again n got fascinated by the story also the world-building of Front Mission. But never got a chance to play the first n the 2nd iteration somehow. I wont miss this. Also personally for me, FM3 is the best but FM5 offers more intense feeling because unlike Kazuki Takemura (FM3's mc), Walter Feng is a grown adult so the story is abit darker.
Kind of an odd choice for this to be a Switch exclusive, either way I don't think I will be getting this anytime soon, maybe if it goes up on sale? The fact of the matter is that there are far more interesting games in the genre that I haven't gotten around to yet.
Timing is everything, as they say!
Yeah, I really don't understand why it's exclusive to Switch, especially considering most of the series has been on Playstation consoles, even the most recent spin-offs, FM: Evolved and Left Alive.
This reminds me of Grandia, another series that was mainly on PlayStation, and then it get's exclusive console rights on Switch...
@@allthatishere It comes across to me that some sort of exclusivity deal has been struck with Nintendo, either that or the team is too small and they don't have the manpower to handle multiple ports.
It's a complex contract situation between Nintendo and forever entertainment
Yoooooo great review, I can't wait for this to drop!!
Did you get it yet?
@@BacklogBattle Yes I will be bingeing it this weekend when I'm free 😍😆🥳
I can totally appreciate what they were trying to do here (and while I haven't played the game) I am sick and tired of the Switch's hardware limitations being a crutch for devs not putting in the work to make their games work.
If Monolith can make Xenoblade 3 work on the Switch than SQUEENIX can get a budget remake of a nearly 40 year old game to work on the same hardware.
I think Square Enix just licensed the game because Forever Entertainment published it. I don't exactly know how that works, but that implies that they were a bit more hands-off on this one than the rest of their releases this year.
@@BacklogBattle yeah, like I said, I appreciate what they were trying to do here with this but the Switch's hardware isn't the setback that some may think. There are numerous spectacular games that are massive in scale made on this system, but you have to know what you're doing, know the hardware and actually put in the time and effort.
A lot of companies would rather cut their losses it seems.
Front Mission 3 was my childhood. If they also remake that game with new story paths/parts I would tear up
I’m just expecting a remake. New stories would be nice, but I’d prefer them to really nail everything else that was in the original before adding new things. I’m under the impression that this studio is running at a tight budget for these
3 is coming
@@BacklogBattle I mean ofcourse, the added content will come second. I just want previous unobtainable weapons like the Einband and Beckwood, or parts from FM5 since its story (atleast about half or 3rd of it) takes place before FM3, just to tie together the 2 games better
FM3 and 4 spoiled me, so I barely played FM1st despite owning a DS copy. I always wanted to go back to it to give it another shot, and I would love to support the series' return. That said, I'm not buying a Switch near the end of its lifespan just for a remake of a SNES title that I already own on DS. Time to break out the ol' DS Lite.
Side note: The DS Lite is so resilient. No peeling paint or faulty buttons after thousands of hours of play over 15 years. Even the spring loader is perfectly fine. Besides my SNES (that still works perfectly nearly 20 years after dropping a flat-screen CRT on it and shattering the entire case), I've never had such a reliable system.
I'm really happy this series is getting remade, but this first one looks a bit dry to be honest. I'll probably wait for the 2nd and 3rd to hop in.
I personally can’t wait for 3!
Thanks for another great review
Front mission 4 is the only front mission game I’ve played and I really enjoyed it. Curious to get back to it with the previous games
You're in luck because FM4 is one of the less good Front Mission games!
Then you’re gonna love the trilogy that came before it!
I played this with an English fan translation on an SNES rom about 10 years ago (the original Front Mission, not Front Mission 1st). I remember playing it was a breeze and a pretty easy game to play, so I'm a little surprised it being referred to as hardcore in this review. I don't know, maybe Front Mission 1st reworked the difficulty and depth and that probably carried over to this remake. I'll probably get this when I get the chance because I'm curious about that 2nd campaign.
Secret super weapon that you can pick up on the mission is included in this remake?
So here are my first impressions of this remake:
1. It's a shame they didn't take the direction that Front Mission 2089: Border of Madness did and implement the Front Mission 5 battle system (2089 had FM1 sprite art assets but the new battle system with links, AP, etc.) since that would have improved the battles a lot and given old fans something to get interested in. I know that would require redesigning the battles to some extent, but the original isn't the most balanced game anyhow. It starts out quite challenging and then gets very easy over time, similar to Final Fantasy Tactics.
2. They did a pretty good job with the wanzer models, and they have a nice level of detail, but the animations are very lacking compared to Front Mission 5, where they were much more expressive, similar to the animations in FM1.
3. The lighting is very harsh and doesn't suit the game. If they wanted to go for a look of miniatures in a wargaming diorama they could have used more matte textures to reinforce that look. Despite being ancient technology by now, Front Mission 5 looks so so so much better with its use of accretion blur, lens effects, and much more effective use of particle effects. The lighting also is much less blown out, which contributes to a gritty look that suits the game. This was a good compromise, where it was more dynamic than FM4, where everything was just EXTREMELY drab.
4. The upres'd portraits are pretty nice, although they definitely lose the painterly wispy look that Amano brought to the game. Many fans found that Amano's style really didn't suit Front Mission though, so I guess it's not a big loss.
5. I wonder if the game runs so poorly because the assets aren't very well optimised? The foliage looks like it has a lot of density going on, something that could probably be fixed up. The texture resolution seems to be quite uneven as well. The map ground textures look quite high res, but the ones in battle are very low res, with pretty terrible grass models thrown on top.
6. Speaking of which, what is with the explosions! They're so sad with basically no particles being thrown off them!
7. I believe they did a pretty straight translation of the game script, which was very terse even in Japanese, due to memory limitations and how big the chinese characters had to be on screen in order to clearly communicate which kanji they were. Because of that we don't get blocking notes saying, for example, that Natalie is talking under her breath in that scene you highlighted, which is implied by the context.
Overall, I'll give the game a go, but I've played through Front Mission 1/1st/DS so many times by this point that it's very well trodden territory and this remake doesn't bring anything especially new to the mix, not even the rebalances we got with the recent Tactics Ogre remake.
Thanks for the thorough analysis! Do you know if the localization on the DS version is any better than this one? That's something that I really wanted to know.
@@BacklogBattle I'm not certain about it but it appears to be the same. Would have to check the credits to be sure I suppose.
Yeah as someone who played this one the DS! I feel the same! I might look more favorably since I played DS right off of F4 which was what got me into the series in the first place. So I got frustrated half-way in (both campaigns) and dropped it till I lost the game! Wasn't till playing Front Mission 3 for the first time on my PS3 that I wished for a second shot at this! I guess because I never got to play Front Mission 5 nor the "DS" sequels they released for Front Mission 1 DS (Damn you Square Enix, Way to kill any hope for this franchise by going back into your damn head hole! Seriously I want to punch the idiots who were still preventing 2 and 5 from coming out here and pushed the series into the horror that was Evolved and Left Alive! I know about Gun Hazard and hopefully we might get that one! But it was a dick move how they treated the series for this long!) I mean Live A Live added SOME new things to it beyond looking fancy and some balancing's!
Hopefully Front Mission 2 remake will be more proper, but then seeing as I never got to play 2 only saw gameplay videos! Only thing I see is the battle transitions are better on the Switch version then the PSX LOL! But that one has the things I'm more familiar with like the AP system (2 was the one that introduced that to the series as 3-5 used the AP system) and expanded on the skill system (though 3-5 established it more better) can't wait to play 2 proper this time (instead of being envious at the emulators like I was with Live A live till that remake came out! Man 2022 will go down for me as the year I got to play all the games of my past I wanted to play again like Tactics Ogre Reborn, Front Mission 1 and soon Romancing Saga 1 PS2 remake! To never getting to play like Live A Alive). That one won't be a remake to me. So I'll be going into new grounds with 2!
Will say I'm happy the price for this one WAS proper at the very least! I guess they did take note of what you just put down! It's more a better looking Remaster then a Remake (Remake would mean they implemented the Border of Madness additions you just stated, they didn't so this isn't a remake) The Amano artstyle was always a fav for me! Guess since I'm not too insane with small details! I only liked seeing it again instead of "nitpicking" LOL (not saying what you said, just noting the folk who like to focus on meaningless shit as "ruined forever" god those folk can get annoying sometimes)
A thing I found annoying with this is how the MUSIC is playing! Where it plays, stops then begins again! Hopefully they patch it so it doesn't do that anymore! But frankly I'm happy to play this one again! Hell I'm doing better then my first time back in the DS era because I've gotten better at these's types of games! But I can see why some will likely stop playing in frustration and just go back to Tactics Ogre Reborn (Happy that one got a remake and took out much of the PSP changes I REALLY DIDN'T LIKE BACK THEN) At least the quality of life additions were a plus for both this and Tactics Ogre Reborn (but more TOR! Front Mission 1 still had the issue of get certain skills, get past those "badly balanced" missions and the rest is easy mode! At least difficulty modifiers can slightly mitigate this! And I have a thing for not using cheese tactics UNLESS the bullshit is too bullshit that I have no choice! But yeah like Final Fantasy Tactics! The only difficulty is how you make it for yourself and the VERY small few bullshit moments in them! But once you get past them, nothing of note pops up again and can get too easy! At least the stories are good enough to keep me pushing forward
@@paulman34340 Yeah honestly just improving the load times for battle animations in Front Mission 2 will make it a huge step up from the original, which was really going beyond what the dev team could pull off with the PlayStation! You mentioned FM2 was the first to include an AP system, but in the late game it ALSO has the first version of the link system we saw in FM4 and FM5! It's just implemented as a skill instead of a full on game system. Anyhow, tons to look forward to with that remake, since like you said, most people have never had a chance to play it, and those that did had to suffer through the awful load times so they couldn't enjoy it fully!
@@wiegraf9009 Yeah, I was looking at Front Mission 2 stuff before you sent this reply and realized the Honor system is kind of like a prototype of the Link system (that can be used for and against you)
One thing I'll say with this remake (F1) is at least the load times aren't horrid LOL! Tempted to go into Classic though! My Switch Lite has "joycon drift" and I've been trying to find games I can play with just the DPad (For traveling! I have a stand and Pro Controller! But those are for games that NEED the Joystick! I'll be trading for a Oled in the future! But hey best to find what games ONLY need the DPAD for when I'm traveling and can't use the Pro Controller LOL! At least the two modes give me some differences depending on if I can use the pro controller or stuck with the DPAD)
And yeah, Load Times will make and Break a game for some people! Especially in Battle Transitions! I mean a plus was I found the whole movement and attacking during the battles in PSX F2 to be too long and annoying (such as the Wanzer feels like their posing and SLOWLY moving into place to attack) while the gameplay trailer for F2 Remake showed them moving quickly and attacking just as fast! This is noticeable when you remember battle transitions in F3 were ALOT better (like Fire Emblem Fates and Fire Emblems after that game where the moment battle is commence it quickly goes down to them and back into map mode after everything happens for a quicker enjoyable experience)
F2 remake battle transition to PSX is like comparing Speedy Gonzales racing THE FUCKING FLASH! So I REALLY can't wait for the Remake! (What I like and Missed about F4 Link system was it was my first introduction to Support Boosts in a Tactics RPG! Never knew or apricated them till the Fire Emblem series which I started with the GBA one or specifically "THE FIRST FIRE EMBLEM THEY GAVE US AMERICANS" and played the series everytime a new Fire Emblem came out! Same with Final Fantasy where I started at 7! Seven was also my FIRST RPG IN GENERAL If you don't count Pokemon Red and Blue as RPG! Best to say Final Fantasy was my first PROPER RPG. Funny enough is till you brought back up the Link system from F4. I never even realized it was a Support buff system! I just used it cause the game told me too! I was a naive teen JRPG Virgin still getting the ropes of these's games! And I have an easier time with them now that I "know how to swim" and Happy to get a second crack or chance in the case of those I missed that are getting Remastered like the SaGa games and this one)
Hopefully we get Front Mission 5 this time
The lack of weapon range bothers me greatly. Having to move right up to each enemy, to attack. Probably coming from FM5, the gameplay shows a lot of age.
TRPGs are my Achilles heel. I just bought this after buying the new Tactics Ogre remake while I’m still playing through DioField Chronicle. The FM games are some of my favorites though (not including FM Evolved), and the two games in the series… OK three games that I’d like to see remade are FM 3, 4, and FM Alternative, which was a Japan-only PS1 game that I imported and played a ton!
Front Mission 3 is slated to be remade after 2 releases!
@@BacklogBattle ‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️
Excellent review, well done.
This is such a good game, and looks fantastic on Rog Ally. Love it. Great review.
I completely forgot about this game coming out. I need to play it after watching your review. Great work as always 👍
This will be an immediate buy once it’s out physically
I loved the game, but I agree with your grievances. One thing I would have liked to have was a terrain preview. I had clunker legs equipped on ⅔ of my squad, who couldn’t go up or down terrain to attack... At least having the opportunity to switch out equipment on the battlefield with the resupply truck would have been an interesting touch. Playing it in 3D with the Super Famicom version OST was cool, though. I think there's a lot of room for improvement, but I'm already looking forward to the next installment! Cheers
I still play FM3 and would love to see that remade too. I hope this does well, maybe we'll see more of these 🤞
2 and 3 are on the way!
@@BacklogBattle Well, looks like I'll be buying a switch then! Thanks for the info
I will wait for a sale around 50% before buying since its digital if its physical ill buy it without a second thought
Check the pinned comment! 😉
nice review! i would love to buy the game but have to save up a bit... €35 is a bit steep for me atm and i hope they would do a sale where this game gets a discount
Some are guessing that when all three remakes are out that they might package it in a bundle! Not sure if it will happen, but it's possible!
@@BacklogBattle nintendo prices are always insane. it would be awesome if they bundle it (and would even lay down €40 for it XD)
played so much fm3 on the ps1. cant wait to see the rest get remade
So far, FM2 is looking even better than FM1, so I've got high hopes for 3!
@@BacklogBattle 3s considered the peak, least thts what i always thought, so ur in for a good time when you do play it
@@mikeanderson3521 I already own it on PS1!
as you said it is what it is but its great that FM 1st gets fresh realese. It's ways better than the orginal i think to play it nowadays and get to the story
Absolutely! The fact that we got a Front Mission game in a year already filled with amazing JRPGs is fantastic in my book!
Thanks for the review, I have a general question, but what languages does the game support? I can imagine it could be difficult for those who don't read English fluently
Or is it quite simple that you don't need too much knowledge of English.
I ask because a friend of mine is looking forward to the game, but speaks/reads little or no English
English, French, Italian, German, Spanish, Portuguese, Polish, Chinese, Japanese
The Fan Translations were done better on the fan patches as well as the DS versions
7:05 that dude looks like that dude in hunter x hunter during the chimera ant saga
Played Front Mission 3 on the PS1, then bought the DS release. Thinking of retrying the DS version and replaying Front Mission 3 on the PS Vita before spending money on the switch version. 🤔❤️🤖
The combat and UI looks bad and cheap. Doesn't hold a candle to the originals.
It's crazy I've been playing this series since it was on the super famicom I'm just glad people are still into the series because those last two installments evolved and Left Alive were garbage LOL
Really love this franchise
Same! Super happy it’s making a comeback!
04:35 YES. Wanzers built like in FM Evolved are heresy.
I am frightened of the coming Mobile Front Mission game.
I saw a clip of someone playing it during the beta and I didn’t even know it was in production until then!
How were wanzers built in FME?

That's 2 for 2 now, david! And I foresee it won't be the last haha
Sure hope this comes to steam ;o
Missed----Missed----Missed---Missed---Missed---Hit 14---Missed-Missed---Missed
That old school experience!
After front mission that was my second best game of that era i would love to see a remake of legend of dragoon
Jeez yet another title in the genre! I’m still looking forward to Advance Wars which evidently I had to preorder again.. Nonetheless this one looks quite interesting too..
Are you thinking of picking it up?
@@BacklogBattle I dunno maybe in the future.. But at this point the backlog is probably the biggest it’s ever been..
The one thing I gotta disagree with is that the switch is what's making the cutscenes chug. Like games like Dragonquest 11 and xenoblade 3 run just fine, I think this game just isnt optimized all that well
Not saying that it can’t be done, but rather the developer overreached with their skill set
Excellent, thorough review as always. Thanks!
You’re welcome!
Sounds like I need to keep waiting until a ps5/4 release... Why is this exclusive???
I would love FM3 with some real next-gen graphics on pc or ps5
I'm kind of surprised this didn't get a mobile release given that it looks like a mobile game
This won’t run on mobile, especially with the performance issues I mentioned

Yoiu chose a great tune from the game, as background music for this video.
Thanks! I put a lot of thought into the songs I use in my vids 😉
@@BacklogBattle I believe you, it goes really well with it. Nice piece on the game too. Roll on Front Mission 2 Remake 🤘
I previously played a fan translation of FM1 then FM3 & 4. have been waiting anxiously for this game since it was announced, and finally played it last night. As I predicted, I love it and have already placed an order for the limited release. That being said, I'll be honest with you: this port, as gorgeous as it seems to me, is ultimately worrisome because imo it * feels * like you're playing an outdated game: mech movement is slow, menus are unrefined and cluttered, cinematic cuts are abrupt, avatars look rough, and most of all, the battle-action sequences seem a little uninspired, etc, to the effect that this looks too much like FM4. It's definitely got a welcome, fresh coat of paint, but the game ultimately appears made for the original, older audiences like myself in mind - - I'm not confident it can compete with the majority of SQE'S more refined and fluid contemporary tactical grid rpgs, or attract younger audiences. Don't get me wrong, I'm obsessed with this release based on the lone fact that it has a second campaign, but in terms of sales alone, I'm afraid it will not be appealing and ultimately limit the momentum to localize and remaster FM3 and possibly 5. Im also super puzzled as to how its limited to the Switch! You can just tell this would shine on pc/Steam.
Is this game only on Nintendo Switch?
Yes
Yeah.... waiting for it to arrive on PC or actual powerful consoles. I guess Nintendo paid some money for it to be only on the Switch for a while (like with Triangle Strategy). Looks great but being only on the Switch (for now) is holding it back.
The outer world looks higher def but oddly the combat looks lower def from the FM3, FM4, and FM5. If you have only played Front Mission 3, emulate Front Mission 4 instead of this game.
7:15 The original DS translation was perfectly fine, it's this remake that ruined it.
I hate Forever Entertainment so much. All of their remakes are cheap as hell and barely an improvement over the originals, if not actually a downgrade. I recommend people skip this remake.
There are reasons for not being able to build you Von-zer before a mission. It would element the need for the shops. these are big heavy machines and doing modification wouldn't be easy to do in the field.
If you’re arguing for realism, then the whole plot itself should be more realistic, which it’s not. I don’t think it’s smart to just be limited by that, as that can interfere with what can make a game better.
By your argument, changing classes from a lancer to one with a mount in Fire Emblem isn’t realistic given that they’d have to bring extra mounts just in case people needed them.
Urghh I hated it how they make wanzers look like toys! The grass are same level as wanzers foot.
Fm3 remake please make everything like fm4, it feels like giant robots fighting, not toys like this
The fan translation is far superior. It was also just flat out used for the DS version. Oddly the name of the Mercenary company you lead in the OCU campaign changed from "Carrion Crow" to "Canyon Crows" the original name honestly was a far cooler name for a Mercenary company. Carrion tended to refer to scavenger animals that consumed the bodies after a battle. The original fan translation pretty much made your Mercenary company sound like Death incarnate.
The retcon is straight up. "Pick a random type of geography and a random Animal."
Other details I noticed are changes to the tone. In the fan translation Lloyd threatens to shoot Sakata. In the first Mission for talking out of line. With the first visual of the airfield being a Wanzer aiming it's gun at the cockpit of a landed jet. In the remake the weapon is tilted up so it's not implied to being aimed at the cockpit of an aircraft.
Honestly the fan translation is far superior it's kinda sad.
Thanks for letting me know. Maybe you can shed some light onto something else I’m curious about.
Roughly 3-4 people in the comments claim to have played Front Mission 1st - translated - on their SNES. Do you happen to know anything about that? I don’t ever recall seeing the game for sale in the US or Europe for that platform, but these people insist that they have. Makes me think those were bootlegs.
@@BacklogBattle Not sure if anyone else has mentioned this, but the SNES original is simply titled "Front Mission."
1st was a Playstation remaster that released in Japan years later. To add to the confusion, Front Mission on the DS was a port / remaster of 1st from the Playstation, not the original SNES title.
So, this Switch game is a remake of a Playstation game, not the SNES title.
I hope that helps!
@@BacklogBattle the snes rom was fan translated. And the translation patch was so high quality people assumed it was done in house proper.
@@martymcfly8535 It's interesting because these people insist that they played it on a SNES, but there's no record of that actually happening.
@@BacklogBattle as for the DS version. The only difference between that and the fan translation snes rom was Carrion Crow was changed to Canyon Crows. This is why I and others suspected that they just flat out used the fan translation instead of doing it themselves. Both the ROM and DS cartridge have Lyod saying. "Open your useless mouth during operations again and you'll be shot."
I am not paraphrasing either. It's heavily implied your character was broken a bit by the loss of his fiance and became less cold and by the book as a result.
As for Natalie's wierd line regarding the blown up hospital. In the fan translation she is comforting your character and says she believes she (the fiance) knows he loved her.
My theory. And this is just a theory mind you that the devs done ret cons and hired a cheap translator at the same time. The same fan also translated Gun Hazard so Yeah I'd recommend both game ROMs.

@@katet1948 Bruh... thank you so much :D I was about to pass on this game if it was digital only.
FM 3 plzzz.
Face reveal when
Watch my newest videos and see for yourself!
Personally, this game is a travesty. In the original, when a character activates a skill, the screen gets darker for a second, they removed that for no reason.
When you activate double, in the original the character would just punch with one hand, then punch with the other, but now they rush forward, punch, move back, rush forward to punch again.
No voice acting at all.
Portraits look the same.
I feel like 3 guys can fire up Unreal Engine and make a better remake. Screw this.
The first game was one of the first Tactical RPGs I've ever played. It hurts having them "remake" it just for it to be a parody of itself. Disgraceful.
Just seen this 3 is better, n 4 is the best hands down. Should have remake 4 🤔
So many people are reminding me that I own 4 and it's in my backlog LOL
I'll be waiting for a pc/xbox/ps port. If that doesn't happen there is always emulators. Dumb decision to only release on Swithc to be honest.
Tried this game out and I have to say it's a bit disappointing so far. Everything is obscenely RNG, customization is minimal, and the actual tactics are very basic. I'd rather replay Ring of Red, now there's a game that could use a re-release.
That's kind of the crack in its crown. While the graphics were remade from the ground up, the gameplay is practically the same as the old SNES/DS version, for better or worse.
you mean square enix's robot fire enblem
Besides the fact that their both tactical RPGs, I don't really get the comparison here. FM doesn't have a triangle advantage system, nor romance/pairing options.
@@allthatishere lol its the tactical rpg bit
Those oafs not only botched the release behind Tactics Ogre but they got the main character's name wrong. Ryod?
Royd is, in fact, his real name. This is reflected in the 2007 release as well and every subsequent Front Mission that references him.
@@BacklogBattle play the original SNES release.
@@chrislee326 you mean the fan translated one that’s not official? I’m aware they changed it to Lloyd.
Also, the original SNES release doesn’t exist, as it was only released on the SFC in Japan.

@@BacklogBattle It does exist. I own it. Take a look at the wiki too. His name is Lloyd Clive. Just sucks they didn't remake the original. I would have been happy with just a port of the SNES version.
Just picked it up. I had the DS version I got from my time in the Philippines. I gotta have my robots.
Nice! I hope you enjoy it!
I have only heard good things about this series. Mechs and Tactics for the win
