I feel like I complained a bunch, but its outta love. If there's a remake, it should be done right :/ really hope they put more time into it & on release it will be better. side note : follow me on X if u want some updates on stuff im doin here & there. startin soon :P twitter.com/TheFaizyr
I played these games at the same years I don't know if you remember monster rancher 2 form ps1, like fm3 the characters were just small face pictures that blink and move lips a bit, really nice arts but the same basic, mr 3 at ps2 did a great evoluiton looks like a real time anime character, just the head but outside a frame hud, the game itself was worst than ps1 version and mr4 give a better upgrade at graphics but forget the art, I had the same bad feeling when saw new fm3re! But a miracle is impossible all square money is for ff7re, neither ff16 had a close care and love!
I 100% agree with the attacks lacking weight, it was the first thing I noticed. FM3 was the peak when it came to how devastating the attacks looked though later games did water it down even my fav in the series FM5 didn't have as meaty attacks as FM3, though they did do a decent job. I recently did a play through of FM 1,3,4 AND 5 on emulators and I missed those brutal shots with the SMG and shotgun. This remake takes the piss though. I feared when the devs eventually got to FM3 they wouldn't do the combat justice and I was right unfortunately.
@@SEVENTHSIGHN I remember last play at epsxe fm3 after a rofupIII with mg the emulator sound broke, had played five games before by months but in fm3 was heavy! like the video said the impact the heavy is all missing.
i really love the game, played FM3 thousands of hours in total and i agree with you on the video.. also the attack animation are so clunky, awkward 😂😂 and the gun SFX kinda off to me.. the 3D model, eughh no way...
This 👆. If they could remake Star Ocean, Live A Live, Super Mario RPG and Trials of Mana properly, SO can they with the first three Front Mission games. I think the fanbase of these games just are just the same in numbers. Heck they even made Live A Live remake that had no western release for nearly 25 years and it surpassed the original sales. Let alone Front Mission 1 and 3 that are fairly known in the JRPG community.
@@EmmaKlamsky Square Enix seems to hate the Front Mission franchise with these decisions. I can actually forgive Left Alive now because it actually had effort. It just fell short on scriptwriting, time and budget. But outsourcing the remake trilogy to a cheap studio abroad is injustice instead of remaking it themselves or outsourcing it to a good Japanese studio. Its just sad.
remember when you had angry for somethings that front mission 5 skiped from fm3, like eject and better simulator skill learning... now things turns nooooooooooooooo!
@@jonathanj.3695 ahah sorry I'm from brazil, but is this I remember moments of missing fm3 details missing on 5 like eject, how some enemies looks dumb stupid waiting to die cause they don't surrender, and now new fm3 need basic things from fm5 ahah!
Game dev here. There's no excuse for the lousy attack animation whatsoever. The technical advancement has gone so far from the PS1 era but those damaged animations look worse than most of the indie games this day. This smells more incompetency from the dev side than anything.
Laziness and incompetency. The developers clearly didn't care about this project and just quickly pushed it out the door with the attitude of ehh..the fans will still buy it regardless why put in the extra effort to make this quality.
Just laziness. All three of these "remakes" (they're not remakes) were outsourced to an independent studio to keep costs down and this is the sad result.
Plus the camera angles. They were incredibly dynamic in the orginal, changing based on attacks and what's galleon, zooming in and out and shaking with hits.
I can forgive the PS3-level assets because the game is running on the Switch, but the animations have to at least look solid. They need recoil, hitstop, and impact.
FM3 is one of my top 5 Playstation games of all time. I still play it to this day. We reached a point were every "remake" announcement instantly feels like a upcoming disappointment
It's sad that that Square didn't do much to this series in the recent years. It's pretty clear at this point that they're just trying to cash in nostalgia rather than making proper remakes for this series. I kinda wished they gave the license to someone that cared instead of doing these botched remakes like this. I'll probably just wait for Kriegsfront rather than play this.
I dont mind with no voice actor, The wanzer animation though, its a huge deal breaker for me. FM 3 Wanzer animation was insanely cool back then, this just regress things so badly.
Yes i hope they focus on animation all aspect no exception, because this small dev will split focus, need more time and need more money if they adding VA
yeah at the moment it's kind of a disgrace :/ I really hope us yelling at them will make em take more time & actually make it better. but who knows huh?
After the remakes by Forever Entertainment, I forgaveLeft Alive even though it was a disaster of a game because it actually had a bit of effort. This one is just straight disrespect and blasphemy
Bro, Front Mission 3 is also one of my favorite games of all time! I was really looking forward to its remake the moment I heard that FM1 was getting one But looking at the demo so far, I can only feel the pain of false hope.. Specially when Ryogo here couldn't even do this "Thumbs Down" pose
It makes me happy that the consumers and fans of FM3 are not just blindly accepting these failures now and actually complaining, not just me and a few. I wish fans of FM1 and FM2 would've roasted the bad animations of their remakes as well in the past. I'm just hoping Square would redeem this by actually making the 1,2 and 3 remakes themselves. Because me, a big fan of the franchise would actually pay more as long as they are done justice. Edit: and no sirs and madame, the music isn't even remotely good like what others claim. The instruments used in these remakes are just obnoxiously loud and is just all over the place that it doesn't even fit the mood of the song. The Stage End theme 1, they added a brass layer and having it play an octave higher and added a flute in it like wtf? It lost its militaristic mood because of that. Sustained notes and reverbed instruments are made shorter like a saxophonist short on air. Listen to the "City (Japan)" the synth choir instruments on the verses and chorus are changed into some organ synth sht that it does not sound relaxing anymore. I could go on and on the final product, all of this are probably gonna sound like a generic midi ringtone. The music is important on this game because its an integral part on setting the mood of the scenarios happening on it and The original had objectively made it perfect as is. IDK what the developers are smoking. I have no hope for this game. They say its a demo already, not beta not alpha.
100% this. personally I've seen this stuff over & over. but there's usually not enough noise about this stuff, getting up & atleast talking about it might shift the tide eventually. I hope atleast. :/
They deleted the old trailer, thinking that all the bad comments were from Russians, because we have a lot of fans in this game, they posted a new trailer with music and blocked viewing for Russians, but still they received criticism and negative comments, I really hope that SE will understand these disadvantages and they will do something: expand the budget, delay the release of the game and do something to make the remake worthy of the original
In fact, there was no excuse not to use the High Quality Original Soundtrack. Those Discs Sound Good but they were compressed for the PSone Version. They could have used it as a base or at least if they follow the theme of the 1st and 2nd ones, they would have given us the option to use the Original version. However, I swear on my life that I will create Mods both Graphically and to Restore the original OST when the Video Game comes out.
Ironically also on the tgs, Kriegsfront tactics (a front mission inspired indie game mind you) looks better than the actual front mission. Kriegsfront looks like what modern front mission game should have been. Like seriously though, if you haven't play the free demo "Kriegsfront tactics prologue" i recommend you to try it.
Thank goodness that this video has more views now than the actual demo video as of this writing which is good news so that the criticisms would reach Forever Entertainment so they'd actually put the effort to make the game properly.
That's funny. Hey maybe they'll see it but who knows. Trying to critique stuff like this before the game is made is also a challenge, in cases like this especially where I'm trying to see the perspective of OG and potential new fans of the series.
I really and vehemently disagree with art and portraits opinion. While it was mediocre job at rebrushing them, I am happy they decided to keep original art intact. Portraits are made by Akihiro Yamada, legend. And they are treasure to be preserved. I do agree with wanzers tho. They lost all weight in their movement, and while I can understand change in their looks, it was BECAUSE they were modernised to recent established lore and design. Which is crying shame because they missed opportunity to just label older models old. That way they could just update design to current modern standard as new version etc.
Fm1 and 2 remakes had horrible animations too... Meanwhile fm5 makes these remakes look like a joke. This is what happens when you let a outside studio handle making the game ahaha
I say Square chose the wrong studio. They also released some good outsourced games from their catalog recently but they're still mostly japanese studios. I'm just bewildered on why they approved on this studio when there is supposed to be a screening by looking at the studio's portfolio. Forever Entertainment's games are primarily novelty games and their "big" game remake like Panzer Dragoon isn't good either. They should've stopped with that. They should've instead outsourced it to the guys that made the Front Mission Borderscape. Forever Entertainment must've been cheap. that's why the pressed on with it.
@@KitbyAkida yeah that sounds bout right lol. I forget sometimes that there were a few good outside studios. Quite sad to see a series I like get butchered like this lol
What's even more alarming to me is they were ok with showing FM3 remake in this state that it's in.. clearly they felt like the game was good enough in their minds since they were ok to show us this. When they first announced FM3 remake, I was so excited.. as FM3 was a huge jump from the previous FM games and left me wanting even more from this series. However after seeing what they're doing with this remake.. I no longer have any interest.
The cutscenes look great. All they need to do is copy the original with upscaled and more detailed 3D and I'll be happy. Changing the battle animations to whatever the hell that is though... yeesh.
I keep saying why couldn't they just look at Front mission 5/4, and "vastly" improve the look and the animations/detail of the wanzer's, scale it up to 2024 standards. Then put that into this remake with considerations and care. Again I think this just a quick cash grab game for them, so whatever.
I would preffer a real quick cash by they just send the original game to psn store, this upgrade still burn lots of money to be done waiting too much sales!
For Voice Acting, it's something expensive to do (even with companies criminally underpaying VAs), and with such a text heavy game, it'd cost a lot. I look to a text-heavy series called the Trails series that due to costs, sometimes has "half"/"partial" voice acting in some scenes due to costs and the sheer amount of text. As for FM3 itself...I've put hundreds of hours into this game since I first got it in 2000, and agree only XCOM/XCOM2 really scratches the itch. I saw these Remake clips and thought "what have they done to you?".
IMO, there's a bit of irony in that Kazuki's victory animation actually feels a bit weightier compared to the original cause we get a bit of recoiling and inertia from the Wanzer moving (ie the Wanzer's frame shaking slightly when it stomped forward and spread its arms out), yet none of this weightiness and inertia is present in any of the more common combat animations. Almost seems like the animations are works-in-progress Even Ryogo's victory animation looks incomplete, he doesn't turn his gun sideways and upside-down like a gangster like he does in the original game.
This is one of the games that I absolutely fell in love with, and this game actually helped me learn to love and appreciate turn based combat, especially because of the short cutscenes where an arm would fly off or something to that extent! if the graphics and animations are going to be downgraded like that and not true to the old game, I’d rather play the original on the old PlayStation or on an emulator…😢
I agree with a lot of this. Its the animations and sound effects I have the biggest issue with by far. I have to say though I am in the minority in that I do actually love how the wanzers look in this remake. I prefer their remake design over OG. Music is also great. I dont mind the lack of voice acting in the slightest personally but I get its a big deal for many, REALLY hope they improve these wonky animations and sound effects. Its by far the biggest problem here. Really really poor placeholder looking shooting and punching animations. They need to have those enemy turrets recoil back with the shots too. Cmon.
I can get past the graphics and the wanzer proportions, but those animations are abomination, who ever was in charge of those should just start doing cocomelon career holy shit.
The animations in FM2 REMAKE were better than what we've seen of FM3 Remake. WHAT THE HECK HAPPENED?! I was looking forward to this remake, but now I'm worried.
What's worse about the melee is that in OGFM3, FM4 and FM5 you can see the wanzers full send their strikes. It makes sense in context too, the heavier and more power a wanzer has ups the damage of melee.
FM3 is a great part of my childhood, it was my introduction to RPG/turn based games that i widely enjoyed as a kid. I was so excited when the remake was announced that i'd check every week if there was any news of the release and after seeing the trailer i was genuinely devastated. I'm pretty sure they just upscaled and simulated everything using AI and did nothing new, while the intro cutscene looks cool it also looks a bit too faithful to the original, the animation is wonky and too robotic, wanzers are supposed to be flexible machines now they look like they are trying to break dance. I really hope they take the backlash and rethink this but i have 0 faith thb. Great vid btw, i can feel you got as disappointed as i got so i feel you man lol.
3:30 The Shunyo's original design always make me think of the mole rat, due to its snout, and it especially reminds me of Bakuryu from Bloody Roar's transformation. I dunno what the remake's design looks like. 4:50 Man, what is that bitch slap? Where's the punch? 5:35 That walking animation looks awfully slow. 5:45 That punching animation feels... so floaty. Overall, this kinda looks like some cheap Chinese game with wowzer graphics but the everything else is garbage. Don't get me wrong, I played the original game and I loved it, but this remake looks like garbage to me, at least for now. Let's hope they can fix it.
1999 - Tech limitations 2024 - Laziness But in all seriousness, if they allow a game from 1999 to be better than that of 2024. They should be ashamed. From what I've heard they are a rookie team of Devs. And Whilst they were OK with FM1 and FM2 remakes, I think FM3 is bit too much for them to handle.
i was looking forward to this remake, how could they have screwed this up. time to emulate the original with as many graphics enhancements I can gather.
Seems to be that the recent demo has opened many anticipating paying customers' eyes to the horror show of each of their fears becoming realized concerning the remake of FM3. After going through forums and video comment sections of various outlets, it seems that the culmination of issues that customers-in-waiting require ample immediate remediation are as follows: 1. Dialogue text sound existence, the fact that it exists is problematic to countless demo watchers. 2a. Combat choreography: character model fall animations do not seem to exist aside from a quick fall back and disintegration which lacks the authentic impacts for the action momentum. 2b. Screen choreography: character models are not provided the optimized camera angles, rotations, ques from moment to moment for camera transitions in an action sequence. 2c. Impact: Individual shots and swings no longer have any noticeable flinching, sway, recoil, and no FM3-famous explosive gunshots as per the machine guns, shotguns and other armaments for wanzers. 2d. Weight of force: No noticeable appreciation for weight of a wanzers and it's impacts on terrain or in combat, not even an adjustment to have different weight classes was implemented. All seems weightless. 3. Animations: No bracing for hip fire and an over-stiff gunfire animation was used that caused most gamers watching the demo to panic and fear the worst for the game, a bad indicator for sales. Character models seemed to lack not only in combat animation but in nuances noticed by various players that gave the game a more bland presentation overall. 4. Sound: footsteps of wanzers were not very noticeable and seemed bizarrely soft. Again, this reflects poor realization of physics concerning weight. Conclusion: players/would-be players are currently UNINTERESTED in this remake due to each of these glaring faults. Other faults do exist and were noted, but strict oversight over dev team to fix these main issues carefully will retain value and customers. Various have already said this. It is truly annoying. Topping the list for players is ... typing sound existence, ... Despicably bad animations, ... Horrendously bad defeat sequences and animations, ... No force of impact in combat, not even the traditional FM3 exploding gunshots, ... No flinching character models, ... Combat camera choreography is practically non-existent, ... Character portraits were not changed to be more cool, ... Combat sounds are super soft. But for a more positive outlook, perhaps certain things can be added if they also fix all that mess. And this is going to be more of a non-critical suggestion section below to add into the game: When a player finishes the last level and does the final game save, they should be able to.... 1. Keep all parts and wanzers they themselves check in a check-box list and the rest are automatically sold. 2. They unlock a cheat menu that includes a toggle option for ZERO weight on all parts. 3. Player unlocks toggle that changes each character's portrait image to newer much more modified variants (up to 2 or 3 alternatives and they can be individually set on or off per character previously encountered). 4. Unlocks a new game mode called "Multiplayer" to go online or local to contend against other player wanzers. 4a. Players can choose in Multiplayer to select a map and fight as a guest main character using their own custom wanzers against another player, each with the ability to field 1-4 units. 4b. Players can choose a Multiplayer mode that enables usage of their own super units or unique appearance units. 5. Unlocks the ability to go through a new playthrough and KEEP super units, unique appearance units and vehicles. 6. Unlocks a quadrupled vehicle roster with many slots. 7. Unlocks leaderboards with stats like playthroughs, Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, max skill ranks, skills unlocked, Wanzers types acquired, etc. 8. Unlocks an online "Pilot's Gallery" found in Leaderboards consisting of Wanzer builds that can be viewed if another player clicks on your profile and selects "Pilot's Gallery." 9. New weapon able to be earned in new playthrough that is a beam machinegun. Also, a sword that is a hilt exuding intense fire - a pure fire sword! And a beam-based melee weapon like a beam tonfa or something.
This is superb justification and insight. Checklist checks out. The only thing left to do is perhaps submit this to Square Enix so that they'd actually do the remakes themselves. Because I have no hope for Forever Entertainment that they'd be able to apply these until release. Unless they concede to these criticisms, delay the release and actually put in the effort to fix all of that. Let alone add the suggested new features.
Something is really, really wrong in the modern gaming industry man, especially when they trying to remake legendary games to fit the modern space. FM3 is one of my favorite of all time, and they remake it to this hot pile of crap. Why don't they just use the original sfx and animation and tweak it a bit? The OG is as perfect as it was, and still is. Just rework the visual and smoothen things up and you'd get an actual upgrade instead of this embarrassment. That SMG shooting stance, and the awkward melee slap is probably the most ridiculous thing in this whole demo. C'mon devs, you know you can do this right...
The machine gun sounds awful, the shotgun sounds way too soft. In OG fm3 you can hear that DADADADADADADADADADA from the machine gun. I literally typed that knowingly that it’s 10 shots because that OG MGun sounds have been drilled in my head. And those JINK sounds from the shotgun when you hit a non-anti-I user. Or just a soft POW when you hit anti-i Not to mention when there’s broken parts, the sounds of the sparks were so loud that you knew something was broken. Can’t even hear the robot’s whiffing sounds when they move. The knuckle sound is nonexistent and animation has no collision and just looks wonky. Quite disappointed with the shunyo model too. The shunyo looked like a wolf in the original. The movement as well, why is he skating on level 1? And where are the loud thuds when they’re stomping into position? And what’s with ryogo’s kill animation? He normally thumbs down but he just stands there. The OG fm3. Has wanzers even take a step back before firing. . Here, it’s barely noticeable.
I played FM1 a lot on the original SNES and also tried the remake and was very disappointed. I have no idea why they thought slowing down the pace of animations from quick, smooth, snappy robotic motions into some weird slow sloggish animations was a good idea. The fact that they replaced the original sharp sounds of menus and the mechanical SE to something completely different (not even a remaster attempt) was very confusing and the new sounds are worse in every way. They even didn't have the "Thank you" from buying at the shop which is kind of iconic. When you launch the Donkey Missile and impact with it in the original game, it has such an amazing feel with devastating impact through the sounds and flashes, and everything in FM1R felt lacking comparatively. Looking at the footage, while I do see some parts improved from 1R and 2R, it still looks like a far stride from what the original was.
I loved Front Mission 4 on PS2 so when I saw all these remakes of 1-3 coming out I was so excited but sadly they have dropped the ball on these amazing games and series. I wish they put more effort into these remakes to bring new life and fans to the series and continue into new sequels.
All I remember from FM3 was the older blonde bearded guy with the rocket launcher was beast and the main character became insufferable towards the end of the game. I agree 100% about the animations. The impact of attacks were my absolute favorite part of the game. It never got old.
Old blonde bearded guy with a rocket launcher? Uh...there's no party member who fits that description in the game. Even if you mean Marcus (who I think might be blonde), he's a melee user, so...not somebody you'd be sticking a Missile or Grenade Launcher on. Actually, I don't even think he has a beard.
@@SpanishFly120 You may be right. Maybe I'm thinking about FM4 when it comes to him. Maybe Zead Elger. It may be Marcus and I Equip one of them with rockets. It's been 25 years so I mainly remember feelings about these game, not specifics. Probably time for another playthrough.
What the FUCK are those attack animations?!?! I don't even WANT to know how 6 ROFUPI, the coolest attack animation combo in the game will feel like in the remake.
Agreed on everything you say here. Front Mission 3 feels like it was made by arcade developers, sound effects and all of the vfx animations and impacts, square really loved those little details that make it so nostalgic for me now. I remember playing for the first time and I specifically was amused at the sound effect when you level weapon skills, it could pass as a machine gun sound effect from metal slug. In the remake its completely absent for some reason lol, and now the leveling popup feels completely lifeless and pointless. I think the devs haven't really thought out what made the game tick. The UI would do well with some texturing as well, which is another square staple, gave the menus so much charm. Portraits too would be better with nearest neighbour scaling instead tbh
"Two unique storylines based on early decisions" You mean "one decision." Either go with Ryogo after the tutorial when he asks, don't go with Ryogo when he asks, that's literally what determines what path you follow throughout the game.
Even reusing the animation assets in FM2 remake wouldn't make it such bad, and the square shape of Shunyo looks like a rush work. I'm quite curious about how bad their progress management is that they could only make this thing for TGS. A comment here said it was caused by missmanagement and I think that's true. I would appreciate anyone who can investigate that and share their discovery.
I will absolutely agree the game preview we were given looks rough. I'm hoping that we were seeing a slightly older build that hadn't been polished as much and what we get at the end of November will be improved over it. I don't think I have as many issues with the Remake as others do. The art, Wanzer designs, etc don't really bother me and I think they look good. In contrast the animations definitely look as if they were in a rough spot. I'm really looking forward to this game as it was my first introduction to Front Mission.
Couldn’t agree more with your critique. The developers clearly did not understand how the sound design combined with the animations made this game so memorable for us. Glad to hear the remake version of the OST is solid at least. Really curious to hear the imaginary number track. That music was so epic.
FM3 Remake is definitely not made for any FM fans as it's objectively the worst version between the original PS1 release and the Remake. The main issue is the devs pretty much imported the assets from the previous Remake games and cobbled up everything else fore FM3 Remake making everything you mentioned completely miss the mark like Wanzer models, idle stance, battle stance and etc. All the battle animations are wrong because they're based off FM 1st Remake and FM2 Remake's quick and emotionless/weightless battles. Absolutely agree with the lack of voice overs being really disappointing, this is probably one of the first Front Mission games to veer off off course as most of the party are not military professionals but a rag tag bunch of civilians so having VOs would have been my number 1 suggestion for this remake...The plot is so sooo Gundam (ZZ)-like too!
Looking at all the other remakes from this studio, I expect little to no changes when this releases. How many remakes already and the animations still look this bad?
The altered designs, pathetic physics and lack of voice acting are baffling. Personally, I'd have taken a straight PC port of the original. But I recognize that remakes are made for a reason and that reason is to get more fans so the company can make more money. This just makes FM3 look like it was always crap, it's a waste of time and money all round.
UNTIL I saw the animations, I was like; ”uh huh, uh huh, I kinda agree with you but it doesn’t look that* bad..”. Then I saw the animations; and sweet mecha Jesus! That.. that looks horrible. It’s like animated toys or something (in a very bad way). And those animations for me and many others are the very heart of the game if you think about it. Man what a disappoinent. PS! This is not a ”free-roaming” game where the player steers the mech in a fully 3D environment (is it?) and the animations are kinda like ”pre determined set pieces”. That’s why; I hope the devs would re-do the animations to give them more weight and sense of speed, power and awe. But it’s not lkely at all, is it? :(
nah, , you move on a square grid, some maps are huge tho & you get plenty of freedom on how to move. there's also sections in the game where you get the choose where to go which leads to different outcomes which is cool. hope they redo the animations aswell :/ its kinda the Bread of the game.
Finally someone with the same sentiments. This is correct. Borderscape which is sadly a gacha game objectively has better animations and wanzer designs than this.
Oh god, I was so excited to wait for this remake, my most favorite game of all time, I've finished it countless times, your video make me Sad, deeply saddened, because you have pointed out the reasons why my ultimate fear could become reality, which is that the remake will hurt the original game, but I will still buy it though when its on PC. I am just hoping that they will still add the massive contents and depth that the original game had to the remake, I want to search the in-game internet for information and hidden unlockables for hours again! just like with the original. Thnks, great video.
If they were modernize the game like FF7R. Add proper cutscenes (not in visual novel style as OG is) and 3D models. Add voice acting. The game would be truly epic.
FM3 is my no 1 game on PSX. Beating Legend of Mana and Harvest Moon: Back to Nature. For a long time I wanted to see this game with modern graphics. When I clicked the video seeing the title and that FM3 will have a remake I was happy and confused because of "disappointing" in the title. Now I am also disappointed. Cant believe they are not actually "REMAKING IT". Wanzers should still have the same "shapes" (for the lack of better term). I'm 100% agree with you. Missed opportunity. No voice acting, terrible gun play it feels like some "pee-shooter"... I am so disappointed and it is not even out yet... I will just stick to the original... I even shipped FM4 from US when it came out because it was released only in NTSC. Same thing with FM5 but from Japan...
I played and re-played Front Mission 3 a lot, it's my favorite PS1 game. When i saw remake, i thought it's gonna be something new and cool. I like how they made new mix for Front Mission 3's music, but how they re-designed wanzers, clunky animations during battle, it's awful, like someone spray painted on Mona Lisa.
as long they add more to the animations of battle, story and main points are there without much censorship. Ive never gotten to play this one, so heres hoping theres not too many Gameplay Breaking Bugs or exploits like in 2nd Remake with the Infinite ammo bug.
I don't agree on the Prototype Wanzer design, it is the same design. It's just that the pushed the head backward instead of forward like in OG FM3. That's the difference that's bothering you with it, it makes it look bulkier than the original despite that their proportions are equal. Fully agree on the combat though. And art.
You know what? I'm still gonna buy it. I want to support these guys, and these games. The last front mission (evolved).... yeah, not great. An effort to get close, to try and capture that same spark, is good enough for me. A 7 out of 10, thats still okay. I mean, RPGfan gave it an 8 out of 10 back in 2000. That said, they need to fix the animations FOR SURE lol. But as for two generations? Yeah, you can blame the Switch for that, which this needs to run at. Its the lowest common denominator, sadly.
This fucking gem of a geme deserved a real fucking remake that would make us cry of nostalgia. Not this pice of shit.Dont give ur hard earned cash for this pice of shit remake.
Front Mission 3 is one of the few PS1 games I decided to keep. It was great tactical rpg. The original Wanzer design was superb industrial design. Its pity the remake is taking several steps back and not forward. I only hope the developers take on board the criticism of the demo and make changes before the release ...but I doubt it
This is truly sad. I thought they can make it like the Front mission 5 scars of war but it seems that they just reskinned the resources, and worst the combat, it's God awful and I defenitely agreed with you anout how impactful the original was. Truly sadening.
Im right there with you Faiz, as FM3 is my favorite tactical game of all time. Even over FFT and TO, FM3 Just OOZES Style. The animations, which were never carried over to the other games, (And I believe was a reason they sold poorly) is just boring, especially FM4. Im old enough to remember playing with action figures as a child and setting them all up in dramatic action poses fighting each other. The reactions to hits taken and sliding into combat before firing rounds, makes FM3 so special, reigniting that childlike excitement for the dramatic action scenes I saw in my head with my toys. Im still gonna get this game, dont get me wrong, but heres hoping the tag team special attacks really show some style, where as the normal action seems lacking atm.
I was really excited about the FM3 remake. I’ve spent countless hours playing that game, replaying it more than 20 times. I even completed it with all platinum medals and was eager to dive back in when the remake came out. But this... it's a total disaster and a huge disappointment. I’d be happy if they simply let me run the original FM3 without needing an emulator-that’s all I want. Just give me the original version, running natively on PC or on Switch, and I’d buy it at any price. But as it stands now, it's a hard pass for me. I could overlook the graphics, but those animations? Unforgivable. It seems like a good time to download a PS1 emulator again. Thanks for the video - it's really heartwarming to know I’m not alone in my love for this game and my disappointment with the remake.
Agree. It would be better if they use front mission 5 design & game mechanic instead. Like : Team Coordination & positioning. FM5 had a better wanzer design
I feel that they were actually trying to do FM5 style to the animation but they just failed big time. Look at the way the wanzers walk. It would almost look right like how wanzers walk on FM4 and FM5 if the shoulders weren't swaying up and down too much like flapping papers. And the way that b*tch slap melee punch as if it were attempting to do an inward swipe very much like FM5. Also fail. The plausible scenario I could think of on this matter is the person rigging the walk cycle actually knew what they were doing and suggested improvements to the lead animator/art director. But the heads were so full of themselves and couldn't accept suggestions from the lowlifes and went on with what they had in mind. So they demoted or fired the guy lmaoooo. Because man, I just can't believe they terribly did the animations even though there are a ton of references In-game and can also be found on the internet so even if you're a lazy bum animator but still know what you are doing, you'd still come up with something somewhat decent. So I think this is just ineptitude.
The attack animation feels ughhh. If they keep this up, the attacks with skill activation would prolly look bad. How are they gonna execute dbl assault? ROFUP? I hope they improve the attack animation. The wanzers looks fine and bearable but the experience here is the story and the battle animations. Even if it makes the battle longer, I still love watching it because it looks good and executed properly in the original
5:10 The look of the wanzer beeing an insult asside... god this is a war crime... why.... even tho the first two felt quite like good remakes... but this? I feel insulted and trempled...
FM3 is one of the SRPG all time greats for sure and I will be playing it again on release. Have to agree with you on the battle animations being very poor looking compared to the original. I understand VA work can be expensive so I wasn't expecting that. My gut feeling with these remakes is that no-one is buying them. I haven't seen any coverage or interest on youtube and they are on sale a lot of the time on the Nintendo Eshop.
Holy shit they took away the spirit of the original game. I hope that some really avid fans rip open the remake data and make a massive overhaul mods. I'd help if there is a group that will. I don't have technical expertise but I'd help in other things like inputting data onto a sheet or whatever.
Not to mention the transition from field to battle was seamless in the original FM3, while in the remake you have a black screen. Man the camera work and animations are just wrong on every level
As atrocious as the animations look,Im more afraid of what they will do to the fake-net considering the UI design. That was such a fantastic little timecapsule, reeking of ye´old Geocities and Angelfire, any kind of change is going to completely ruin the vibe.
Favorite turn based that's set a bar so high that very few turn based games can match. It's a great game because the storyline is excellent, I prefer Alisa mode because I like the party and the storyline that you go through in that path more, but the game itself has very little depth. It can be argued that there isn't a single great game in the Front Mission franchise minus storyline that's been released in the west. I say released in the west because a lot of praise is thrown around towards Front Mission 5, and whether that's one of the "the best games you've never played" which is a condescending phrase I use, or whether the game is actually great. Front Mission 3 is simply equip your left or right hand with a single weapon, the shotgun, machine gun, etc, equip your right hand with a shield. Even though the fist is one of the worst weapons since you always go last, I still always use Kazuki as my fist character and everyone else I either give a shotgun while one character has a rfile. Shotguns have one less range than machine guns and ranged weapon enemies only use machine guns, so there's no way you're going to be out of their range with anything other than the sniper. But, have shield equipped, any attack you take use the shield, any attack you deal, use the shotgun. You'll continue leveling up with that single weapon, and that's the weapon that will deal significantly more damage than everything else. Using multiple weapons just makes you weaker and there's no strategy to it since you can't outrange a machine gun with anything but rifles and rockets, so it's pointless. The shield basically means you don't even have to consider a loss, not going to happen. If you think a Front Mission has so much depth for turn based RPGs that nothing comes close except for XCOM, I guess you just haven't played many turn based TRPGs.
Man... and I was looking forward to this too. 3 was my first FM and my second favorite after 5. I guess I'll stick to emulating the PS1 then. At least it has its own charm despite the janky PS1 graphic. Now you get to see the jank in HD and it's just off putting, not to mention the animations, ugh... Like what the hell is wrong with that Ryogo victory animation? Where's the thumb down? Where's the personality?! They're gonna ruin my boy Linny aren't they?
There's something that i want to said, echoing some comment on the og video, they change Ryogo win pose. the thumbs down pose is iconic to him and they change it. this in turns makes me feel like the censored a lot of stuff hence the combat looks iffy because of the sheer brutality (and dopamine induced). i dunno if this is because platform or what, but i agree with the battle criticism. esp because that's where most of player will be at (looking at you Simulator).
Its an early build, the animations aren't final. I don't need voice acting to have a good time and they don't need to blow the budget on graphics either. The front mission remakes are budget remakes, they are AA games.
I feel like I complained a bunch, but its outta love. If there's a remake, it should be done right :/
really hope they put more time into it & on release it will be better.

Felt the love.
Can you please make a list on which Front mission game to start with.
Front Mission 3 deserves a Star Ocean 2 level remake.
@@jazztheartistWith the history they made in the previous two series, it seems that FM3 will also experience a decrease in quality from the remake
Front Mission 5 from ps2 looks like it's 2 generations ahead of this remake.
remember when you had angry for somethings that front mission 5 skiped from fm3, like eject and better simulator skill learning... now things turns nooooooooooooooo!
@overdalcy Remember when you English was grammaring in the correct but now jumbled mess becomes on it nooooo!
@@jonathanj.3695 ahah sorry I'm from brazil, but is this I remember moments of missing fm3 details missing on 5 like eject, how some enemies looks dumb stupid waiting to die cause they don't surrender, and now new fm3 need basic things from fm5 ahah!
so glad i got the fansub of it, fm5 is really good
It really doesn’t
Game dev here. There's no excuse for the lousy attack animation whatsoever. The technical advancement has gone so far from the PS1 era but those damaged animations look worse than most of the indie games this day. This smells more incompetency from the dev side than anything.
Laziness and incompetency. The developers clearly didn't care about this project and just quickly pushed it out the door with the attitude of ehh..the fans will still buy it regardless why put in the extra effort to make this quality.
I won't buy it unless they fix it.
Quick lazy cashgrab.
I can forgive the PS3-level assets because the game is running on the Switch, but the animations have to at least look solid. They need recoil, hitstop, and impact.
absolutely 100 percent.
for sure, agreed.
hey a lot of switch game much better than that
FM3 is one of my top 5 Playstation games of all time. I still play it to this day. We reached a point were every "remake" announcement instantly feels like a upcoming disappointment
It's like we went from Pacific Rim to Pacific Rim 2
omfg, that made me spill my drink xD
That's literally what it feels like. Completely lost the sense of weight.
They made a sequel??
@@mr.b89 Yes and it was bad
It's sad that that Square didn't do much to this series in the recent years. It's pretty clear at this point that they're just trying to cash in nostalgia rather than making proper remakes for this series. I kinda wished they gave the license to someone that cared instead of doing these botched remakes like this.
I'll probably just wait for Kriegsfront rather than play this.
I dont mind with no voice actor,
The wanzer animation though, its a huge deal breaker for me.
FM 3 Wanzer animation was insanely cool back then, this just regress things so badly.
Yes i hope they focus on animation all aspect no exception, because this small dev will split focus, need more time and need more money if they adding VA
That fact that they could have just upscaled the original without any changes feels more like a remake than this
My friend worked on FM3 remake. He left the studio, said that it was a chaotic shitshow of missmenagement
I am disappointed at how half ass this remake is. Will just stick to the original game.
yeah at the moment it's kind of a disgrace :/ I really hope us yelling at them will make em take more time & actually make it better. but who knows huh?
Square Enix once again demonstrating how far they’re willing to go in stepchilding the Front Mission franchise at every possible opportunity.
After the remakes by Forever Entertainment, I forgaveLeft Alive even though it was a disaster of a game because it actually had a bit of effort. This one is just straight disrespect and blasphemy
Bro, Front Mission 3 is also one of my favorite games of all time!
I was really looking forward to its remake the moment I heard that FM1 was getting one
But looking at the demo so far, I can only feel the pain of false hope..

Like seriously though, if you haven't play the free demo "Kriegsfront tactics prologue" i recommend you to try it.
yee im very excited for kriegsfront!

I have my eye on that too. Just dont have any idea as to when it will be ready, being a small team working on it and all.
*DISAPPOINTING* that they gave us FM1 DLC instead of focusing on the game everyone was looking forward to.
The saddest part is that it's the 'final' result, and I doubt it will ever be properly remastered
Then the developers will say goodbye to sales and the players will brand the game the biggest shame
welp, no money for them
I really and vehemently disagree with art and portraits opinion.
Totally agree with you. Very glad they didn’t re imagine the cutscenes either or add voice dialogue!
@@TheExcarlos It's quite sad It has come to this. "butchered" is an understatement. It's just blasphemy to the franchise at this point.
Changing the battle animations to whatever the hell that is though... yeesh.
hey buddies! let's up this review video so the developers see this, this is my childhood game!
How the hell is voice acting expensive? These companies spend millions of dollars on trash. How much are they paying people just to speak?
IMO, there's a bit of irony in that Kazuki's victory animation actually feels a bit weightier compared to the original cause we get a bit of recoiling and inertia from the Wanzer moving (ie the Wanzer's frame shaking slightly when it stomped forward and spread its arms out), yet none of this weightiness and inertia is present in any of the more common combat animations. Almost seems like the animations are works-in-progress
Even Ryogo's victory animation looks incomplete, he doesn't turn his gun sideways and upside-down like a gangster like he does in the original game.
Cmon.
me too, IDK how you can fck up the sound effects too xD . I was going to talk about it & then forgot completely
Sad to see them just phone it in. Front Mission was such a fantastic series. I'd love it if it came back, but not like that.
1999 - Tech limitations
2024 - Laziness
But in all seriousness, if they allow a game from 1999 to be better than that of 2024. They should be ashamed.
From what I've heard they are a rookie team of Devs. And Whilst they were OK with FM1 and FM2 remakes, I think FM3 is bit too much for them to handle.
yeah man, I genuinely believe tech limitations made Better game developers.

I actually like the models, but same thoughts on the animation and physics.
They don't look impactful at all.
I hope they will polish it a little more before release.

i was looking forward to this remake, how could they have screwed this up. time to emulate the original with as many graphics enhancements I can gather.
Seems to be that the recent demo has opened many anticipating paying customers' eyes to the horror show of each of their fears becoming realized concerning the remake of FM3. After going through forums and video comment sections of various outlets, it seems that the culmination of issues that customers-in-waiting require ample immediate remediation are as follows:
Topping the list for players is
... typing sound existence,
... Despicably bad animations,
... Horrendously bad defeat sequences and animations,
... No force of impact in combat, not even the traditional FM3 exploding gunshots,
... No flinching character models,
... Combat camera choreography is practically non-existent,
... Character portraits were not changed to be more cool,
... Combat sounds are super soft.
But for a more positive outlook, perhaps certain things can be added if they also fix all that mess. And this is going to be more of a non-critical suggestion section below to add into the game:
When a player finishes the last level and does the final game save, they should be able to....
8. Unlocks an online "Pilot's Gallery" found in Leaderboards consisting of Wanzer builds that can be viewed if another player clicks on your profile and selects "Pilot's Gallery."
Or just a soft POW when you hit anti-i
Not to mention when there’s broken parts, the sounds of the sparks were so loud that you knew something was broken.
FM3 is masterpiece on one disk.

At this rate, I rather play the original Front Mission 3. That game is a masterpiece.
I was so excited when i first heard that front mission 3 was getting a remake so when i saw that atrocious looking gameplay demo it broke my heart.
What the FUCK are those attack animations?!?! I don't even WANT to know how 6 ROFUPI, the coolest attack animation combo in the game will feel like in the remake.
the wanzer just standing there holding the machine gun with their arm straight pointed at the target. very much like what you see in that demo 💀.
Heartless cash crab with minimalist effort put into it confirmed
Please dev, takes time don't rush. Just make original with better graphics don't change anything if u want add just add something but don't change
Portraits too would be better with nearest neighbour scaling instead tbh
is there a trailer for 3 remake or gameplay?
That's very fair.
I hope they will take the comments into consideration... I think its not too hard to make animation more alive.
Dissapointing indeed, the graphics I can live with, even the wanzer design changes, but the animations are first-timer indie levels of jank.
This ☝️. But even amateurs with a better understanding of physics could do much better than this
UNTIL I saw the animations, I was like; ”uh huh, uh huh, I kinda agree with you but it doesn’t look that* bad..”.
Mecharashi for the phone which was front mission for phone game looked better than this
Finally someone with the same sentiments. This is correct. Borderscape which is sadly a gacha game objectively has better animations and wanzer designs than this.
@@jazztheartistso much better
husband still plays 3 on ps2
I agree with everything you said. The combat looks really underwhelming. And the fact they didn’t get voice acting, for any of it, is a huge miss.
They should have added back the shaky helicopter mounted camera for more rawness
When will this game be released?I cant wait for it😭😭
I don't agree on the Prototype Wanzer design, it is the same design.
I only hope the developers take on board the criticism of the demo and make changes before the release ...but I doubt it
Of all time? wow, thats saying A LOT :)
yeah man, I absolutely love this game.
Intro cutscene is 1:1 like original.
Music was created by oryginal autor of Soundtrack to FM3. Confirmed info.
You explain what I feel something off about the battle scene. They should improve the battle motion and sound effect on it indeed.
what's bad: Sound and animations, I consider the graphics to be below expectations
Even if they fix everything - buying it for 30$+ is the same as eating manure.
OG is supreme.
You can't change truth.
I'd be happy to play a FM3 setting with FM5 gameplay mechanics though.
Design > Technology
And I don't see any design here.
They don't even bother to re-draw or change the characters' icons/portraits
Ok 😂
Man... and I was looking forward to this too.
I would of preferred a remaster instead
same :(
There's something that i want to said, echoing some comment on the og video, they change Ryogo win pose. the thumbs down pose is iconic to him and they change it.
this in turns makes me feel like the censored a lot of stuff hence the combat looks iffy because of the sheer brutality (and dopamine induced).
i dunno if this is because platform or what, but i agree with the battle criticism. esp because that's where most of player will be at (looking at you Simulator).
Its an early build, the animations aren't final. I don't need voice acting to have a good time and they don't need to blow the budget on graphics either.
The front mission remakes are budget remakes, they are AA games.
