This song in Kannada language praising Lord Shiva, was written by saint Sri Purandaradaasa, who lived in Hampe in Karnataka in 15th century during the prosperous Vijayanagara empire He is known to have laid the firm foundation for the Karnataka ('Carnatic') music upon which later composers such as saint Thyagaraja, Shyama Shastry, and Mutthuswami Deekshitar built a profound repertoire of keertanas.
While there are different versions of this song with slight differences in the wordings, here’s the version that Sri Sandeep Narayan has sung:

I just heard this song from Sandeep Narayan in a concert in Sydney. The song and it's rendition was fantastic. Only comment I want to make is to correct the lyrics. He said 'bhadima,' for Bhasma in the 2nd stanza. Bhadma is ash. Bhasima means nothing.
