@@FirstnameLastname-xw5pb I had a time with ebay....first the card got frozen right off the bat then took them 5days to do a investagation...after the 5 days got an email from them saying investagtion done my money would be on my card that's after sending in pictures of the card the recipt a hand written letter head with the date and ebay user name just to be frozen a second time after getting the confirmation that the first investagation was finished and had to do it all over again!!....finally after almost 2 weeks and 2 investagations for the same card the money was put on my card but ebay said there was only a 7 day window that I would have to use the card before automatically being frozen again for security purposes.....NEVER WILL I BUY OR ACCEPT A EBAY GIFT CARD EVER AGAIN....Hope everything goes well and just keep on them and you will get your money on your card just might take a bit of patience and a headache
they print stickers of the back of the bar code of ebay gift card they have in hand and then go to stores and put that sticker on top of the bar code of cards in the store. So when a customer buys a card, they are actually loading the money on the gift card that the fraudster has. When they scratch the card to see balance, it will say 0 since the customer's card never had any money to begin with. Ebay wont be able to help either since the fraudster would have spent the amount on the card already.

I would attribute it to some sort of security breach like Playstation publicly had. eBay just must have been hush on it as it seemed to only be a major problem for a few months.

Ebay played dumb when I told them that there were missing numbers on the card. They told me to contact the Federal Trade Commission or try to get my money back from the store (Kroger). I went to Kroger and they didn't give me a refund, rather a piece of paper with a phone number. The card was a gift to me from my elderly parents. It's not about the money to me. I could care less, but It bothers me more that I got scammed. Bad business all the way around. No way I'm letting this go. By the way, the Kroger where the gift card was purchased used to be a nice area, now it's super sketchy. If we accept, minimalize or dismiss these problems, America is finished.
is there anything specific i can do to help people who purchase these cards and have the same problem? i work at target at the guest service desk and a guest had the same issue, and there was nothing we could do. she had contracted ebay's customer service but unfortunately, the ebay worker told her that WE would refund her which we absolutely could not do. the chatlog she showed me with customer service had immense spelling and grammar issues as well as that false claim, and i'm wondering if this issue is relating to scammers at all, or, if it was simply a misinformed and slightly less linguistically skilled ebay employee?? anyone know why this is happening?? target cannot fix this issue

eBay is running a scam this happened to me I purchased a 50$ eBay gift card from Walmart then when went to use said it had zero balance called eBay they said the card was frozen due to fraudulent activity wtf and the only way I could use the card was to take a picture of the receipt and gift card also a handwritten note with my eBay username and email it's a total scam I accidentally threw the away receipt besides the point what kinda company freezes their gift cards knowing people give them as gifts it's bullshit

One way is, thieves steal the cards from the store and then copy the numbers and then put the cards back at the store. They wait until someone loads credit onto the cards and they then spend it.

I'm trying to use a eBay gift card. Their own info page on it was false. I had to exit eBay and go through a pile of youtube videos to find out how to use it. You hit the requirement for a PayPal account pop up that goes no-where but invites you to create a PayPal account, but wont because it keeps forcing you to enter a visa or mastercard information instead. So I go to PayPal's own front page to create one. Then I find out PayPal requires a working cell phone number to create an account. No cell phone number? Then you can't get on PayPal. No cell phone, no PayPal. No PayPal no access to your $50 eBay Gift card. You just have a $50 piece of plastic with eBay printed on it to scrape your shoes with. I think eBay Gift cards are a scam. Now I have to go get another $20 temp phone card to set up the PayPal, hope it works, and "if" it does maybe get that stupid $20 item for what will now be $40 because of the extra cost of the phone account I now have to also pay for. Covid has not been kind and I'm hurting to much financially for anymore of this corporate B.S. I don't think I can be much more salty about buying anything online anymore.

In total... it was $650.00 that was taken from me by using ebay gift cards to pay for a so called "budget" rental car. The 855 telephone numbers were not available anymore as no one answered. I went on the ic3.gov FBI site to report the whole thing. Karma WILL go back to them all.... maybe not now- but one day it surely will in one form or another. I could NEVER DO SUCH A THING TO ANYONE AND I PRAY TO GOD ABOVE THAT THEY WILL BE CAUGHT.... there's nothing more filthier than a cowardly thief, STEALING from hard working, struggling people.

It’s not even just random hackers/scammers. It’s also just ebay, they will freeze your money for no reason and then not give it back to you.

Took over 14 days because the moment they unfroze the card it got frozen again during checkout. Took another while before I officially got to use it
