- Going back to my roots here to show you how my friends go about their day job commercial static netting for fish.
In todays video we are trammel netting for Dover sole, a staple commercial fishery here on the south coast using trammel nets set just off the bottom and that are a very selective and effective method for catching and one that has next to no ground impact on the ocean bottom causing little to no damage.
I hope you enjoy it and this is the first of many of this sort of fishing video that I will produce through the year.

The Amputee Angler.
Reminded me of my commercial fishing days.🎣🎣👍🏻
Yeah it did me too being on there it was nice to be back 🎣🙏🏻
Pretty cool, thanks guys👌👍
Thanks for watching matey!
Great to see this side of commercial fishing, doesn't have to be unsustainable. Slick operation 👍 Rich choose the playlist? 😁
Keep the videos coming mate, good to be able to watch someone who knows what they are doing!
Morning Roger 👍🏻 thanks for watching and for the nice comment there at the end that’s nice to wake up too 👌🏻
Have a great day 😀
Enjoyed that mate. Quite good fun that job! I can see why they call it the best job in the world! Music on, with your mates, catching fish. What more could you want
More fish 😂 but jokes aside yeah these boys have fun while working and get stuff done it makes it easier that way!
@@theamputeeangler yes absolutely! Definitely need to like the people you work with!
enjoyed that ben the boys have to work hard for a living
Thank you for watching! It’s all good when the fishing is clean and weathers calm and warm but mid winter and rough is a different game!
Hi ya. That's a nice lot of scrumptious grub. Could go a couple of them right now. Love you vid. Proper job.👍

You’re welcome thank you for watching
good fun
I love a Dover sole
They’re certainly very popular! My other half didn’t think much of them though when I brought one home 😅
at 8:32 why do you smash the lil sharks into the steel bird when they get caught then trown back overboards ?
It’s a big Crab 🦀 that I can see from the time you said and it’s to kill it quickly and stop it from moving in the net so it can be removed
Good lobster bait buddy 😊.
At an average of £12 per kilo I hear I’m not sure they would want to use them for bait 😂
Question!! What is that guy beating the crap out of with the Mallet??????????
Bits of shell and little tiny crabs that stick all the net together and prevent it from going through the flaker correctly. You get lots of bits of stuff off the bottom that catches on the net and that’s quickest and most effective way to clear it 👌🏻
@@theamputeeanglercheers mate,
Interesting video, shouldn't they of been playing soul music though? :D
Hahaha, very good Nick very good 😂
Where these nets shot overnight, What’s the soak time?
Obviously I can’t say where exactly but not far off the land at this time of year and the soak time about 24 hours.
Catches have varied between a box or multiple boxes the last few weeks. 👍🏻
@@theamputeeangler no no location won’t bother me I am up
In Scotland😂 just wondered the time nets are left in the water. Cheers👍
@@user-sc5we9rf4i 😂😂😂 you know what it’s like I will get shot if I did 😅
Shortly they will be “quick shooting” and shooting last light and hauling first light so even less, sometimes only a few hours and get just as much if not more Sole but almost zero other stuff it’s very efffective. I shall do a video on it 🤙🏻
It's off of Shoreham , W Sussex. The guy who posted is obviously a fool because you could easily follow the boat out to see where they shot
where are your life jackets?
Morning Robin. Totally valid point for this video and to answer honestly I left mine on my own boat as an oversight on this trip and for the others what they wear is their choice. The following video to this on the same boat mine was on 👍🏻
What the hell was he smashing on the railing?
Bits of old rock, shell and tiny crabs that hold the net up going through the flaker, it’s the quickest most effective way otherwise you would be there hours picking it all out 🤪
@@theamputeeangler 🙏 Thank you
@@jessemorrow3512 you’re welcome 🤙🏻
is there NO minimum fish size ?
24cm for Dover sole 👍🏻
@@theamputeeangler thanks mate
@@stewthorne No problem I hope you’re well 😀
@@theamputeeangler no but im still here enjoying my fishing with you
@@stewthorne well I hope it goes good for you and I appreciate you being here 👌🏻
Depredadores de pez chicos pesca ilegalmente las crias
todos los peces capturados y vistos aquí fueron medidos y son LEGALES. Fueron atrapados usando redes fijas que no arrastraban también.
Undersize some of those sole
Not a single one of them sole is undersize not by a long way. Any sole that is so much a doubt gets put on the board and measured and if it doesn’t make it goes back as was the case on this trip not to mention the fine if caught.
