10 hours is the length of a decent AAA tps game's single player, if the game lasts that long it's pretty much worth the price, and if it actually has replayability then that's even better. I think 20 dollars is a pretty good price for indie games that had a lot of effort put into them like that game and Shantae and the Pirate's Curse.
I think I paid 15$ on Playstation idk if it went up later or went down when I got it and honestly I would have payed 50$ or 100$ to me its priceless. Like Super Metroid! It's so good! And I have NO idea why people bitch about the story. I found it freaking amazing! The music is incredible and to think Thomas did it all at a time when him and his family were having a HARD time is commendable! God bless you and your family and wife and son, Tom! Pets ARE family too!!!
Considering AAA affair as of late like The Order 1886 have struggled to meet 6 hours, to say nothing the struggle of delivering a satisfying experience worth sinking $60 at launch, i'd say 10+ hours for at $20 (22 on Steam) is more than a worthwhile purchase. Point is that I don't think being indie should necessarily dictate a price point between $5-20 much like being AAA doesn't mean a game should be $60 and Axiom Verge. Either way, good stuff and good review.
+Caz agreed, a last year I bought Wolf Among Us for around $15, and while a single playthrough only takes about 7 hours, I loved it so much that I would have gladly paid more. In fact I did, I ended up rebuying it to gift to my friend because he kept buying stupid games instead of Wolf Among Us like I told him too.
I have no idea how your channel doesn't have more views. The quality of your show has been going up with almost every episode. Maybe you could try a crossover video with another youtuber?
I just discovered him and he's already one of my favorite reviewers. People just like people screaming at video games, rather than show their passion for them.
Nice to see this game get more appreciation. Me, I love everything about it. Not just the fantastic gameplay, but the music, the world, the collectables, the story.... just a really cool game.
Same here. I downloaded it years ago and loved it. When I learned one guy made it I was astounded. I immediately got stickers and a shirt from him. It was a wonderful love letter to Metroid but just different enough.
This game looks so cool. I was a fan of the contra hard corps game and this one has a similar vibe to it. Great review, it makes me want to play it now.
This was some good vids man dude ! I think you always offer some form of new prospective that I don't hear from other content creators in the same vein and I watch a lot of them.
Very nice review, just a little thing, This game isn't "8 bit" even in the slightest, it has much more of a 16 bit look and feel to it... It uses 16 colour sprites and lots of visual effects that can only be done in systems 16 bit or above, like Sprite and BG scalling and parallax scrolling...
Ruko Michiharu Actually, several NES games that came out during the NES' later years featured parallax scrolling such as Metal Storm and Crisis Force. That said, I agree that, visually, it's more along the lines of a 12-bit game, highly detailed 8-bit spritework with the palette of a 16-bit title.
***** I know about those, but the NES only had a single BG layer so making parallax scrolling backgrounds is very limited and requires programming tricks to pull off, games like Ninja Gaiden 2 and 3 and shatterhand divide the single BG layer of the NES into several horizontal non-overlapping parts and moves each part at a different speed, and Crisis Force does the same, except vertically, and games like Metal Storm and Bucky O'Hare do overlapping parallax scrolling by animating BG tiles to make it look like they're moving at a different speed, that's why the parallax of Metal Storm looks so repetitive... But this game uses up to 3 overlapping BG layers (or more) which is on a Super Nintendo level (or superior in spots, but I'd say this game as a whole is on more of a GBA level overall, except with lower colour count)
Ruko Michiharu I'd call it 8-bit on steroids, the overall graphics quality is slightly better than an NES but not up to SNES standards, my guess is that the developer chose to limit himself to NES standards for nostalgic or design reasons, personally I would have preferred if he did the 16-bit style, that way he could use any digitized sound for sound effects, maybe in the sequel.
arcticridge I'd call it 16 bit on steroids because of the visual effects, even if the colour-count isn't that high... 8 bit on steroids would be if this was a Turbografx 16 style game, and the Turbografx 16 can show more colours on-screen than the SNES and the Genesis combined, (plus, can make bigger sprites than the Genesis) but just like the NES it only has a single BG layer which limits parallax scrolling and other kinds of visual effects...
Ruko Michiharu When it gets down to it, "8-bit" is entirely meaningless in terms of graphics. Everything from the Atari 2600 to the Master System were 8-bit. When it all gets down to it, "8-bit" is just a name for a general art style.
NitroRad You should check out Transistor, I feel like you would like it. It's $20 on steam. I don't know if it's too much but it's pretty worth it. The soundtrack is great and the story is interesting and the art is beautiful. Its defiantly one of my favorite games so far.
bought it just a week ago and already played a few hours. it's really a great game! the bosses are okay, though to be fair, most of them for me were more like "where do you get hit the least and can attack the most?" instead of attacking on full force. while the fighting is fun, i take a more defensive/tactical approach with the whole game.
Didn't really like this game, was expecting so much more. I know a single guy made it, but it's lackluster in story, fun and horror if it was really going there. There's no "Aha!" moment when everything in the story becomes interesting because you pieced it all together, it's just "oh I guess this is the story". Kinda neat but nowhere NEAR Metroid or Castlevania.
I love metroidvanias, BUT, i don't really like the original metroids. I think they're way too easy and they control pretty bad. I always found bosses to not be about skill but about having enough energy tanks, and mob enemies are either non existant or might as well, because they are no threat at all. Axiom verge on the other hand, has tight controls, enemies are dangerous and bosses require skill, strategy and knowledge of your abilities and weapons. My only con is that the level design isn't as tight as it could be, and i think it's because of the centra area that connects all other areas that actually makes a disconnection between them. I think teleportation rooms would have fit much better.
Listen this is a great review but not only did you say the wrong thing at @2:29, your correction is wrong too!! It’s the address disruptor which you describe. You put the equivalent of the space jump on screen.
I was looking for yumi nikki and rpg guide when u stumbled upon this channel. Hey rad maybe we can collab i can make artworks and animations for your channel :)
Was great early but the more I played the more average and tedious it got. Eventually stopped playing, just before the lategame (about 7 hours in). Watching the rest was enough.
Are you sure this game is a MetroidVANIA???... it looks that this game only use the Metroid formula to me. Edit: you are right, i got cofused at this part 4:47
There were a couple nights I was up at an odd time and I got to catch a streamer I don't normally watch play part of this. Looked cool but not my kind of game
If you like this game(and probably those anoyodyne and those other games that saw on your channel) you should like "Environmental Station Alpha" which there is more than 2 endings(are you meaning that you aren't far to real end when you got first ending of the game you are wrong) and you can complete game on 200%. first part of the game feels like normal metroidvania, and at the end of this game you will see what it is. Try this, isn't too expensive- on steam. If you want another Metroidvania game that have something weird that's it.(check this out)
I played this game. It was so awasome. Well, except for A location called Eden, which is home to the annoying duo (the propellers of zero pattern and the fly of unavoidable attacks and poor placement) plus my least favorite boss in the game: the killjoy wasp. I could rant why i hate the killjoy wasp, but that will take up 99% of this comment. But the bosses other then wasp are so epic! There is even a huge monster you fight that takes up 2 screens! Plus it contains a huge minf$%k and an awesome plot twist which i won't spoil! Also, by the time i made it to the final boss, i did not find half of the weapons!
I really enjoyed this game. Its fun and the controls are great. My only gripe would be the bosses, especially the last ones. I think it could have used a lot more of epic battles (and more epic final boss for sure) instead of "shoot until death and pray your health is enough". And more bosses in general, as I said the controls (plus weapons, items and movements) are so great that it ends feeling wasted. Imagine a boss were you need to use the drone, or the grappling hook to move from one place to another, or the teleport to dodge immense attacks, it could have been one of the best games ever. Instead its a solid 7 or 8 out of 10, which is great, but not epic/masterpiece.
***** I can kinda agree with you there. I never thought Super Metroid was nearly as amazing as everyone seems to think it is. (Please don't burn me alive)
***** Metroid Prime 1 kinda did not hit it's peak for this series. The boss collection was mixed in metroid prime. 50% of them are worth talking about (Thardus, meta-rilidly, the Metroid prime), but the other 50% ranged from too easy (Parasite queen) to meah (Flagala) to REALLY GOD AWFUL BURN TO THE GROUND BURN TO THE-BURN (Omgea Pirate)!!!!! Don't forget it's other 2 major flaws: the worst checkpoint placement in gaming and Phazon mines, my least favorite level in gaming. Metroid prime 2 is the one that hit the peak in my opinion since metroid bosses and the boost gaurdian is not as bad as everyone says. It's like everyone on youtube is forced to hate a boss that is not close to being bad compared to many really anoying bosses i fought like the omega pirate. Plus it has Quadraxiax who i love and emproper Ing, my favorite final boss in a metroid game! Also, i love dark aither and the ing. They are both really cool. And at least it dosen't have any major difficultity spikes unlike metroid prime, and dark torvus bog is hard for the right reasons. And at least the checkpoints are closer to each other. And for those who say that the checkpoint next to the spider gaurdian sucks for being far away from it, the 2 checkpoints in phazon mines are miles away from each other! And for those who say that the sky temple keys suck, i don't mind them. When exploring, i have very high patience (that comes from a guy who beat the great maze from super smash bros. brawl in one go without tiring out). That's why metroid prime 2 is my favorite in the series.
As much as I adore/love/worship the metroid franchise, I think that super metroid is easily one of the most overrated games on earth, it's great, I love it, but it's not the holy grail of gaming. I personally think that all of the prime games and even....(don't hang me) other m improved off of it...
+NitroRad Eh. I can see where you're coming from. I sorta wish you kept away from the unrealistic hype as hype culture is a cancer to society. But hey, that's the Internet for ya, making games seem more perfect than they actually are.

I think I paid the full price, and honestly? One of the best, coolest games I've ever played.
I love anything based off of Giger’s work. This looks good!
This game looks so cool. I was a fan of the contra hard corps game and this one has a similar vibe to it. Great review, it makes me want to play it now.
Nitro, have you considered the Momodora series?
This game is one of my all time favorites.
i wanna see some of the artbooks especially about the Rusalka
I bought this game yesterday, AND I LOVE IT!!!😆😍

$20 is a reasonable asking price for the labor he put into making the game. Artists have to pay their bills too.
I got the game for free off the epic game website right now
Same
have you tried the game carrion yet seems like something up your alley
Hopefully you can review Axiom Verge 2 soon.
Bought this great game because an awesome Dark Souls streamer on Twitch named LobosJR played through it and I was hooked.
0:54 could've said their race to keep it with rhyming.
Little do you know that this exact game will prove to be the catalyzer for the indie metroidvania boom. :D
1:38 I was just thinking about how this looked like Cave Story!
I love the technoorganics

The game got a prequel recently.
The game looks really cool I think I'll check it out!😁
Apparently it was one of the weekly free games on the epic game store

It's a metroidvania they don't have to be like metroid and castlevania
are you going to do another trilogy video

19.99$
You're complaining about $19.99? This game is still worth that.
Buy this game for the sake of developer's baby.
MetroidContra
As someone who really didn't like either Metroid or Cave Story, is this worth the buy?
Danmarinja Uh, no..?
Danmarinja Prolly not
Hell id pay $40 for a good metraidvania before $60 on an incomplete AAA shitshow.
Maybe you should play Hollow Knight.
