***** Guy wears hats quite often. You can even see him with a similar hat on the album covers for The Memphis Album and Like It Like That and the single covers for Don't Worry Be Happy and Never Hold You Down. As for dancing, he's quite an energetic performer when not sitting down for ballads.
Agreed. Have a listen to Guy's songs 'Gold', 'All To Myself' and 'Like It Like That'. You'll see that his pop-funk sound predates Bruno Mars' funk era. Guy's sound is also derived from his Motown record that he released yearsss ago. Both are amazing artists, and the comparisons are understandable. However, saying that Guy has ripped off Bruno's style/sound is simply untrue.
They were really good as well! I'm really shaking my head at Britain's entry...It was just awful. I'm also glad Sweden won, they deserve it plus its the only winner so far who i'm pleased with XD
Really, this style of song & staging UK often sends and places last. I still remember this vividly, because I had never heard of him (don't really know Aussie music scene), but as soon as he began his performance, I thought "wow, this guy is a STAR".

Swedish here. I really want Eurovision to let Australia compete every year from now on! Who cares if one country is in it that isnt from europe? Israel is pretty much middle eastern and Georgia and Azerbadjan is pretty much russia or atleast asia. Dont get offended by what i said but damn! Let Australia compete!
There are several countries already competing that are not european. Several from Asia, and even from Africa in the past. The point is not whether it is a european country, but if the competing countries are members of EBU.
We loved being in Europe, we are multiculural country with nationalities from every part of the world living here, We helped abba get it's start so we have a bond with Sweden... love from Oz
Everyone in Australia LOVES eurovision. I love how we love it so much that we managed to compete! Thank you Europe we are honoured to compete with you! :)
You guys did pretty good, but Maybe we Americans will throw our hats in the ring soon. We always get our asses kicked in the world cup, so perhaps music is better suited for us!
I remember when I watched this performance live on my TV and I was actually voting for Australia. This was my favourite performance in 2015. And it actually still is. Now I'm watching Eurovision again and I still remember Guy's performance, and that explains why I'm here right now haha. Greetings from Lithuania!
Brandon Jinjiyoshi Tilley I mean having Americans would be interesting don’t get me wrong but would like. I think we’re straining away from the EURO part of Eurovision xD .
Guy Sebastian may have the finest voice I have ever heard. How many vocalists can control their voice like this in a studio, let alone while dancing and performing live? Stunning.
I could just make out slightly laboured breathing in the slow section that gave away how ill he had been and that he was still recovering. I was holding my breath hoping he was't running out of his, but he held on like no one else and smashed the end. So proud of him for not letting any obstacle stop him from such an amazing success.
LaLa Loopsy And he is such a good person too. Truly beautiful human. From personal experience and observation. We love you Guy xx Thank you for honouring us.
LaLa Loopsy I didn't know he was sick at the moment! It would have been just plain horrible if Australia had to drop out on their first invite because of his illness.
Man, Australia has been kicking ass since they got in. This song did great and went 5th, Dami's did so amazing it was 2nd. Watch them win 1st soon lol.
Easily the best performance vocally in Eurovision history. Exactly what you'd expect from Guy. He's already making it big. He doesn't even need to win to get noticed. But 5th is still really impressive. It's too bad Australia can't compete again, I wanted to see them try again next year!
Renee Tsingolis Well, Australia isn't apart of Europe. We were invited by Austria in celebration of the 60th Annual Eurovision (we have the largest viewing audience out of Europe). There's really no possibility for us to come again next year unless Sweden (I presume the winner hosts the next one) invites us for really no reason.
Oh thank for the information. i wasn't aware of that because there are other countries such as armenia etc that aren't part of Eu but compete annually.
Renee Tsingolis I wasn't aware of that to be honest. They may have been invited at the start of Eurovision or otherwise - not sure really. But yeah, that's why Australia competed this year. If you have a look at the live stream of Eurovision at the moment, there's some questions going around about inviting us back next year. With luck we'll be returning. But it's a very good effort to come 5th considering we're the guest, and also to have undoubtedly the best vocalist on the night.
To be fair, Australia has so far nominated Guy Sebastian and Dami Im to participate, both of whom have proven to be very successful. A lot of countries nominate artists who aren't even well known in their own country.
HiMyNameIsMaurice "Battle Scars" is a good song by him and Lupe Fiasco. My personal favourite is "Armageddon", and I think "Angels Brought Me Here" is also a very special song because it was his Australian Idol winning single and what propelled him to fame. It's very heartfelt.

Who do you guys think we should enter if we ever get the chance to enter again? :-) I really wanted Jess Maulboy to do it this year and just realised she was already a guest at last years Eurovision :p
Remember that this was only supposed to be a one-off in honor of Eurovision's 60th anniversary. And then Australia had to go and send this absolute banger that Europe fell in love with, so now Australia is a permanent member of the Eurovision family, and I couldn't be happier about that.
Mubutu123, knightarnaud, there are a few more countries which are not located in Europe or just partly located in Europe, but their representatives take part in the ESC. According to your logic, they also should not be allowed to participate in the contest. But why? What's wrong with that, except the name of the contest (geography, tradition, etc.)? The Eurovision Song Contest has been broadcast for more than half a century, with almost no significant changes, so, maybe, it's time to change something - the geography of the contest, for example? Maybe, it will facilitate the establishment of cultural relations between different countries, nations ("build bridges"), make the contest more diverse and interesting, minimize the effect of the "neighbor voting" on the results of the ESC... This year Australia (being in Top-5) proved that when a song is really good and performance is great it doesn't matter from which country this song is... I really like the Champturn's idea.
Oz must take part in Eurovision from now on. They vote fairly, they represent the multi-cultural nature of their population through their choice of band members and they send fantastic singers - What more could you ask for? Most of the rest of us would struggle with that check-list.....
What a great memory this was. The fun of being in the contest for the first time and then totally astonished of just how good Sebastian handled this song. Blew the competition away.
Inês Dias we're all proud of him too and that was him singing with a bad flu. he has such an amazing unique voice and a down to earth person to go with it. so proud of him
Don't know why, but I still get chills when hearing this song, I genuinely thought they would win last year. The atmosphere with this song was so good, exactly what I expect a Eurovision song to be. The atmosphere was amazing due to the energy during this performance and amazing voice. Props to you GUY!
Awesome performance considering he was sick, you can hear him breathing heavy towards the end. Was so proud watching Australia finally compete, he set a very high standard.
Sasha RamPaige It'd be pretty embarrassing if Australia- a non- European country- took out the prize. We were just stoked to be invited. Top 5 is awesome! Glad you enjoyed it- Guy Sebastian is a genuinely lovely person and very talented.
***** yeah i saw that he always thanked his opponents when he got 12 Points from their Country he seems to be a nice and friendly Person. I just think that in such competitions the best song should win no matter where the contestants come from and Guy had the most Charisma and the best voice yesterday
You're looking for the obvious retort, and so I'll give it to you.....Dami Im was better. Better song, better performance. Guy is good, but Dani's was out of the park.
I voted for them!! I will always say Australia deserved to win this year. You were our guests and brought such a profesional job. You're very welcome to come back to Eurovision with such a brilliant song next year. Greetings from Spain!!
I´m not even a big Eurovision-supporter, but this year´s contest brought quite a few cool songs. This was one of them. Very likeable artist, great song, energetic performance. Wouldn´t have minded an Australian win with that song, tbh.
Way to make a mark on Eurovision on your first try, Australia. This song and performance will be remembered for a long time. Congratulations on your well-deserved 5th position, Guy Sebastian and group were phenomenal.
sof123d Straight to the point! Next year should be invited USA, too, and of course other countries, who want to participate to ESC. My opinion is that this change will bring value added to ESC and everybody will win because will be reduced the votes given by different geopolitical interests (look at Russia song who received a lot of votes from ex-USSR counties). Anyway, congratulation for Australia. Your song is in my top 3 after Sweden and Latvia. Greetings from Romania!
That "Oh", the first word Australia has ever sung in ESC, is the sound of Europe realizing what a mistake they made. JK, thank you Australia for bringing spice to this content, and I can't wait to see you live this year!
It makes me SO incredibly happy that they got to be a part of ESC and they were so freaking happy about it!! I can't with this happiness. I just want to give Australia a hug
This was one of the best performances of the night! It's fresh, catchy and modern. The kind of songs you can easily listen to on the radio charts. Congratulations Australia, you did it really well in your debut as participant! Please, come back next year!
ronnopotter It's not up to us. We would if we could but I think it's a one time thing. Possibly China will get next year's wild card. Thanks for your 12 points!
+ChℓoeJayde After a year I can say: Australia... Oops!... You did it again!!! Dami Im was by far the best voice! exquisitely elegant and she really belted out the song! Congratulations once again!
Thankyou for all those lovely comments from all over Europe regarding our Guy. I loved being up at 5 am and voting in my first Eurovision all though I have watched for years!! Can't wait to next year and hope we Aussies can be there again. My 12 points go to Eurovision!
Thank YOU, Guy! And thank you Australia for taking the competition so seriously :-) I voted for you, I hope you will be back next year! :-) Love from Norway
An amazing song performed by an equally amazing performer. Would have been great if it had won. It certainly one tough act to follow. Love it. UK Fan xx
Seeing all these amazing comments from Europeans saying how much they LOVED Australia & how bloody well they did for their first time & want them back next year honestly makes me so proud to be Australian! It just touches my heart and made me so happy to see how supportive & welcoming people were to us THANK YOU
Guy for King. I am from Sweden and of course we voted for Måns ( live in Finland ) but this is in my heart. Love it! I want Australia in Eurovision always!
Guy, you make me proud every time I watch this. I know people don't really want us there but I love Eurovision and I love it that we're (Australia) invited to participate.
Why do you say that, Australia has properly demonstrated that they take the contest seriously compared to some of the other countries and are therefore a most welcome addition to Eurovision ☺️😉
@@luffirton because there are people, like Graham Norton, who say we shouldn't be there because we're not part of Europe. But Australia loves Eurovision and we love it that we're invited to participate. ❤
Australian here. Guy Sebastian has been my idol ever since he stepped on the stage in Australian Idol 2003. His vocal technique and voice tone is unique with power that is inspiring as he always gives it his all. Not to mention the backup singers that accompanied him on stage. Each one amazingly talented in their own ways! So glad we unleashed Guy into the competition this year. So proud!
Win or lose the “Aussies” came in with a great song and a funky beat that was fun inc great meaningful words. Australia is made up of many people from ALL countries that have migrating there. And they are mostly incredibly welcoming with an easygoing nature. They’re crazy over Eurovision and the music. Why not have them in for music, fun, support and affirming words. It’s then really less a competition and more a supportive music festival. Keep coming to Eurovision Australia. You are really doing a great job ....
Guy Sebastian is vocally flawless! My God, easily the best vocal performance I've ever heard. And the song is amazing too. I voted for Australia, they really deserved it. Thank you for sending this awesome entry in your debut, I really hope it's not the last time we see you in Eurovision.
I am so happy Australia in Eurovision. I really love their performances and get excited each year for them. I really think we will see an Aussie win soon!
With three of his back-up singers being black Africans combined with his ability to sing his HipPop song just like every other RnB singer in the US, Guy Sebastian well and truly represented Australia on this year's Eurovision.
Georgie Lorenz This really represents Australia because Australia is that multi-cultural. We don't need a white person to be Australian, that's shallow. Guy has been loved and have a true Australian spirit. He's the representation of a modern Australian! And this is his style and his forte since 2003 when he started. Australia is not just kangaroos, deserts and spiders. lol! Ask any Australian and they will not deny it.
For the people saying he's a Bruno Mars clone or even Olly Murs.... Guy Sebastian has been doing this for like ten years
Courtney t ikr? Well now the rest of the world knows the 'original' is Guy Sebastian ;-)
***** Guy wears hats quite often. You can even see him with a similar hat on the album covers for The Memphis Album and Like It Like That and the single covers for Don't Worry Be Happy and Never Hold You Down. As for dancing, he's quite an energetic performer when not sitting down for ballads.

If only all the other countries were this good.
World Class perfornance, Guy! What an incredible live vocalist you are! Win or no win, you've done Australia so proud! Loved it!
One of Australia's best entries to Eurovision. Incredible vocals & fun, upbeat banger!
I'm not even from Australia, I'm from Portugal and I feel so proud of Guy. He did fantastic job. I'm just so happy for him. ❤❤❤
It's. Shame that Portugal was one of only two country's not to give any points to Australia.
dimsim78 Actually, 5 countries gave Australia no points. Portugal, Georgia, Montenegro, Azerbaijan and Czech Republic.
Inês Dias we're all proud of him too and that was him singing with a bad flu. he has such an amazing unique voice and a down to earth person to go with it. so proud of him
Inês Dias Absolutely agree with you!
I'm from Belarus :-)
Don't know why, but I still get chills when hearing this song, I genuinely thought they would win last year. The atmosphere with this song was so good, exactly what I expect a Eurovision song to be. The atmosphere was amazing due to the energy during this performance and amazing voice. Props to you GUY!
Awesome performance considering he was sick, you can hear him breathing heavy towards the end. Was so proud watching Australia finally compete, he set a very high standard.
He was sick when he sung this?? If so he sounds insanely good!!
That is such an amazing Song such an amazing Performance One hell of a voice why didnt he win
Greetings from Germany
Sasha RamPaige It'd be pretty embarrassing if Australia- a non- European country- took out the prize. We were just stoked to be invited. Top 5 is awesome! Glad you enjoyed it- Guy Sebastian is a genuinely lovely person and very talented.
***** yeah i saw that he always thanked his opponents when he got 12 Points from their Country he seems to be a nice and friendly Person. I just think that in such competitions the best song should win no matter where the contestants come from and Guy had the most Charisma and the best voice yesterday
***** Wasn't Guy also sick when he performed?
Sasha RamPaige
Still the best Australian entry to date. Change my mind.
Bro who tf will change your mind this is amazing
You're looking for the obvious retort, and so I'll give it to you.....Dami Im was better. Better song, better performance. Guy is good, but Dani's was out of the park.
@@floydster23 That's your opinion. Mine still stands.
@@floydster23 Dami's song was average
Australia please come back, we love your singer !😘 5th for the first time wow great job👌
Amazing !!!!!!! Greatings from Spain!!!!!
Serbia is better...
Sweden is the best!
nope...
Well we will see in the end 😏
:) Good luck ;D
I voted for them!!
I will always say Australia deserved to win this year. You were our guests and brought such a profesional job. You're very welcome to come back to Eurovision with such a brilliant song next year. Greetings from Spain!!
I´m not even a big Eurovision-supporter, but this year´s contest brought quite a few cool songs. This was one of them. Very likeable artist, great song, energetic performance. Wouldn´t have minded an Australian win with that song, tbh.
I have lived in Australia for 12 years, originally from New Zealand, this is our greatest moment in history....... please let us comeback
+IDEEN TV
If it was just me deciding, you would be in permenantly already........
This is probably one of the best songs ever in eurovision
This is amazeballs. Six months later and I am still playing it back. Pure pop! Well done Australia and greetings from Scotland.....
Way to make a mark on Eurovision on your first try, Australia. This song and performance will be remembered for a long time. Congratulations on your well-deserved 5th position, Guy Sebastian and group were phenomenal.
I love his voice, his dancing and his suntan.
🤩🤩
Wow! Wonderful my third favourite just after Slovenia and Estonia and just before Sweden and Belgium!
From France
For those of you that say that Australia is not in Europe - true but........every single country from Europe is in Australia
Good luck Guy.
australia
sof123d LOL..good point! In my family alone we have German, Serbian, Dutch, Japanese, Scots and Irish! and thats just the close family!!
sof123d yeah but Armenia, Azerbaijan, Israel & Georgia aren't europe either.
Best comment of the day!! 👏
sof123d Straight to the point! Greetings from Romania!
sof123d Good point. Well made.
That "Oh", the first word Australia has ever sung in ESC, is the sound of Europe realizing what a mistake they made.
JK, thank you Australia for bringing spice to this content, and I can't wait to see you live this year!
Congrats Australia! Y'all smashed the competition, here's to another Australian participation!
Lots of Love from United Kingdom!!
Australia, you were so incredible last year!!!!!! UKRAINE ADORES YOU!
DesertRose
You guys are pretty incredible yourselves :)
One of the best male vocals in Eurovision history
My favourite that year. Together with Italy's Il volo. What a BANGER!
It makes me SO incredibly happy that they got to be a part of ESC and they were so freaking happy about it!! I can't with this happiness. I just want to give Australia a hug
This is probably my favourite eurovision song of all time!!!
The best voice ive heard in eurovision. Guy sebastian never fails me from Australian Idol up to now..
Love from the Philippines
He was definitely the best live singer of the lot, his voice is incredible.
This was one of the best performances of the night! It's fresh, catchy and modern. The kind of songs you can easily listen to on the radio charts. Congratulations Australia, you did it really well in your debut as participant! Please, come back next year!
ronnopotter Comments like this touch my heart, make me so incredibly happy & make me so proud to be Australian! Thank you so much!! :)
ronnopotter It's not up to us. We would if we could but I think it's a one time thing. Possibly China will get next year's wild card. Thanks for your 12 points!
ChloeJaydeGrant No need to thank, I only say the truth, and we can't deny the high level and quality of your candidate! Congrats!
ronnopotter I know, but more than an assertion it's a desire :)
My 12 points go to Eurovision!
harveywallbangr I second that!!!!
Sweden did not deserve to win. Russia did and i hope ukraine come back with a good song
Thank YOU, Guy! And thank you Australia for taking the competition so seriously :-) I voted for you, I hope you will be back next year! :-) Love from Norway
It is clear this guy is a professional
An amazing song performed by an equally amazing performer. Would have been great if it had won. It certainly one tough act to follow. Love it. UK Fan xx
5th with no neighbor help. That's how you understand that this song is simply amazing. Love from Greece!
Seeing all these amazing comments from Europeans saying how much they LOVED Australia & how bloody well they did for their first time & want them back next year honestly makes me so proud to be Australian! It just touches my heart and made me so happy to see how supportive & welcoming people were to us THANK YOU
I love being in Eurovision and so proud of the two Aussie entries so far) Tearing it up! Please keep letting us back, Europe! Go global!)
So nice to listen to Eurovision songs that were actually more about the song and music. This year it seems like everyone’s going crazy on the stage.
Australia is the best thing that happened to the eurovision! They bring in some fresh wind!
A lot of love from Israel :)
yelowangel12 Switzerland was the real best thing to happen to Eurovision
thanks for supporting Australia in Eurovision!!!👍👍👍👍
That actually brings tears to my eyes! This song was great!!! We want Australia in Eurovision!!! P.S. I'm from Greece.
In 2021, Guy Sebastian’s performance is still the best Australian entry...
So refreshing to see all these lovely comments from different countries around the world, supporting one another! Music truly unites!
Guy for King. I am from Sweden and of course we voted for Måns ( live in Finland ) but this is in my heart. Love it! I want Australia in Eurovision always!
This is featured in a travel commercial that I keep on running into on this platform and I just get so happy every time ❤❤
even u didnt win , we all know you are the best . (: ! thenk you for that perfect perfomance . love it
What if i say...
AUSSIE AUSSIE AUSSIE!

OI OI OI! so the Spanish have a special chant?
Danjigo Yeah, Max Boyce (from Wales) invented this - but I like that Australia have done with it. :P
Danjigo OI OI OI!!!!
Danjigo OI OI OI!!
Danjigo you need to finish of with, OI OI OI!
(aussie aussie aussie OI OI OI!)
Guy, you make me proud every time I watch this. I know people don't really want us there but I love Eurovision and I love it that we're (Australia) invited to participate.
Australia is welcome to participate, unless you split into Queensland, Victoria .. 7 votes will be too much :)
I love that australia participates. You send good songs always
@@peioruiz1851
Why do you say that, Australia has properly demonstrated that they take the contest seriously compared to some of the other countries and are therefore a most welcome addition to Eurovision ☺️😉
@@luffirton because there are people, like Graham Norton, who say we shouldn't be there because we're not part of Europe. But Australia loves Eurovision and we love it that we're invited to participate. ❤
Very good place for the first time. Great vibes, voice and rithym. Congratulations from Portugal.
Just came back here for a listen. What a masterpiece omg. And his voice is freaking amazing!!!
12 from Poland/Germany. fresh, nice to listen to. Greetings to my oz friends.
as a non- european fan, i felt so much emotion when i saw that. (i think i´m not the only one ) So proud of you, Australia
I cried a bit. Just out of sheer happiness though. I'm proud of what Guy and Australia did
Uk here nice job guy this a one in life time opportunity and guy smashed it you Australians should be proud!
It's so good to see Australia in Eurovision. Welcome again and again :)
Thank you from Australia.🇦🇺😙
Catching up years later...this is so amazing! Excellent performance from Australia before many others
Lets be honest, this is way too good for eurovision.
europe wasnt ready yet
don't kid yourself, it wasn't that good
It was good but sweden was better
@@bruhdala9672I highly disagree
Guy should have won the eurovision..best song in this year's eurovision by far
Guy Sebastian is vocally flawless! My God, easily the best vocal performance I've ever heard. And the song is amazing too. I voted for Australia, they really deserved it. Thank you for sending this awesome entry in your debut, I really hope it's not the last time we see you in Eurovision.
This perfomance is a true power bomb!!!! How can you not smile and dance to this?! Wish ESC could have this quality every year!
I am so happy Australia in Eurovision. I really love their performances and get excited each year for them. I really think we will see an Aussie win soon!
You were great Australia. I hope you can come back next year.
Only remember today, it's one of the best vocalists in Eurovision👏👏👏
For Australia's first time in Eurovision, this is a great performance! Great vocals and a strong performance.
With three of his back-up singers being black Africans combined with his ability to sing his HipPop song just like every other RnB singer in the US, Guy Sebastian well and truly represented Australia on this year's Eurovision.
Georgie Lorenz I dont see any Africans there, but i do see Australian aboriginals there
Georgie Lorenz This really represents Australia because Australia is that multi-cultural.
I would like to think they were Australian Aboriginals. But I am sure if you're an Aussie, you'd be able to tell.
Georgie Lorenz I'm pretty sure one of his backups was Aboriginal.
