The scenes at the beginning with only music show how beautiful this area of Belgium is. It captivates me. You are doing such a good job as you progress with the work. It is not easy to describe everything in English when it is not your native language, but you are doing great and are getting better at it all the time. To be honest I never have any trouble understanding what you are trying to convey - the visuals are a definite help. You two are so appealing and I must confess that through this process I am growing quite fond of you. Learning new things by watching is also a plus for me. Good job. Sending best wishes.

Here in USA we call the break, BEER 30, as 4.30 work day over. Even with all the modern tos, sometimes the best tools are the hands and feet. i.e., spreading gravel. Glad to see inspector Clousseau on the job. Even made sure tractor was in good order.

I agree with so many of the comments about your rapidly improving english and the lovely scenes of the local weather/scenery. Your videos are always not only a pleasure to watch but also pretty educational.
Nettles are a pain for us humans and can cause damage to brickwork but as somebody else mentioned they are an excellent food source for a lot of wildlife (I had over 100 catterpillars on one small patch a few years ago) and due to their very dense root system can be excellent for stabilising slopes (which you obviously don't have there). The young leaves are also excellent when cooked like spinach and actually have more iron than spinach!

Hello from Québec Canada,I truly admire your tenacity and vision. Therefore,I would check with a french drain installation spécialist or enginer. The black sheet ALWAYS follow the foundation, witch is vertical.Do not worry, the excavation beside your brick foundation will not crumble. The weigth of your walls goes down, not sideways. Please verify before going further. This is a crucial phase of the renovation.Waiting for your next video.

Clay doesn't absorb water very well unless it's disturbed. The water will pool on level surfaces, your drainage looks really good, remember to prevent the clay from mixing with the gravel.
I had a problem like yours, my remedy was to make a basin of concrete and pipe the water to a buried plastic barrel filled with stones. This prevented infiltration to my cellar.

We did the waterproofing around our house with the same materials/method you are. We did install a large drainage outlet pipe to the main street drain and have all of the downpipes from the roof connected underground into that. The drainage slope only needs 10mm for every 1 metre.

Really interesting technology for protecting the foundation. Looks like it will work great, and as you said a much better solution than a French drain for your situation.

  • @paullynch277
    @paullynch277 3 роки тому +7

Great to see you addressing the ground water issues around the building. I understand your concerns about digging around the perimeter for a French drain potentially causing a foundation issue and look forward to see how your solution to the problem of stopping the moisture performs.
I still think you need a French drain to solve the problem, but only time will tell.
One area you should check that is important - I noticed the gutters & down pipes are directed into a drainage system close to the building. It would be important to have a camera inspection done on the underground drains to check they are 100% intact. Often in older drainage systems they are made with clay pipes and over time the clay pipes can crack. If you do have any damage in these drains, then the water will be getting directly into your walls from this source. As per this video the drainage pipes I assume are below the new system you are installing (to keep the water away from the building) - so if the drains have any damage - they are below your new system and this will cause your new system to fail. Best to have a camera inspection done to verify no issues.

You can dig the sides of the house clear until you reach the bottom of the foundation, nothing will happen.
All the weight of the structure/farm is going down vertical, so you don't have to be afraid that if you remove a bit of soil
on the side that the foundation won't stay in place. After all they had to dig a hole in the ground to start the foundation
and later on they filled it up to the level it was before.

Hello Ilia and Marisa. I love you two, so down to earth and forth coming and your English is getting so good, soon we see you in America. :)
Some hints if you wish to have them. The excavator, place the bucket on the ground when parking it overnight or for longer. Much less wear on the hydraulics.
The down spouts. I know you want to pipe them into the perforated pipe but don't do it. You can use the same ditch but for the downspouts, use solid pipe all the way. You do not want all the roof water in your French drain setup. With a heavy rain you could overwhelm the French drains and wham, water in the house.

Hi. You do a lot of progress at the farm, you should be proud of yourselfs. Hard work but you look happy, thats a good sign. And the trappist beer, i love it. Greetings from Sweden.
