As a bass player/producer/engineer I was ALL EARS for this episode. It is always great to hear and see other bass players that have moved into the producer's chair and learn from their approach. Bass Players make a different kind of producer.
omg he was going to say something insightful about the specific qualities of a reverb and you cut him off so that he could rattle off a superficial list of gear preferences! I'd rather learn a little more in depth about a specific mixing topic. Let the man talk.
please get more producers who are musicians as well, I can really relate to this guy a bit more than some of the other guests, he is so down to earth and genuine.
Thanks for sharing, Justin! I admire your creativity and drive. Also, I agree with you and Dave about 5-string basses. I feel that they don't "belong" in rock music. Peace.
really like this guy - a lot for years. Acoustic Control Corp. rules! I've been using similar rig for10 years ( ACC 370 with 106 cabinet also use a '71 ACC 150 and a 150b with old Kasino Natural 1-15). The one studio I do stuff for has a ACC 360. Took my 150 and the Kasino cab for some tracking , the engineer told me to never come back without it - what tone!
Wow, great episode! Justin is truly a talent and is humble--a nice quality in a producer. I learned quite a bit. And by the way, nice haircut Dave! Thanks.
I dont think it would ever happen but the best episode will be if you could bring steve albini.Until now my favotie is andrew scheps but haven't seen them all
That's precisely what he's asking! Hi-hats are physically setup to the drummers left 99% of the time, yet it's not always that way on a record. So when they ask a producer or mixing engineer this, they're asking whether they like to use the drummers perspective (panned left) or audience perspective (panned to the right.) I personally prefer the left, but I'll pan it right if it fits the song better. Lots of differing opinions here, but there's no right or wrong answer. :)

that's true. some of beck's releases are beautifully bass heavy.
Great interview! You should have more bass players on the show :)

the Boss Heavy Metal Pedal - yes!! First time I've ever heard someone mention that gem.
So fucking good. These dudes are legends.
yeah, thanks for justin!!!
Really cool episode - I do the same with acoustic guitars in dense productions. They're melodic percussion tools!!
I stopped everything I was doing when I saw this was uploaded.
Justin is so friggin creative. Totally inspiring. Awesome episode! (as if they're not all awesome)

I enjoyed this show. You guys should get Dr. Luke or Max Martin on the show. That would be amazing.

Nice guitar ideas :D
Talkbass in the house...

Ken Andrews... I was hoping he would mention him... that was cool.
You guys are hilarious.

My favorite episode by far! I have a random question. Did all of you wear shirts with black and white horizontal stripes by coincidence?
ITL is on 7:40
Blackbird Studios own TWENTY FIVE Telefunken Elam 251 microphones?
You can not be serious??
Has he "Gotten Clear" yet?
White Stripes!! Think about it!
which side do you have the hi hat? thats sorta like saying which way round do u stand whilst listening, but to be fair.. i do get what hes saying

I like to have the hi-hat central just because they play so much, then the cymbals wide to get some width for cymbal heavy sections
im with Randie. dropped all tools to watch this.
you spelled his name wrong in the title
how important is $cientology for him ?
are all friends of Beck $ciento´s ?
