Interesting, because it usually sounds better than what I remember from when people tested that option in the Micro Terror/Micro Dark demos (unless that's just my memory). The tones in the last Saint Vitus and Sleep tutorials were pretty cool. Maybe it's just the pedals doing their work?

For The Druid I was running on the dirty channel with no pedals; for Dying Inside I was running the clean channel with Coda Effects Black Hole. It's not the greatest recorded guitar sound I've ever heard overall, but it sounds decent and lets me record silently which is what I need to do the guitar lessons.

I like the quick intro review of the gear. Fast and straight to the point. 3. I like the music theory commentary as you go through the riffs. Maybe I’ll geek out and go look up major 3rd or Phrygian or whatever. Or maybe I don’t care and I just want to bang on some power chords. I like how you name the theory without slowing down the flow of the lesson. 4. People tell me “you should be able to figure it out by ear!” Man, I’ve got two kids and a mortgage. I need and little help getting started so I can jump right in when I get 10 minutes free to riff out! Thanks for the content!
Man I really appreciate this! Some people learn by ear easier than others--I watch tons of live footage of every song I learn for these lessons, which helps tremendously. I try to hit on all the important stuff without wasting anyone's time! We all just want the info that matters, so that's how I try to frame my content. So, I have been playing this through a pretty similar setup, but some key changes in the equipment. Playing through a Les Paul, tone down, Orange Crush 30 watt, but a different pedal setup. I’ve been going through the clean channel and using a Behringer fuzz to dirty the signal. I’ve been placing the fuzz between fuzz 1 and fuzz 2. It’s basically fuzz 1.5. Try it sometime! It’s not as gain saturated as the fuzz 2 setting, but has more growl than fuzz 1. Eric Merrow discovered the fuzz 1.5 setting and it does really well with EHG.

@@tylersilliman9888 You can get the Burly Slinky to work on C-Standard? I always assumed it had to be heavier gauge but my guitar (stock EPi SG Pro) currently has issues with heavy gauges... Burly slinky might work then with a stock guitar? Cheers!

I use the solid state Crush 20 for all my lesson production basically because it has a line-out with built in CabSim technology, so that I can record direct with the guitar silent. That said, I think the Crush series is a badass line of amps at an affordable price point--I also have the Crush Pro 120 head.

C standard. Although I’ve heard people say some of their records are C# perhaps. But live they seem to be in C from any footage I’ve studied. If you play this song as they play it live, which is what I do in this video, it will only sound correct in C.
Was actually in a comment on one of my posts from someone who typically knows his stuff. But if you ever find some close-up photos (I found one for my Instagram page after reading that comment), you'll see he's always on the bridge and the tone is always rolled all the way off. I have a Randall RG80 and with the way he sets the eq, the amp is far too bright without that tone pot rolled back on the guitar. I’ve got a few shots of Jimmy’s SD-1 settings on my instagram page. He’s always running level cranked, tone around 9 o’clock, gain around 3 o’clock. That’s how I had it for this video.
I'm running it on the dirty channel with the settings as Jimmy runs it: Level on full, tone at 9 o'clock, drive at about 2 o'clock. The amp is already heavily saturated; the SD-1 just tightens things up a bit.
Brett Adams oddly enough I thought the same thing. When I was a kid I definitely played and learned it in C#. But when I went to watch live videos of them playing it’s always in C.

It always sounds lower I figured they played the same as crowbar. The take as needed tone had a lot of low end and fuzz from that ampeg he’s used other amps tho but on that album it sounds like he’s using lighter gauge strings
The feedback...lol. But overall you nailed it...and you showed me something I never knew which is Bower used his forward pickup. I always thought he used the rear humbucker with heavy amp distortion and the lows turned up on the guitar and amp.

It always sounds lower I figured they played the same as crowbar. The take as needed tone had a lot of low end and fuzz from that ampeg he’s used other amps tho but on that album it sounds like he’s using lighter gauge strings

The feedback...lol. But overall you nailed it...and you showed me something I never knew which is Bower used his forward pickup. I always thought he used the rear humbucker with heavy amp distortion and the lows turned up on the guitar and amp.
