  • 20 years ago, Bruce Francisco and his business partner bought an old Cold War missile base in the Adirondacks. After a few million dollars in renovations, the silo is now a luxury home.

With the right type of bunker, you can do that! I like watching the fox that lives in my back yard, and in the winter the mule deer hang out there at night.

Clean out that missile tube, make is a giant spotless clean room, install top to bottom Server racks, host games and bitcoin servers, while using geothermal air circulation and natural ambient outdoor temperature for cooling. Once cleaned up, dried, and reconditioned into a clean room facility, it make an excellent I.T. location for BETA SITE backup severs, backup data storage, and related digital products. Just add electricity, data cable hard lines, and satellite internet dish communications.

I would. It is times more lilkey that the russians have re-evaluated their priority target and thus ruled out and empty silo off their hitlist, as they don't waste warheads on an empty base; they have countless other active strategic targets they have to take car of. In fact, they do satellite runs over the country to analyse and assess the US strategic capacities and plan their strike options accordingly. They also make sure that every silo registered as decomissioned has been properly and exhibitly neutralized (the silo slide roof has been taken out and completely roofed/paved over, or jammed with noticeable blocks, welds and other measures that can be seen from space).

Hardly a Luxury home, Bunkers are a pain to renovate, things start rusting, and water leaks filling up the lower chambers.
If it broke in a few years after its prime, I doubt a few clean ups will prevent future problems.

I'd get the missile silo base thing, but now it says it's $995,000 for the original 19 acres, added on to that you can also get 4 acres with a log cabin for $259,000, a 10 acre runway lot w/ hanger for $150,000, 7 lots with about 8 acres each for $476,000, and 125 more acres (undivided) for $150,000, so if you buy the ENTIRE set of properties that go together it's $2,030,000

    • @icynok

the most expensive part would be the renovations, and also remember, they still havn't done anything with the part where the missile used to be placed, the missle silo is only about half way done :) i'd turn that part into bedrooms and rent them out considering there is 100 acres of land there also.

    Put a missile in it

  • @ocsrc

This is a really cool place
Movies have been filmed in the silo
This would be a great place for more movies
An end of the world movie would be great
It could be a movie where something happens and a group of people who know of the place get to this place and try to ride out whatever had happened in the country, or the world.
This is a great place. I used to live and work not far from where this is.

1:21 : nothing will survive direct nuclear hit no matter its durability because during the first seconds of the detonation the ground zero (were the bomb hits) its actually hotter than the suns core temperature due to the thermonuclear reaction, this will evaporate anything faster than you can blink in so a direct hit from a nuke to the bunker will mean its inevitable destruction, I guess what he meant to say is that this door can survive a blast wave after the initial hit.

Without the actual silo being usable/livable, you're pretty much looking at 3-story underground house with a landing strip. It would be great if they could make a mock missile in the silo, where you can walk in as a spaceman and press the button and like take-off with hydraulic shocks shacking the missile.

Big issue is that in case there is a war, missile silo's are the first one to be blown up by the invading force. You wont be seen as a civilian.

I like the Missle Silo... but if I bought the property I would completley level the house because I don't beleive it fit's the theme of the Silo. I would build something more resemblant to a 60's Nuclear Base. Also I would get rid of that living space in the control room and try to restore it as much as possible to it's orginal appearance. This place would be awesome after everything was restored back to the way it used to be, think of how many people you could creep out on skype or irl :)

I would love to live in a missile silo. It will keep you safe if nuclear war breaks out and it seems pretty cozy.
