- Hi and welcome to episode 9 of my ES 335 guitar build series. Having completed the rib bending form and the external body mould in the last few episodes, this time I put them to use and bend the body sides.
I hope you enjoy the video, if so please consider subscribing using the link below.

Brilliant, never thought I'd see sides bent like that!
Thanks mate :)
Great! So cool to see that it is doable without machine park and steam chambers! This is really inspiring! Thanks!
Thanks Thomas, for me this was the one element of the build I was concerned about. Turns out it's not as hard as I thought.
That bending job worked out quite nicely! Nice work man.
Thanks, I wasn't sure it would work but in the end it came out really nice :)
Nicework on the bending and glue up. I have been watching this from the beginning and am waiting for the next episode
Thanks Fred, the next episode will be along soon :)
Thanks from Brazil! You really helped me
Thanks for watching, I'm glad it was useful :)
So cool. Definitely taking notes! 📝
Thanks Jordan, go for it :)
Great work Patrick.... I had faith in you! 😁
Thanks Jurgen, I kind of thought I'd get it right on maybe the second or third go. I was very happy to get it first time :)
This series is like gold. So good. I’m in planning stage for es335. Would not be able to do it without your videos. Ty.
So I’ve made a lot of acoustic guitars. I bend the sides wet on a form using a heat blanket. Thinking I’ll prob go with ply’s also though, that curve is scary tight.
Thanks Brad, glad you are finding it useful. It sure is a tight curve, plys are probably the way :)
Well done Patrick it is going yo be a great series !
Thanks John, I'm really enjoying this one. I can see it being a long one though!
@@Adventuresfromtheshedofdreams Well we are back in Lock down so that's a treat for me..
@@guitarsofold100 that's not good but at least you'll have a bit of time to watch the build :)
Another great vid. I’m really enjoying these builds
Thanks Steve, glad you are enjoying them :)
Bravo Patrick!
Thanks Dane, I wouldn't have been able to do it without you :)
@@AdventuresfromtheshedofdreamsI’m sure you would figure it out Patrick but thank you.
Well fone mate, looks great!,👍
Thanks Andrew :)
well i'd say you were almost giddy (and rightfully so) at the way the ribs turned out. i think one of the things i like most about your work is that you're doing all this without a warehouse full of specialized and exotic tools. sometimes we get convinced that we have to have all the stuff we see being used on youtube to build a guitar. nothing could be farther from the truth! another great video and a showcase for what's possible.
Thanks Rick, I think that's at the core of what I'm trying to achieve, proving that it can be done without a massive workshop full of expensive tools and hopefully inspiringa few people to get into the hobby :)
@@Adventuresfromtheshedofdreams well you've got me thinking about a few new projects! cant wait to see number 10!
Great work, great video 👋👋👋
Thanks Phil, really glad you enjoyed it.
@@Adventuresfromtheshedofdreams sorry my previous comment was so brief, I was running late! I really get a lot out of these videos, you do an amazing job of making things I thought impossible look achievable with a little thought and care. Looking forward to the next episode.
@@ajaxman1000 no worries Phil, just glad the videos are useful to you.
great job, you've made me realise that it is possible, look forward to seeing this guitar, I have always loved a 335.
Thanks Ben, I know what you mean, I always thought this kind of build was beyond the set up I have. I've always wanted a 335 so this will be a long term dream sorted :)
Great result with minimal fuss. Amazing what can be done with some thought and planning. I also really like the advances (in my opinion) that you have made to your videoing and production over recent months. Excellent job all round. Thanks
Thanks mate, I'm trying a few new ideas out both in terms of the builds and how I film them. It's nice that people notice and like it :)
I figured you’d have to coax the bend along with the iron on wet wood as it sat on the form. Fantastic how it went for you!
I thought that as well but it went around really easily in the end.
Excellent result Patrick. I can see why you're so pleased with it, and the missus, did she notice her iron missing?
Thanks Martin, I was very happy with the results. I think if I can sneak the iron back into the house any time in the next six weeks I'll get away with it lol.
@@Adventuresfromtheshedofdreams our iron only ever comes out when we're going on holiday. I honestly wouldn't know where to find it!
I have the very specialist tools that you used so all is good, it's about time our iron got used lol. As Jonathan said, you made that look very easy but I think the emphasis is on the word look. Excellent video :)
Thanks John, it's all about the specialist tools :)
Lucky? don't think so skilled? definitely! (With a smidgen of well deserved luck)🐱👍
Thanks Bill, bit of both probably. I love it when a plan comes together :)
@@Adventuresfromtheshedofdreams my Great uncle Howerd Hughes said something similar "I love when a plane comes together! .👍😊 I did say it was similar.
@@billmumbo2697 I see what you did there :)
Long drawn process, learning curves, press on, caul it a success... all said and done literally and figuratively.
Amazing. Great work (as expected).
Did you do 2x 1.5mm sides due to the teatowel and iron bending method plus the tight curves - rather than a single 3mm side piece (unless I picked it up incorrectly).
Really pleased to see this one progressing so well and can't wait until the next episode.
I mainly used the 1.5mm veneer as I it's easy to get hold of and I thought it would take less steaming to get it to bend. I initially thought I was going to use three plys but two is working just fine. Next episode will be along before you know it :)
Where did you buy the maple veneer from?
I got it from the Wood veneer hub here in the uk...

Ah...a Mary Kay model band saw! 😂😂😂
