  • Zazen (or Seated Meditation) is one of the main practices in Zen Buddhism, and it has three important pillars to consider: the breath, the body, and the method (or the mind). In this video, Meido Moore Roshi presents the foundations of Zazen meditation, covering all three pillars in-depth.

You are a champ for posting this. I practiced meditation for ten years, stopped and fell back into anxiety, addiction and depression, now I’m back and doing better in a month then in the last ten years. I have watched dozens of videos on how to do Zazen and even read the book, zen practice. The book was hard to follow because the explanation on breathing was very confusing on length and how to cultivate samadhi. None of the other videos I’ve watched were detailed enough or I had to watch captions . So far I’m only 15 minutes and learned more then in the last twenty years trying to learn proper Zazen. Thanks again! ☸️☯️

Dear Meido Roshi. Thank you for taking the time to prepare the In-depth Guide video. I never knew that so-called "counting numbers method" is for my whole being to be one with it, not me observing the number counting. It is also helpful to learn that after I stick my belly forward a little, I should slightly tuck my pelvis. I sit on kneeling bench. As I grew up in Japan, I can count as "hitooooo tsu, futaaaaa tsu, etc." This way of counting seems to sync better with breathing. Question: Can I inhale with "tsu"? Another question: Do you lead online group zazen sessions? As I live in California, I am unable to attend in-person sessions in Wisconsin. From Kazuyo

I hope you stick with meditation. Meditation literally brought me out of 15 years of severe depression and addiction issues. I stopped my meditations after 10 years of daily practice. Ten years after I quit I suffer severe social anxiety, health issues, and rekindled some of my addictions. I’m back on the cushion and feeling much better after only a month. My addiction issues are healing as well. Diet,, exercise, meditation, Yoga, QiGong and clean lifestyle all lead to good mental health and a healthy body. I can’t believe I Quit this lifestyle after following it faithfully for an entire ten years. I got busy with life, work, a new marriage and before I knew it I was a mess again but I’m back in this lifestyle change for good. Best of luck to you with your meditation. It’s hard at first but it gets easier as you go if you make it a habit to do daily no matter what. 🙏☸️☯️

I can teach this stuff in an easy way, because i had to. Silence, bliss & light had to come first for me.
