Those who know me know that I am slow to say stuff like this. I've NEVER made such a scathing critique of someone.

I have a lot of respect for my interviewer, John Matarazzo, for doing this interview when I imagine it could cause some waves for him.
Disclaimer: I know I will be accused of being obsessed with Benny Hinn or of just having a vendetta. Someone who isn't paying attention could believe that pretty easily. They just make a few assumptions and ignore the details. In reality, this isn't about Benny Hinn. It's about his victims. Every day someone is hurt by Hinn or the myriad of pastors who are copying his manipulative ways. It harms the church and excuses the unbelief of skeptics. We should have collectively called him out decades ago. If my coverage of this bothers you then I understand. For the sake of the victims, this is worth addressing. Paul the apostle would have kicked Hinn out a long time ago.

This whole thing is really grieving. But the harm Hinn is causing is so great that I don't think I can back down. I understand those who are worried that this is just division without justification. I believe that it's necessary and biblical.
This isn't for clicks. This isn't for attention. This isn't a personal vendetta. Hinn is hurting people and those who defend him are causing more harm.
It’s about time actual Christians stand up for truth. Thanks for doing that.
Absolutely, Mike. There are most definitely people out there who stir up division for no reason and die on hills that were never meant to be died on. This is not one of those cases. You have done an excellent job "speaking the truth in love." People sometimes are offended by the truth, and some "Believers" falsely assume that just because they are offending people, that means they are being "bold" and being obedient. You do not seem like that type. As believers, we speak the truth in love, telling the truth even when it offends people, but offending people is not our goal. Winning them to Christ is.
Thank you for being obedient, brother. May God continue to bless and increase your ministry as you respond in sincerity, honesty, and genuine love for the lost and misguided.

I am astonished at the amount of people telling Mike to “let it go” or that’s he’s trying to judge Benny Hinn. That’s the problem with today. No one is willing to unapologetically stand against heresy and false prophets. Benny Hinn didn’t make mistakes, he has known exactly what he is doing. He is a wolf in sheep’s clothing and so many of yall are telling Mike to let up because it’s too much? He is not being unnecessary. He does not bash him. He is thoughtful and researched presenting facts.
In this day an age, any negative response or calling someone out for bad behavior is seen as hate and judgmental. Then they say “you’re mot a good christian for hating” as if they know anything with their bad theology.
What Mike is doing is biblical. All christians are to expose false teachers. Eph 5:11. Paul gave examples of naming names in the NT. Eg. Hymenaeus, Philetus, Alexander, Demus. The problem these days is that people don't know scripture and/or they take scripture out of context. Eg. Matt 7 - judge not.

Bad theology hurts people. And people can enable bad theology when they're afraid to stand up to those who are teaching it.
I'm glad you're doing this.. It's biblical to speak up because of this reason. And I've never understood the division argument. It's the people that teach the bad theology that are bringing division, not the people trying to correct it. Romans 16.
There is no division in removing wolves from the flock of sheep. If we love the Church, we will keep it safe from predators and clean from error.

We also shouldn't be afraid to divide - there is rightful division and wrong division. What you're saying is right but also has a bit of contradiction. There IS division here and THERE NEEDS TO BE! We are living in a time when we are all being divided as God tests us all and divides the sheep from the goats. Let us be in favor of GOOD/ HEALTHY division. There is nuance is language that we really NEED to take a deeper, longer look at b/c so many use words carelessly and this leads to many miscommunications and therefore then, many misinterpretations and misunderstandings.
Wolf or not, BH is not innocent. Wolf or not, repentance is about inward change that manifests making it right.
I'm not in a position to know what that would exactly look like, but biblically..
In this event, biblical repentance would look like a refund to everyone he defrauded, declare bankruptcy if necessary, to do so. Consider the rich you ruler or Zecchaeus.
Maybe confession in court if necessary, whatever it takes.
Matthew 19:24 is true.. so is verse Matthew 19:25-26.🙏
Ironically, if biblical repentance happened by living faith, we as believers with the same living faith would be compelled to stand in solidarity with him while going through it.
He wouldn't be abandoned by the Church in the midst of his repentance..
There would be rejoicing in heaven.
Who knows how God would use him as a testimony, how he could encourage others like him to do the same.
There is always hope for the repentant, but there never is for the unrepentant when time expires.
I think Hinn needs to retire, apologise to his many victims and close down his ministry
And sell all his possessions.
And give everything he owns to the poor. Including all of his money.
...and sit down with some Biblically qualified men to learn. Perhaps Pastor Chris Rosborough and/or Justin Peters.
And actually repent. All of that means nothing if he doesn't genuinely repent.
…which unfortunately is not something I see him doing. 😢 But miracles can happen.

I thought the interviewer did a good job at letting you "say your piece." He seemed to ask honest, open-ended questions, rather than asking loaded questions. I appreciated that.

Mike is completely correct. Benny hinn is so clearly not a Christian and is an evil person. Benny hinn has actively and knowingly ruined lives and the only people still falling for him are sadly ignorant from lack of reading their Bible and learning from good teachers or just completely deceived.

But it was the actual interview on the other UA-cam channel shown in this video, minus the introduction by Mike.
Maybe the most troubling thing to me from Hinn's interview w/Strang is at the very end. When Benny Hinn is praying. He uses the example of Jesus on the cross asking the Father to forgive people that don't know what they are doing. He then prays for forgiveness towards "those who have spoken against us and said things that should not have been said against us". If he was truly repentant he would have been thankful for people like Mike calling him out. Instead he insidiously went after Mike and others indirectly, attempting to manipulate and gaslight the audience who is watching him pray to think these are the bad guys.
That is why asking both Hinn and Winger to pray was very manipulative. You can manipulate through prayer by preaching while you're praying. Also, you can use the prayer against someone to say they were either forgiving, and therefore, it's all good OR say they were judgmental and unforgiving in their prayer.

For example: "we should be open to what the Holy Spirit wants to do ... create an expectation everyone speaks in tongues ... I don't have that expectation but I am HOPEFUL" Hog wash you are hopeful. It’s crazy too that it’s basically a “I thank God that I’m not like those people”. He co-opted Jesus’ words on the cross/the Lord’s Prayer just as Satan uses Scripture but still ended up blatantly being the Pharisee speaking against the repentant tax collector just by making that self-righteous comparison. He tried to misuse the Bible and still got theologically beaten by the Spirit!
THAT was a powerful conversation! From a former Benny Hinn follower, 32 years in a Charismatic persuasion, a long time yearly subscriber to Charisma magazine, now 7 years in a Calvary Chapel, sitting under teaching through the Bible, book by book, chapter by chapter, verse by verse-I am so impressed with Charisma inviting Mike Winger to this conversation, and the respectful way it was handled on both sides!! I remember my grandmother dying of stomach cancer and in pain watching Benny Hinn on TV and reaching out to touch the TV and crying for a miracle. I was just a teenager and I watched wondering if there was any power there? I wanted her to be healed. She died a few weeks before she planned to go to one of Hinns crusades. I really loath him now and all his kind. We must reject this mockery of God's divine grace. God heals but not on command. It's not a pet trick men can evoke from a high a Holy God.
We pray for mercy and let God decide if that is within His plan for us.
My grandmother is with Jesus and free from pain sooner than I would have wanted. She's better off. Praise God!

I think that Christian repentance can involve your brother. You can see this example in Matthew 18:15-17. I don’t think it appeases man. Scripture has always tied the love of your neighbor with the love of God. 1 John 4:20-21

Many pastors and teachers have! Few have a platform as large as Pastor Mike however.
What is worse, is that secular media have been doing Benny Hinn exposés which do not paint Christianity in a very Godly light.

Hank Hannagraff wrote a book years ago about these charlatans. It's called Christianity in Crisis. I read it over 20 years ago. My wife's family was and are Word of Faith prosperity gospel adherents. I was almost stunned after bringing up the fallacies and false teachings of these people especially Kenneth Copeland and his minions and wannabes. Terrible and so sad.
Joyce Myers, Kenneth Copland, Jesse Duplantis, and so so many more… Robin Bullock, he’s a younger Kenneth Copland. This makes me sick. My mom gave to many of these when me and my siblings were growing up,
Oral Roberts and Jimmy Swaggered. We wore junk clothes junk shoes, we didn’t do anything but church and all the while they were living the highlife. My dad left us and there was no child support then. Believe it or not I’ve just come to my senses in the last few years. I’m 62 years old 😮We can be stupid people!!

I accidentally fell into it again in the last two years because of trying times and I'm trying to blur it out from my memory... So embarrassing. I was even aware of the tactics at the time and yes I was in a desperate place, but my human ego of being smart and not foolish is being hit. Thank God I was too broke to give too much 😂

My life has been so bruised by this man Mike. My only 2 children attend one of Benny Hinns churches. I cry my heart out regularly. You help me know what to say (with love and biblically quoting our Lord) Thankyou❤️🇨🇦

I am a biblical continuist yet still agree that Benny Hinn fits almost every wicked characterization of the false teacher, false prophet, false apostle, and greed-driven hireling found in Matthew 7:18- 23, 2 Peter 2, and the Book of Jude. I pray for Benny, but make no mistake, I pray for his salvation. I watched the Charisma interview. Mad respect to you Mr. Winger. You made me grieve for Benny Hinn and pray for his soul. I do think Hinn is in damage control but his due judgment is coming.
I tell you, I have had a *really horrible experience* with a "Benny Hinn wannabe" in a *white jacket* , who behaved *exactly* as Hinn on stage. And it left me broken, hurting and humiliated. And I was absolutely *not healed* !
Just like in the *many* videos I've watched on Benny Hinn, this "healer" was also only interested in having me fall to the floor. He wasn't interested in me at all, and never even talked to me - he just screamed " *FIRE* " in my face, and got frustrated when I remained standing, and screamed " *FIRE* " some more. He *sounded like a dragon* .
And I just sat down on the floor and *cried* in disappointment - mostly at my gullible self - and *nobody cared* .
I had been praying the whole time "Lord, if this is *not from you* , then I don't want to receive it."
I tell you, it was *definitely not from God* . And this experience is what God used to *open my eyes* to this type of *religious stage manipulation* .
And that was the only positive thing that came out of this horrible experience.
Now, many years later, *my illness is still there* , even *more serious* than at the time. But I tell you, the Lord, in *not healing me* has been much more graceful, than that "Apostle" in the white jacket ever was.
And now I can spot a charlatan and false "healer" in an instant. And as soon as I see one, I want to *warn* my brothers and sisters to stay well away!!

I’d like to see something like what Steven Bancarz did after teaching new age and making a fortune. He first told his followers it was all a lie and then he sold his huge house and wrote a book with Josh Peck. He hasn’t tried to make a new following, all his focus was to give Jesus glory. Yes, that is a FABULOUS example. He went from being ridiculously rich off the New Age to getting death threats and hate mail because he was bold enough to say “I’m so sorry, this is all crap and it’s demonic and Jesus is the only way.” And then he shut all his income streams down, sold off all his fancy stuff, and became just a guy who shares his testimony and points to Jesus. No self aggrandizing speeches, no “don’t blame me, it was just a mistake, I’m human.” Just full out apology, accountability and a life lived 180° in repentant pursuit of Christ. THAT is what repentance looks like.

I was going to a "Charismatic" church and I kept feeling some strange energy in that place. I took it to GOD in pray and a few days later, I woke up and ALL morning, I kept hearing the name "Jeremiah". I realized that I had never read that entire book, so that very morning I read it and by the time I was done with the book, I understood what is going on in that movement.
Charismatics like to use the UNBIBLICAL slur "heresy hunters" to anyone that points out that they are under the possession of unclean spirits and divination. False prophesy is a death sentence, in fact, the main enemy that goes to the LAKE OF FIRE is called a FALSE PROPHET. If Charismatics had any discernment at all, they'd be walking with a LOT more care.
With all respect, some of us use the term "heresy hunters" for people whose "ministries" do NOTHING other than point fingers and throw people under the bus. Most of those types of ministries offer no gospel message or bible teaching of their own, but rather just focus on everyone who is "wrong" in their eyes.
Don't call it demonic or anything like that, there still can be churches where the Holy Spirit is but people might be disobeying or it takes time to change. No one is perfect and if there is God's Spirit but you call it names you might blasheme God my friend. So be careful, rather say I don't believe it's true or not sure or I believe it's not biblical but don't insult it with devilish names. Some things may seem weird and be from God and some things may seem awesome and be false. You can openly call other religions demonic, Hinduism, Islam etc. but don't do that to people that call upon the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Even in the Bible there were disobeying churches and even though they were really bad, they still belonged to Jesus Christ. I don't say it out of hate but I warn you to be careful. If you call something demonic about some churches and it's not and you will find out later you were wrong, you blashemed, but if you call something demonic about some churches and you find out later you were wrong but you haven't called it demonic etc. just didn't accept, criticized it, said you don't believe this or biblically based on your knowledge you disagreed, you haven't blashemed, God will rebuke you and give you understanding. What denomination are you in if I may ask?

The HOLY spirits gifts are well defined, discerning spirits is ONE of those gifts.
When Paul and Silas were teaching, there was a girl with an unclean spirit, apparently 'doing GODS work' by following them and yelling for EVERYONE to listen to them because they were men of GOD. Now, to the average person, such a spectacle would appear to be the work of GOD, a herald to usher the wayward in to hear Paul but Paul knew what it really was.
My advice is to take your questions to GOD as I did, I felt something was off and GOD pointed me to HIS word and I had the answer, loud and clear.
If you're going to tolerate false prophets, date setting, inane gibbering that is not edifying, corporate pray when JESUS himself gave the instruction "When you pray, pray like this", then I wonder, where is the line?
At some point, people started 'off roading' with the gospel and were given over to all forms of error. The entire New Testament, aside from ONE book is talking about false teachers.
Really appreciate your documentary and your conversation with Charisma staff here. I had some very well meaning people telling me to go to Benny Hinn Healing service years ago when my son Nathan was diagnosed with a fatal illness. So thankful I did not go...we of course did pray in faith for our beloved son's healing, but in the end...God alone is the One who determines our first and last breath here on earth. It is incredibly sad that so many people are being harmed by Benny & ministries like his. My heart aches & I do pray he truly repents someday, like his nephew Costi, who came out of this false teaching/ministry! Keep up the great work of sharing false teaching such as this Mike Winger! Also appreciate your humility because truly none of us are perfect, but the LORD does want us to call out heresy!

I was raised in Pentecost and I am now 72 years old. Benny Hinn is emulating the charismatic "stars" of his day, the people he most admired and looked up to. It may be in his mind that Kathyrun Kuhlman was the pinnacle of spirituality and understandably he wants to emulate her ministry.
But can you imagine, given the thousands of viewpoints on theological matters that characterize the church, what confusion would reign if we all had the power to work signs and wonders/miracles? "An evil adulterous generation seeks a sign", yet Israel was given signs by Jesus and by his apostles, miraculous Powers that confirmed their doctrine. How could God allow just ANYONE the power to do miracles confirming whatever they believe? Wouldn't this result in utter chaos?
I am thankful for the enthusiasm and love that Pentecostals have for our savior, but we MUST start obeying Paul's direction for the administration of spiritual gifts outlined in first Corinthians chapter 14...

I don't think God intends for everyone to do miracles. First Corinthians chapter 12 Paul asks a rhetorical question "do all work miracles?" And the obvious answer is no. My second point is that miracles were given to confirm the teaching of the apostles (Mark 16:20). Would God give people that are teaching error the power to do miracles to confirm in the minds of men that they were from God?? I'm not saying that no miracles ever took place at a Benny hand meeting. But I am saying with my vast experience in charismatic circles, most miracles are the curing of stomach aches and backaches. Very few miracles on the scale of what Jesus did have ever been seen since he was caught up to heaven. Each one of us will give an account for the things that we have done, and thank God for his grace-

Calling out heresy when you see it and making it your job to find heresy are similar but different. We call it witch hunts for a reason. When you are looking everywhere for a witch you will always find one. That's why when it comes from Mike Winger it comes off much more credible than people who spend all there time finding people to call heretics.

A lot of them don't know scripture. I was in those churches for 30 years of my life and admittedly I didn't know scripture properly either. It wasn't until I left charismatic churches that I learnt how to properly read scripture in context. In charasmatic churches they tend to take scripture out of context a lot.

Avoidance of division cannot justify a lack of accountability for leaders in the body of Christ. Prolonged, harmful, unrepentant actions must be addressed, and when these actions are performed on a public platform, they should also be addressed on one. It can’t only be the world calling out the problems with what people like Benny Hinn are doing. Thank you for trying to call out these behaviors in a biblical manner.

When I got saved in the 90's, I lived in India where biblical material was scarce and one of the few pastors whose material had made it there was Benny Hinn. Even as a new christian, I knew something was off but I followed him anyway, sending him all of my pocket money in special international envelops because I was afraid to not do so. My goodness, has God rescued me from such false doctrines or what! Thank you for being so brave and standing up to these mega pastors. You are not alone in this fight. You have an army praying for you.
I fear for our culture, especially the Christians of our culture. A lot of times I find Christians following or listening to people like Benny Hinn because 1) They do not read the Bible or read it in context, 2) They do not sufficiently critically think about his teachings, or 3) They are quick to support him after hearing only one teaching or hearing one testimony about him. In an age where we think we have a full grasp of a topic in twenty seconds or less, it allows for people like Hinn, Copeland, and other false teachers to thrive because almost anything can seem right in twenty seconds. However, a thorough, critically thought out presentation of the facts brings to light the tragic corruption we are seeing. I just hope we all will be able to grow our attention spans to see it. I lived in Kenya for a few years in my twenties and it really put me off of Christianity. I had always been a spiritual person but seeing the predatory nature of the church there sickened me. Prosperity ministry TV channels are pumped into the country. So it's all Joyce Meyer, creflo dollar, Joel osteen et al. Give money to go to heaven. Give money to get rich. Give money to save your loved ones. Give money to become a prophet. And so on. A country full of people with no money were being squeezed by the church for what little they had by these ministries in the guise of missionaries and local priests. It was truly evil. I left Kenya 13 years ago and it is only in the last year that my heart was opened again to the concept of congressional Christianity and it's through hearing and seeing conduits of such grace and humility as you mike. You are a beacon of what Christianity should be and I thank you for it.

Mike, thank you for exposing this false teacher. I grew up in the Charismatic movement, including some pretty extreme stuff. I had my reservations even then, including when I attended a Benny Hinn event. Long story short, I am now a “soft cessationist” and probably best described as a Reformed Baptist. Even though we may disagree on some points of theology, I do appreciate your ministry very much in its levelheadedness and honesty. Keep doing the good work!

I find it interesting how out side of the christian world, people who lie for money are called con artists.
Yet in the christian world if a “pastor” or “prophet” lies for money they are not called con artists, and worse people protect them.

What a tremendous interview! You did great at being balanced and not at all defensive! The interviewer, of course, was postured to protect Charisma in/from their endorsement of Benny Hinn (et al) all these years and though they subliminally tried to ‘put you on trial’ you answered so well. 👏 👏 👏 TY for gravity and sensibility. You were very articulate in your critique of the chicanery of these supported and propagated manipulations. Charisma has utilized these that participate in these types of things and added their endorsement over time and overall by their refusal to expose any of these types of ministries/ministers over the years. These manipulators and ‘Christian Showmen’ have enabled them to stay afloat as a business bringing stories of the charismatic Pentecostal community w/o a biblical measurement for their continued support.

After watching your Benny Hinn video I searched for examples of repentance in the Word and came first to Jeremiah, a perfect book to me about forgiveness and true repentance, and God's desire to forgive and show mercy.
Jeremiah also a great book about false prophets etc.
To me, repentance comes with anguish, heartbreaking sorrow before God as we see and are confronted by the darkness of our sin before a holy God. It's painful, and my experience conviction and repentance go deep and is not over quickly.
I mean, a quick, I'm sorry I sinned, I'm forgiven, let's continue on.
I'm praying for you Mike, I'm 74, this has been entrenched in the church for decades -- this type of thing has gone unchallenged.

Repentance includes restitution:
But Zacchaeus stood up and said to the Lord, “Look, Lord! Here and now I give half of my possessions to the poor, and if I have cheated anybody out of anything, I will pay back four times the amount.”
Restitution is a sign of a repentant heart (fruit) but isn't a necessary component of salvation. Our works do not save us. "Today salvation has come to this house..." (Luke 19:9) is Jesus declaring himself as the means of salvation (he came to the house of Zacchaeus). I don't believe for one minute that Benny Hinn is saved. The Holy Spirit would not encourage him to deceive and exploit others. Salvation is a free gift he could yet receive if he were to repent. That would be a massive shift, though. A true sign or wonder rather than the false ones he proclaims. I reckon what will happen to Benny Hinn is what normally happens to frauds - the lawsuits will come. Not a good look but there is a need for excretion however unpleasant the sight (or smell).
I truly appreciate this interviewer, who seems to feel bad that they even gave BH a platform. He gave Mike tremendous leeway & opportunity. Great job, both of you!
Great interview! You spoke truth with great grace and such clarity. I have previously left critical comments after some of your shorts not because I want to defend the preachers you are speaking about, but because I think it is so important to be very honest and not exaggerate or take anything, including video clips, out of context. Honest evaluation and clarity bears witness against the deception. Any exaggerated criticism or misrepresentation when exposing deception leaves room for the deceived and the deceiver to criticize the credibility of the claims made against the perpetrator. May God bless and protect you and your family as you continue to serve Him.

I am from Indonesia, about 20 or 30 years ago, He was very very popular in Indonesia, the crusade he had, it was like more than 10K people I think, I was a young Christian back then, I remembered the music, the band, very hip, I enjoyed the music, the songs, but until all those wheelchairs (the front rows) and he did all the slain things, I was scared and found it weird, and thinking, was that real? anyway, but because I was young, my friends asked me to go to see him again, I visited twice, again enjoyed the songs, but very skeptical with the shows that he performed, and he wore those white clothings. Watching your video brought back those time with my skeptical thinking. I did not give money at all, because I did not believe what he was doing back then, and still not believe now, crazy stuff, I had a lot of questions back then, thinking, why people or his people had to be behind those that Benny slain, I don't think God want those people got hurt, and why those front rows (before He did those show- with his jacket) had his people ready behind those front rows people, really like a show to me. Anyway, I just wanted to thank you so much for doing this.
Sorry you focus on some bad example. I ushered at many Benny Hinn crusades. The presence of God was there; DESPITE Benny Hinn and some of the things he did. Why not focus on the REAL? Ask God Holy Spirit to direct you to real men of God; better yet, focus on the Bible. He is not that UA-camr seeking for "likes" or hunting all false teachers, his main teaching is verse by verse studies, apologetics, answering questions biblically and very humble person and full of grace. I’m sorry for your loss, I list my wife of 27 years to cancer , so I understand somewhat of your pain, however by Christs words you cannot loathe him. You must forgive him as loathing him will hinder your walk with the Lord. We had many believers pray for her healing and got proved every doctor wrong in their diagnosis however she went to be with the Lord after 28 months of her battle. But please pray and seek as forgiveness is non negotiable with the Lord so forgive Benny and move forward in your walk with the Savior.Christ. !!!
I want to thank you for standing for the body of Christ. The most telling part to me in Benny Hinn's repentance was when he said he bowed to peer pressure. That right there should have him stepping down from his ministry. His congregation cannot trust him to lead them correctly. He is not strong enough to stand up for them. You, on the other hand, have continued to stand strong.
“What is your relationship with the Holy Spirit” strikes me as such a strange question for a Christian to ask another Christian.

Mike, I'm not sure what I appreciate more about you, the depth and diligence with which you research and present biblical analysis, or the humility and grace you exhibit even when you express critical views of the teachings of people like Benny Hinn and Joel Olsteen. I think of two scriptures demonstrated by you consistently: Study to show yourself approved... And, speak the truth in love. If only these qualities were present in a greater percentage of pastors and teachers, false teachers would have no place. Thank you for your ministry.
