    When I was in HS a long time ago, and I was in wood shop, I always was interested in the lave, but we were never taught about what you guys are doing.
    I wish my eyes we're open to this back than! Great job

      Back in 1986 in high school shop class is where I got my start. My dad still has the first thing I turned, a large pine lidded box. I filled the screw holes with wood filler and stained it a dark brown....it's horrible, but dad thinks it's the best piece I have ever made. That sucks you didn't get that experience. We were only allowed to take shop once. I wish I could have continued back then. Thanks for sharing.

    I didnt think I would like the black, BUT that is sharp, I have to try that one also. People keep telling me you cant get a finish like that without wet sanding mess, well thank you, you just proved it can be done!! Keep up the good work!!

    • @MoonpieCreations
      @MoonpieCreations  5 років тому

      Wet sanding is for the birds. That Acks abrasive paste took all the small scratches out. I put some on and ran it slow for a bit then revved it up to high speed to buff it all off. Boom, no more small scratches. Thanks for that.

    Fine work indeed.
    Just for fun, if you get bored and have nothing better to do, maybe make a fails playlist. Ha ha!
    For real though, seeing mistakes and knowing the pitfalls other lathe-folk might encounter is useful to those of us who wanna try this at home.
    I'll sit through the whole list and I think others might enjoy it too.
    Cheers! And thanks for another great vid.

    Outstanding bowl. I have some spalted dogwood that I made a Dragon egg, but the rest is cracked like yours. The black epoxy is an excellent choice for cracked wood.

    • @MoonpieCreations
      @MoonpieCreations  5 років тому

      Brent, I had never turned dogwood before the Frozen Water Bowl I did. But wow this stuff cuts like a dream. But it continues to move even after it's dry. Those cracks are perfect for resin fills.

    Hello. Which of the Total Boat resins do you prefer for your larger castings? I have seen you use the High Performance 2:1, and the Traditional 5:1. Also would your opinion change for clear and/or lightly tinted castings? Thank you, and keep up the good work.

    • @MoonpieCreations
      @MoonpieCreations  5 років тому

      Marc,
      I prefer the 2:1 but if you are talking large pours I'm going to have to suggest Total Thickset. It is a 3:1 mix. This mix is used for jewelry and is fantastic for clear and lightly tinted castings. But it does take three days to cure as it is very watery after mixing. The 5:1 was cheaper, and drys crystal clear. It is harder than most but I believe it is made for bar tops and such. Are you using a pressure pot? If not, I do not think I would attempt large pours, do 1/4"pours instead. I hope this helps and I am here if you have any questions. Don't forget I have a code for Totalboat.com MPC20 will get you 20% off.

You share beautiful projects. I congratulate you. I noticed something watching this video. When using the pressure boiler, you did not pinch the cover. Was he doing the pressure boiler, or was it a little game? If the press boiler does not work, there is a jam and you can eliminate the air bubbles. May you come easy. I am waiting for your new videos. With pleasure to watch.

    Do you have issues with your wood cracking/splitting with any of your bowls? If so, is there any way to prevent it? I turned my first piece last week (posted to your Facebook page, not sure if you remember? It was a spalted maple candle holder) that developed big cracks (whole wall)

    • @MoonpieCreations
      @MoonpieCreations  4 роки тому

      Shoaib, I know I answered this on Facebook, but I think others may benefit from it too. I turn wood wet and turn it down to about 10% of the width of the bowl. That means it the bowl it 10" in diameter I will leave it 1" thick. Normally no less than 1: thick on any bowl. This helps allow for warping. Then store them in their own shavings in a paper bag (yes eco warriors I reuse these bags). I then leave them to dry for 4-6 months until I final turn them. Another thing I do it rough turn them the same way then coat them with Anchor Seal (Any latex paint will work) then let them sit for 6 months. Epoxy bowls require your wood to be completely dry. I recently turn a bowl I thought was dry, here's the video. ua-cam.com/video/7njbpITnpjs/v-deo.html I hope this helps.

    Moonpie, would you mind doing a video on sanding sealer, wax , and polish? I feel like I am using everything all wrong lol. ( new turner here 6 months in) no one ever covers the detail finishing and I know you hate sanding but would be nice to see and hear your thoughts aka live commentary.

      I'll tell you what. I have a bowl that's been on my shelf for about six month. It's Chinese Talo. It need sanding and finish. I will try and do a video on the finish this weekend or next. It's a lot easier than it looks.

    This is a beautiful bowl. I didn't know there was a black mica powder, that wouldn't turn it grey. It looks good. It's crazy how resin turning puts white strings of resin everywhere... anyway, good video 👍

    Beauty! I see turners often complete the finish of the exterior of the bowl only to have to redo it once the interior is finished due to blending the lip. Why waste the time and materials? If you want the bottom finished then do so and leave the rest of the exterior to finish with the interior. Just a thought.

    • @MoonpieCreations
      @MoonpieCreations  5 років тому

      I am with you on this one. But I have just begun doing the bottom and leaving the sides. I think this will help as I always have to redo the sides. lol

    Yay! Another win. I like it. I haven't used the Black Diamond yet. I have used the Jacquard. What's your opinion on the two? Anything worth noting such as this one is better for this type of project, etc. Maybe a difference in the range of colors.

    • @MoonpieCreations
      @MoonpieCreations  5 років тому

      I got a sample pack of the Black Diamond with about 10 colors and I noticed that all the colors were more of pastel colors. I may need to look into it, but the Jacquard colors seem to be more vivid and bright. But I need to use some of the other colors before I make a real determination.
