Fair warning, fine and small grade orchid barks hold way more moisture than their chunkier and larger counterparts. A while back I thought it'd function just as well for aeration/drainage, and whoa baby, was I wrong.
Fun video, Nick. I've given up putting plants directly into pots. Now I put everything into a plastic pot and then put that inside of all of my many many cute pots. I found that works better for me. But I was interested to see your potting mixture and I'll definitely try that.
I use the growers pots for repotting as well and then put them in a decorative pot after the repotting. I seem to have greater success with this method as well. I’ve had plants for years but roughly four years ago I switched to using growers pots when I repotted on everything except for my succulents. I still directly pot them in terracotta pots. 😊🪴
"Spank your pots" "Taco test" ... you have the best way to describe plant care. Always love the videos. You make plant care so much easier to understand. Do you have any plants in leca or lechuza pon?
Terra cotta is great! It's often more affordable too. I think you can put any plant in terra cotta except ferns or other plants that want to have wetter soil. But most plants like to dry out, at least that has been my experience!
Hi Nick! The only plant I recognize is the syngonium albo, and yours is gorgeous! I haven't seen the others, but they are really pretty. I'm curious why you don't add a piece of screen, or something, above the drainage hole to keep so much soil from falling through? I noticed that every time you spanked the pot that soil was coming out of the bottom. I'm hoping that you're completely moved into your new apt. by now. Thank you so much for sharing!
roots can grow through the screen or completely engulf it so it can make repotting more challenging (sometimes)! 💪🏽 soil fallout is common during the first few watering after repotting, but the amount slowly decreases over time 🪴i always just toss the soil in the tray back into the pot when im done watering 😝😝
spank the pot ha I love it also I live in delco hey neighbor 💚 just found your channel when I was researching my PPP I think she needs to be repotted !
Hi Nick, thanks for all the great content! Curious to know where you get your terracotta planters. I've been purchasing mostly terracotta but would like different colors and styles. Thanks for your help!😁
I’ve seen the dark brown clay pots as well as a light beige color at multiple independent garden centers in both Colorado and Missouri. So, it’s worth checking with businesses in your local area to see if they carry them or can possibly order/source them for you.
I've learned to not leave sphag moss on the roots when repotting into a soil substrate of any kind because the direct contact of moss of roots will encourage rot. Is this a myth? What is your experience with this?
Hi, Nick! Love ❤️ your videos. Question: I've got a monstera that is doing well except the last two leaves that have grown in are considerably smaller, paler and kinda brown on a few of the edges! If I cut those two leaves off will that stunt or stop the growth? HELP! Thanks 😁
Normally when you prune a plant, it will stimulate new growth, as long as you don't cut too many leaves off. I would prune them off if they are bothering you. Just be sure the pruners are clean, and then I'd be sure it's drying out before you're watering it to ensure it isn't suffering from root rot. I know you didn't ask me this question, but I happened to see your comment lol. God bless and take care :)
Have you had any issues with calcium or magnesium deficiency when using coco coir? I had major issues until switching to hydroponic nutrients supplemented with CalMag.
While the green tray is not designed as a litter box, I’ve seen where people have used them as such for older or disabled cats that have difficulty stepping over the edge of traditional litter boxes.

Yes this is so smart!
you're supposed to use it the other way but he turns it backwards so we can see
I use terracotta for all of my Aroids and they're thriving. I also LOVE the look of terracotta 🌱

This came just in time! We have a few that have never been repoted and are in desperate need, thanks for sharing
I just watched this video right after I repotted two of my heartleaf philos today. Love it! Thank you, Nick, for the info!
If theres nothing else I get out of this video, it's a use for old litter trays that I don't know what to do with!
Syngoniums LOVE to climb and they do it very fast. Yours looks pretty sad without a mosspole.
I would never disagree with your aesthetics!
Love this video and that tall anthurium reminds me of a Dr. Seuss plant
Nick, 10/10 for your choice of planters! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
I love tall thin and short squat pots. The tall one you used is gorg!!
Todays therapy, brought to you by Nick.
Enjoy your videos so much ! Thanks for all the great info 😊 have a wonderful day.

Please would you explain why the rootball should be dry when repotting please?
Thanks Nick. Hope the move is going well.
I LOVE YOUR GREEN BIN! 💚💚💚

I believe he gets them from repot me as well.

The moss pole is cool but I am concerned it is too heavy and would tip over. Please update us in the next few months.
I love that tray
Looked up how to report androids and got this shit? im sold!

NICK CAN GR💚W BEAUTY!!!
Have you had any issues with calcium or magnesium deficiency when using coco coir? I had major issues until switching to hydroponic nutrients supplemented with CalMag.
I water my plants with bottled water and there's calcium and magnesium in it. I don't have that many plants though.
Do you still use trash can fertilizer? I haven't seen you talk about it.
Would a mix like that be good for hoyas?
Are you in your new space?
🌱
Where ya been?
Without any mash or something to block the drainage hole, the potting mix might spill out of the drainage hole... Is it ok?
Yep just add more as necessary
How do you get your finger nails clean
💚💚
Give it a spank 😆🤣
Is this video in your new apt??? I thought you moved.??
That’s not a litter box??
I use dollar tree litter boxes for repotting and bottom watering some plants. Not as big and fancy but cheap and handy.
While the green tray is not designed as a litter box, I’ve seen where people have used them as such for older or disabled cats that have difficulty stepping over the edge of traditional litter boxes.
Enough advertising 🙄
Hi Nick, loved this video and your content! Many thanks for the tips and for the information. 👌🪴🥰
