We got a functioning dog robot before Gta 6
We got AI that can generate videos of GTA 6 before GTA 6.
Rockstar lost so many talented devs and writers that made RDR and older GTAs great, I personally wouldn't have high hopes for it. Michael Unsworth, Lazlow Jones and Dan Houser for example and probably many others we don't even know about.

very cool to be able to give them much more information than "oh yeah that feels about right" on a piece of equipment and all the other things spot will do. spot walks so natural looking yet every step is perfectly synced. watching it walk up the stairs effortlessly is a trip in itself.
it's not like they couldn't carry a thermal imager or a particulate detector with them on the rounds, but this is so much more efficient than tedious rounds dealing with identical data except for that one time.
Humans can make errors when doing basic processing, and that one time something needs to be spotted and isn't, is where things go wrong. That's where having automated robots to do the checking on scale is invaluable and frees up time we humans can do more specialized work

@@youngblood23rb In my experience the oil companies usually are very traditional and fights for every cent, even if it would cost less in the long term. Those who have worked with the industry might find this surprising that they would even consider testing out robotic workers, while other's might think "well, they have money".
When it came to green energy and carbon capture though.. that was a choice made by politics.
@@Bidmartinlo It may very be a freebie from Boston Dynamics or even paying them for R&D. Works a lot better developing the software in a real environment. This video is the proof of it, not many company would open their doors to the cameras for a promotional video
The oil and gas industry has alot of large companies running top quality work environments. Although their is alot more out there, in countries with less government oversight, running cowboy operations
I wasn't prepared for blue Spot.
I guess spots will have there own skin on what company or organization they are working for, I guess shells will be white and yellow with a shell logo

It’s amazing how far this company has come. I remember back when they were just figuring out how to make robots that could walk and run and get back up if you kicked them over. Now they’re mass producing and selling some of the most advanced robots to big name companies like Chevron that can use them for dangerous jobs so that people don’t have to be at risk all the time. Its amazing. I can’t wait to see how much farther they’ll go in the future

Spot only costs ~$75k once. It probably replaces a few human workers that likely cost more in salary + benefits annually.

How are you managing network connectivity ? Are you using offline routes for navigation or radio frequency?

It's not, but they would only operate in areas that don't require Intrinsically Safe.
That's also why it has the flammable gas detection, so it can avoid leaks and such.
I'm assuming for refinery operations. This is a good question. @BostonDynamics Perhaps spot is limited as to which units it can travel into.
Depending on area classifications continuous atmospheric monitoring is likely required, either by Spot or fixed monitors within the facility

How often are the tools on the spot calibrated? How do you know the readings spot is taking are accurate and not misreported due to sensor malfunctions?
Good question I would assume it would depend on the manufacture, I know combustable gas detectors have to be calibrated monthly and bump tested at the start of ever shift, as an example

How does it know “why” a pump is running hotter than the other pump? Does it have diagnostic capabilities? Or do you mean that it only tells you the pump is running hotter than the other pump?

2:50 Zach is locked in his percentage comparison. Trying to catch the 1% as if every 100th data point will point to imminent disaster. I'm sure there are much smaller nuances that Spot will be able to make detectable with a solid baseline.
You're reading too far into his example, which has obviously been simplified for the purposes of the video.
Using machine learning/computing to analyze data to detect small diviations is a tall task for human in the loop analytics, for instance thermal data compared to flow, pressure, acoustics, etc. Is what he is referring to, that one point in time where the swish cheese holes line up is where failures begin to take place

Why not just have the thermal camera, acoustic monitoring, and gas sensors already in place in all the places where measuring that information is useful? And your guys are still right behind these robots all the time. BD has been at this for years and still just talking about what walking robots "could" do in heavily curated videos cutting all the times they fall over.

No, they are, but it requires many humans with clip boards to be walking around frequently looking at gauges and checking temperatures, and this can do the same thing, but get better data collection, and let the operators spend their time on fixing the issues rather than just searching for issues.
This is one use where robot dog actually makes sense lol
I guess a Spot is cheaper than a lot of sensors connected to the internet.

@@ke6gwf does it really? I'm sure upgrading the instruments to send data via radio would cost a lot cheaper that even single dog robot. Robots make sense in unknown hostile environments. If you want automatisation of something stationary, you better upgrade instead of using robots as a bandaid.

When are we going to start sending these robots to explore the Moon, Mars and other planets and moons? They don’t require food, oxygen or water, just a renewable source of energy. They are much more agile than the wheeled explorers we send now and could navigate any terrain far easier and faster. With the built in AI, they could look around and chose the best path to follow and map areas they have already traversed. The heck with digging around looking for water, I would much rather see the view from the top of Olympus Mons!

Yeah, that's the real talking point. It may be the case that spot is cheaper upfront but more expensive to operate (more maintenance) and that's why they chose it.
Stationary sensors are still superior, because they collect and transmit data continously. So if a imminent critical failure is only detectable for 1 hour before it happens, spot would probably miss it. Also, stationary sensor allow direct measurements of vibration, which is really valuable data that spot can't collect as well (only through imaging processing tricks)
That was somebody's job and it was probably a good paying job. To some people it may look monotonous or dangerous. To someone else it would be interesting. As far as danger goes, it it's that dangerous that you would not want a person there, you probably should do something about it. It's not like the robot is walking around Chernobyl.
