  • In the middle of a global labour shortage, the construction industry is being revolutionized by HRP-5P, a humanoid robot developed by Japan’s Advanced Industrial Science and Technology also known as AIST. Designed to perform heavy labour in hazardous environments autonomously, it offers a solution to the industry’s challenges. Persistent labour shortages, due to an ageing workforce and declining birth rates, have led to project delays and cost overruns. The HRP-5P, capable of tasks like drywall installation and shipbuilding, operates in human-designed environments without modifications.
In contrast, Apollo from Apptronik, Phoenix from Sanctuary AI, and Figure 01 from California-based Figure are being developed as more general-purpose humanoid robots aimed at a wider range of applications, including collaboration with humans in manufacturing and other industries. These newer robots are also exploring novel actuator designs and integrations with AI and machine learning technologies to enhance their capabilities.
While the HRP-5P is designed to handle a wide range of construction tasks, it may still lack the dexterity and adaptability of human workers, especially for highly complex or variable jobs. Specialized robots like Baubot, Dusty Robotics, and Data Fountain may be better suited for certain repetitive or well-defined tasks. Ensuring the reliable and safe operation of a large, powerful humanoid robot in a dynamic construction environment is a major engineering challenge. The HRP-5P must be able to navigate obstacles, avoid collisions, and respond appropriately to unexpected situations without endangering human workers.

this robot build for special use case it not general purpose, so i don't know if they are falling, but certainly they don't have anything to compare to the other robots.

Unlike figure this Japanese robot is actually helping the working class. Figure is to dumb to differentiate between plates and cups on a dish rack. As a construction worker I would love this HRP robot doing the dry wall lifting for me.

My dad was a construction worker and broke his back lifting 25kg cement bags all his life. HRP-5P or Baubot robot from Germany would have helped so much back in the day! These machines if well designed will certainly help in the long run.
