Probably the only video review/build on a KTM out of the possible hundreds I’ve watched over time. I’ve wanted this bike in almost any fashion for a long time. But no one ever edited a video of an upgrade video like this one, that I’ve seen yet. Awesome work, brother. Hats off to you. *drives to the local shop*
On my 2015 KTMRC 390 Racing Bike, my Favourite thing was to get rid of the Lead Acid Battery and fit a Lithium Ion Battery Instead. I don't want to tune it up. It's Fast enough to go screaming down the Road with the front wheel a foot above the ground with me leaning over the front of the Bike ! It's Eight yrs old now and is Running Fine !
I just installed the coober ECU, K&N filter, and coober airbox lid. Expensive but it definitely enhances the ride dynamics and smooths things out. A little extra power too and adds a nice throaty exhaust note.
@MybeautifulandamazingPrincess Thumpers are fun AF. Take it from a long time RC51 owner. My Duke390 is just fun and easy to lay in to corners. Super all around town bike.
That's awesome have fun, I'd recommend learning to drive for a while in a car, and then using that knowledge on a bike, rather than learning the road on a bike, but yolo!
I have owned a KTM RC390 2017 model and did almost all of these mods, and honestly save yourself the money. After spending over 1,500 the only thing which actually made the bike faster was the Rev limiter increase with the powertronic. If you really want some more speed get yourself a larger front sprocket and smaller rear sprocket as the bike already revs extremely fast. Don't mess with tyre sizes and shock springs unless you plan on taking the bike on track
@@c.a.marsupial.1282 Ideally keep the tire factory size, a larger tire means a larger contact patch which will make your bike more stable on straight roads and help with wheel spin ( which isn't a real issue on a 390 ) but you are sacrificing mobility as the bike will be harder to lean or turn. If you want to do it just make sure it's for the correct reasons :P and it suits your riding style
You can also lower your front forks in your triple clamp by 20mm to 25mm. It will give you better front end feel and cornering but not good for wheelie.
I've used the power tronic system with the quick shifter for a good while now on my 2014 model. i also use a 02 eliminator from dyno jet for a open loop. it really helps with the lower grunt for the bike, great combo with aftermarket exhaust and air box mod with k&n filter. I really liked the tire swap front and back. They add the aggresive look of the bike instantly Even the exhaust sounds great...rest I would leave on. Great jobbuddy, you have more skills to do the rest...

Stiffer spring: maxing out the clicks on the stock spring for resistance was insufficient for you? I've got my 125 at 10 clicks and I weigh 240lbs! I'm with you, I prefer the stiffer suspension as well. What final gear ratio are you using? I thought that would make your top 10.
Wider tires just add a bit more weight and slows down the dropping in to the corners. Wide tires are needed for traction but thus lil thing doesn't need that with its slippet clutch and fairly light weight.
If you don’t have any loudness issues in your country you can replace that on the exhaust. It is not the cat! It’s the premuffler. The cat is round and seats before the premuffler.
I have one of these, great little bike. I am in my 50's and don't need anything bigger and faster. What I have learned over the years is upgrading stuff, I have done both on cars and bikes, is a waste of money. If you want more, put the money into a new bike and change the 390 up to the 790.
@@ClintEwingFreestyle Hey Clint, thanks, what you did with yours is very interesting and the bike looks great. I am not pissing on what you did with yours in any way, I'm probably getting less inclined to spend money in my old age! By the way, I know another Clint Ewing in Ireland!
How about sprockets? I'm thinking of changing mine on my cb400, I only ever do city rides and max only hit 110kmh on highway (legal limit and I can't risk a single point)
That's not the Cat you are pointing to. It's the main canister. Cat is just above it on the other side of bike which your part does delete as well. I would remove the main canister as it weighs a tonne. Mufflers, without header and tuned mid section do little to nothing for power on the 390s, just noise. Best mod is ecu as they run way to lean from stock which makes them jerky down low and run hot. Should be way smoother now.
How is the handling on the larger tires? Is it getting pinched. One of the great things about the duke is the light flickability and steering. Is that effected? Thanks
Its just my opinion but I love the option of better tires (grp300) (q3) when you go up in size. I dont notice less flickability. Love the extra traction.

Hi! I guess I'm getting a bit of a midlife crisis lol, I have the itch for a motorcycle, and I'm still researching, it will be my 1st bike ever so I def don't want a 600cc or a 1000cc, this Duke is in my picks but I have a question and idk if is dumb or not, so this bike is considered a naked bike do to the windshield not present, if I want to take it on the highway 70-80 mph...... Would the wind be annoying hitting your body pushing you back compared to the sports bikes with the windshield? Again idk about bikes and pardon me if this is a dumb question, I would love to get a duke and ride it to work which is about 30mins of highway going with the car flow 70-80mph all the way. I don't have the bike and I love the fact that you can upgrade it and makes me want one even more lol, thanks for the vid
It's all about preference. If all you do is highway then I would suggest a windscreen or kicker to help. The 390 is versatile bike for around town and highway but for longer rides I would go with 690 or 790
@@ClintEwingFreestyle out of all the naked bikes that I have research so far the duke has the best performance that and you get good quality for your money, my co-worker (10 years riding sports bikes) says that the only down side is the cost of maintaining it, this is were Honda and suzuki beats the duke, idk if its true or not .
If you haven't ridden much before the wind will be a strange feeling. It's actually quite exhilarating, even at slower speeds you will feel much more appreciation for your speed than in a car. If you have decent gear though it won't be uncomfortable. Main thing is to get a smooth helmet, which will reduce drag and annoying whistles. Bark busters are another option.
@@petermitchell2729 thanks👍 to me it makes sense that with the right gear it will help, I was just not sure how much it helps with rhe wind, I'm in PA USA so there is no law to wear a helmet or any kind of gear, I see riders with just a shirt and jeans or shirts in their bikes, but I work in NJ so I thought of getting a good gear and a helmet that will make me feel comfortable cause I use glases, again thanks👍

I ended up using the powertronic ecu from @1fngr its less expensive and way more advanced with quick shifter and dyno map options
Thanks Clint. I will be doing some of your mods. Air filter lid and tyres definitely. Any ideas on brake updates?
I run 1fngr mount so I can run p34 footbrake

Hey man I’ve noticed 1finger doesn’t have much in parts anymore.., do you mind shooting me a text of a parts list to do to the 390?
actually they have more now, cages, clutches, brakes, handbrake, exhausts, air mod, p34 brackets, brake lines
Clint,
Is there a big difference between the KTM duke 390 and the KTM 390 adventure? Great info. Consider me a subscriber 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
1 for street and 1 for little bit of offroad adventure

@@99subigt no probs with mine and dont overthink it. Just ride!
Ok but what do I do with the left hand controls for the dashboard do I just relocate them or toss em ??big question
@lordslug3351 if don't use then unplug and keep them for later
I want that sound similar to the 790
Do you still own this bike? Cause I’m buying a 2019 duke out of Salem Oregon and it has that exact slip on exhaust
you guys didn't get knuckle guard as a stock? and that integrated grab rail for pillion is great...............
@clint Ewing do you have any intel on the TFT mount after upgrading the mount/bars?
No sir
Could you provide some more info on the racetech spring? Is that installed on the stock shock?
Yes took off rear spring and installed racetech instead for stiffer feel
@@ClintEwingFreestyle Great thanks for the input! Also, is the competition werkes exhaust you a direct bolt on to the newer 390 duke? i recall reading about a '16 header being needed?
@@ericlikewhoa side silencer is direct bolt on. In frame gp exhaust requires 2015-2016 Header.
Hey great video mate. I own duke 390 and have done 24k kms in last 2 years.
Recently I am facing engine hiccup problem in lower gears and between 4000-6000 rpm. Any idea what might be the cause??????
perhaps spark plug needs changing?
@@ClintEwingFreestyle it was recently serviced and spark plug was also changed just 1000kms back
Checked the air filter?
@@amalantonyabraham yes it's fine
What model year is it ?
How much are each of these? The exhaust need reprogramming the ECU? Thank you very much
Do you happen to have a link for that slip on exhaust. I've been looking for something of that sort of tough metal look but cant find anything in the uk

Hey bro what size tires you got on again and do they hit or rub on any thing. Just question I think I will go with size tire you put on . And how did they ride let me know thank you
I'm running 120 front avon sport and 160 rear. No rubbing and very happy with my choice
Clint Ewing sounds good I am going to try it out. Thank you
Clint, where did you find the Nissin brakes? Thanks!
Ebay
Do a walkaround on the girl!
She sold
I guess the company recommends to use the oem air filter if you're gonna use the filter lid what are your thoughts on that thanks for the video
I use the OEM in conjection with coober lid filter which seems to really smooth out the bike and better throttle reaction
