ur instructional vids are a massive help, 2 and a half years ago or so I properly started playing guitar and now im off to university to study music. Cheers man
Dave has struck gold with this guy... very personable very humble.. and more than willing to connect with the audience. And he also looks cool doing it you couldn't ask for more. I hope this lineup lasts
Hey Kiko! Kick Dave in the ass! I wanna hear the new Megadeth Album!!! We fans are already waiting forever now for the new Album. By the way, your new solo album is great stuff!
1:33 i have a 7 string guitar (Chris Boderick model btw) and intonation of the 7th string is very hard. But is something absolutely to recommend , principally for composers. You can tune the 7th string for you get a 4th with the 6th string, this gives a new harmonic universe btw i am just the 7 th son of 7th son
3:20 I was told by a guitarist in my town who'd been playing shows for 40 years- "If you feel no nerves at all before a show? There's no point in being up there anymore." Just as you said Kiko, I always took what he said to mean: If you don't feel passion about the songs you're playing, to the people you are playing to, regardless of your ability, you need to take a look at yourself and ask if what you're doing with your skills is right for *_you,_* and making you happy. Otherwise you're just practicing and having people pay to watch. Would you agree?
Being nervous and getting anxiety is different from getting excited. Nervous and anxiety is the negative loop when you think that things would not end well, or that you’re going to mess things up. He’s a professional, and he has big concerts experience, he’s not going to mess things up and there’s no need and makes no sense to feel that way, he clearly gets excited, which is feeling the anticipation of something good and pleasant. Do you want a surgeon nervous before a surgery on you? I don’t, and surgeons tend to love doing what they do best…
Kiko regarding your question on how close your fingers are to the strings...you are super patient and considerate, answering the question 2 times - wonderful! :)
I knew you might think the way you told about Megadeth's music.. I think the same ...and so with different musics or "levels" of music No music is more or less difficult, to say, each and everyone is nice and has different difficulties no matter how it seems! Thanks for sharing your popints of view with all of us!
The bus engine vibration on this video is so real that I tough it was some king of engine near my apartment, but then, I stopped the video and it is gone.
Hi, Kiko! I've been playing since i was a kid, i'm 30yo now. Always played in bands, it was my main income for years. But being a hired musician i became tired with the lack of money security, getting out of clubs at 5am while my wife was alone between other things. So i started Music College on classical guitar, i'm on the fifth period but i feel like my study routine is making me tired of playing, i feel no more joy on playing my guitar or writing a song. It became a study object when before it was a way of me being free and creative. What advice do you have for me? I feel like i shoud drop out and change my major.
i am not a guiter player...but i love music.and i love kiko's guiter playing.other than as a guiter player,i think he is also a good man as a ordinary man and as a father.i often see his daughters during his playing in his videos...thats the best part i think ❤️
I just want to say your the perfect guitarist for Megadeth, your "jazz bossa" influences mixed with Dave's heavy metal approach is just a match made in Heaven. the Q&A is very helpful. I just want to ask since Dave said your the best guitarist Megadeth has ever had. Do you still find some Megadeth solos or riff hard to play? and does he allow you to play or modify the solo of Marty differently? Cheers!
Glad you are in Megadeth. The "youth" in you helps. You are also really talented. Dave's talent in song writing/composing is amazing as well. You guys are good together. I hope neither ego gets too big. I would like to hear some older style Megadeth for a bit.
I'm really happy that you are uploading videos like this! I don't know very many musicians in very popular rock/metal bands doing such true behind the scene videos! Kudos Kiko!
Kiko! Could you make a video talking about the time leading up to your first performance with Megadeth and what kind of emotions and thoughts were going through your head leading up to playing live for the first time with them? Love your youtube man!
Having a very correct way of fretting helps with the pressure, like you say. And having this correct hand position with your playing it helps A LOT when you try to actually play a fretless guitar for example. I have one of Ron’s double necks here and by trying the fretless I realized that I have a very “clean” finger positioning
Hey dude, I've just discovered your channel and I just wanted to say how much I love it. It's great to see a little bit of your life on the road and some cool lessons thrown in there too! I don't know how, but at 53 years old and loving rock since I was 6 years old and playing guitar since 9, for some odd reason Mega Death passed me by until now. Your channel has drawn me to their music, and also your solo stuff, which I'll be buying in the very near future. Thank again Kiko. You rock dude🤟🤟❤️
High respect for you, Kiko. I feel like you you are even greater human being and have higher heart than your musical and guitar skills... that's something to emulate for a better world.
Hi Kiko, you're the best Megadeth lead guitarist I've had the chance to see live. What is your favorite song to play live? And who do you think is the best Megadeth guitarist in the band's history?
Floyd Rose string changing tip, either block the bridge with a piece of wood or change one string at a time. Expert Level Bonus Tip: Only change the strings that break Master Elite level Bonus Tip: Salvage strings off of your other, less awesome guitars
Kiko, I am new to your channel and enjoying it very much ! so thank you very much for your time. There is a tool that you can buy called a shredneck trem block, but to me the other methods ... cards battery etc. work as good. Also you can use the cover plate from the guitar as well. I have not searched all of your videos (yet) so you may have already done a video about my question ... but I wish you would do a video about adjusting the action on a floyd rose set up. Thanks again and I wish you well for the rest of the tour ! I like the action to be as low as possible without fret buzz ..........
Question for your next q&a: how do you deal with hand/arm pain? Lately my arms and hands get tired and hurts more than some years ago. Granted, I'm old, and im a programmer so i use my hands a lot, but still it should be less than you playing a tour. Thanks for what you do!
Thank you for being an ultra cool fan friendly person! The way you kindly answer questions shows great character! My question would be about how you handle consistently loud concert volume in regard to your hearing. I am guessing you use in ear monitor style solutions, but are there any other things that you do to limit hearing impact of loud settings? Thank you in advance! 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
Hey I wasn't complaining, Kiko 😂. I was just trying to offer a different perspective. To me it sounded like the person asking wanted to know why you're closer to the fret wire but I could be wrong. Either way your explanation was clear whether or not the person was asking about the distance between your fingers and the fret board or your fingers and the fret wire when fretting. Thank you!
It's all about economy of movement. It takes a lot of finger movement, a lot of dexterity, and when you're playing at very high speed your fingers are getting quite a workout. When your fingers are not hammering the strings put pressing just hard enough, you're getting more efficiency of movement. If you press too hard, especially on large frets, you will go sharp, and everything will sound very off. It's all about serving the music so you can give it your all, not spread yourself too thin. Playing guitar at a top level is like being a top-level athlete, a marathon runner, and you have to pace yourself and expend your energy efficiently.
Chris from the first question put mine from your previous video in better words, thats exactly what i wanted to know. my theory was that maybe you do it because when your finger is closer to the fretwire then it becomes more comfortable to bend and vibrato the string, but i wasnt sure. thank you for the answer!
I have a floyd rose ibanez as well and in the begining I HATED changing the strings but many years ago I made a stack of coins and wrapped them in tape, fits perfectly in the back and works like a charm, I'm no 7 minutes record but yeah, 10-15 mins sounds about right
@Kiko Loureiro I've been enjoying a few of your videos lately. Not sure if it's convenient with your process, but adding a low-pass filter @ 60hz or so before export on the audio track(s) would sure help kill the low end rumble present on some clips on good speakers.
Awesome Kiko! Thanks for doing all this videos it is very fun to see the other side of the stage and to show your fans you really care! you are very authentic you rock!
Here's a trick, leave the ball end on each string and feed the plain ends through the tuner posts and pull towards the Floyd and cut to length allowing about an inch or so, clamp in the bridge, that way you only have to cut each string once and the ball end acts like a locking tuner, plus none of the messing around wrapping and over locking the strings around the tuner posts to stop slipping
Kiko. Love your playing ! Wishing the best that life has to offer you. Love that you are so balanced as a person. How's your tendonitis? What you are doing to stay healthy. Looking forward to more incredible things yet to come ! ❤
Hello Kiko. I am interested in the string-setup of your guitar. I can only play fast if the strings are real close to the setup. So close that I almost have fret-buzz. How about your string-hight? Gheers
Hi kiko....... A maravilhosa in motion, obra prima, som contagiante sem hipocrisia falando.....
You are the best...thanks for your sincerioty and humbleness! And, by the way, I am so happy following the Guitar Evolution Course , I truly recommend it!! Every video class is a goldmine!
I’ve always had people ask me if i get nervous playing in front of crowds. And, i never have, in the sense that i feel a nervous type of fear, but rather a nervous type of energy. And that energy can be your friend. Keeping it and using it makes for a great performance! I’ve never played before ten thousand, but I’ve played to a few thousand. And i find smaller venues way more fun, because you’re face to face, and it’s really intimate. Remember, it’s all fun. All the screw ups, the cracks in your voice, and the perfect nights! it’s all part of the journey!
Always enjoy seeing a good video on changing strings on a floyd. Have you done one yet? A lot of people seem to do things slightly different. I was getting pretty decent at it but the drop tuning killed me. It’s strange there isn’t a universal tool yet or a little screw to secure it. I use the back plate.
Thank you so much for providing the insight into rehearsals and your tour -bus. Regarding placing the fingers right behind the fret: I only heard this with bass guitars to keep string buzz down. I don't believe regular guitars have this problem played in the center of frets cuz the frets are closer together. Even on the bass guitar as one goes up toward the pickups the frets getting over where it's no longer as required to play right after the fret as it would be in the first second third and fourth fifth frets up from the tuning pegs.
Kiko. I have never commented on a video ever. Angels Cry saved metal in 1993. I was just watching the 20th anniversary concert. It must feel nice to have Uli Jon Roth riff on your solo on Wuthering Heights with the sky guitar. Simple minded brain, for now you succumb Nothing changes your way
Hey Kiko you are amazing I think you are as good as Marty maybe even better in your own way. Respect and love from Turkey. And I liked your answer about restriction musically in Megadeth. I was always wondering about that topic thank you.
Hello Keiko, its is really great that you offer some back ground perspective to a touring Mega-Band. I wonder, when you improvise fast: Do you really have time to think scales, or modes, or do you rely on muscle memory shapes or do you literally think in thirds and 5th and flat 7th or wahtsoever. How do you mentally maneuver? Greetings from Germany and looking forward to fianlly seing you live once :)
To keep the fingers close to the fretwires is way easier to get a clean note, avoiding fretbuzz and making way less pressure against the strings! If you don't believe me, try to position your fingers far from the fretwire making the note, almost playing half tone down, and see what happens!
Bro I just discovered you a few days ago and I noticed something really interesting!! You are left handed but you play guitar right handed!? That's really amazing, I've never seen that before
Hi Kiko! Tell us about your guitar works on Aurora Consurgens. It's a great job that we don't hear you talk about it. The intro from Salvation Suicide is killing.
ur instructional vids are a massive help, 2 and a half years ago or so I properly started playing guitar and now im off to university to study music. Cheers man

Thanks for the response Kiko 👍
Hi master thank you so much really!!!!
Explain about guitar tones and all please
There are no words to describe my love for this guy… Such a big inspiration

Thanks for being such a down to earth person, Kiko, let alone a phenomenal guitarist!
Second question: can you name some pop (or non-metal / hard rock at least) bands that you enjoy listening now and then?
Vc é uma pessoa muito simples. Aproximar-se do público é uma atitude muito legal.
Obrigado!
How often do you sing backup in the current set? Do you like singing and playing? Have you ever wanted to sing lead on any of your solo work?
Love the behind the scenes interactions with the crew members! Keep em coming Kiko!
You're a legend. It can feel addictive playing to huge crowds.

I noticed that playing close to the fret makes muting the string easier with the left hand, avoiding buzz in transitions

You're on top, and it's a great thing to celebrate.

That's very true. I've been gigging for few years but playing in front of who i know makes my head empty.
You're such a mellow kool guy, thanks for making all the videos, it's interesting to see your life in music.

That's really amazing, I've never seen that before
Hey Kiko, would you ever be able to make a video to explain your journey as a guitarist?
Hi Kiko! Can you describe Dave Mustain as guitarist and your relationships between you inside band? Thank you from Russia!
I still have a cassette Angra-tample of shadow
And i think it's the best album ever.
There.. you explore music a lot.

Hi Kiko! Tell us about your guitar works on Aurora Consurgens. It's a great job that we don't hear you talk about it. The intro from Salvation Suicide is killing.
