These controllers are always cool but I wish they'd come feature complete. Usually they're missing either vibration or gyro or they only function attached. I'd be willing to pay more for one of these without compromise if they made them.
exactly👍 the best alternative at this time would be the "BINBOKS" nice big manly controllers🤣 for when you need all those missing features that you stated but is also comfortable at the same time..
People like talking about how Binbok has Gyro and Wireless, but the compact is overall more comfortable. It really makes something like the OLED feel like a Switch-Lite in hand. This matters because if you've ever had a Lite in hand, then you know it feels ergonomically better in hand then a Standard Model with Joycons
I had the exact same reaction to the d-pad and thought I was on crazy pills that zero reviewers mentioned it. The analogs are fine but the d-pad is a big step down from the pro. Personally my right thumb also kept rubbing against the right stick when reaching for B or Y. I feel like its really only suitable for smaller hands. If your hands fit a Pro then you should go for that.
Wonder if there is a rubber membrane that fits as a replacement under the dpad? I sent my compacts back because it was way too stiff. loved the Pros dpad, but made the Switch too bug. The original Hori dpad joycon is too small. Shame each one has a flaw that any of the others fixed. I find companies often do this.l always one mistake away from being great.
Bought the Red Split Pads Compact a couple of days ago for a cheap price in Japan and I'm really satisfied with them. Much more comfortable than my Nitro Deck
I literally threw my joycons out the window a LONG time ago because I hated them that much lmao. I've been riding the 3rd party controller train ever since.
I got these for Christmas and it’s pretty good, played blazblue central fiction And Persona 4 arena ultimax on it and did some combos. Took awhile to get use to them but I like them!
I would gladly pay more if Hori would just add all the functions of a normal joycon. Since I already have the regular split pad, I'll wait for a deep discount before picking these up.
Hey Nihongo gamer, have you hear about the Mobapad M6 Gemini? Its basicallya combinastion of these and the split pad pro but its all microswitched (facebuttons as well) with rumble and gyro etc included (no Bluetooth thought) Its all just a bit more premium and build better. They're a bit pricey, i think 80 bucks for the controllers + a case to fit the switch w/ controllers in it but i've hear a lot of good things about it.
I'll go out on a limb and say the d-pad's position isn't for fighting games, but for 3D games that you'll play in handheld for extended sessions. It's not my preference but that's the largest player base Hori can appeal to, so it makes business sense. EDIT: Whelp, never mind. You mentioned it already.
Hello friend been a subscribe for a couple of years now and I noticed you still have that Splatoon 2 sticker on the back on your switch so good to reminisce keep up the great work and keep the coffee going ☕️😂☺️
Haha thanks for noticing! Yeah I just can’t find any reason to remove it so I’ve just left it on. Maybe I’ll buy a new one if they’ve got a splatoon 3 sticker
The higlight yellow or green and white color combinations remind me of Psvita. Never had one, but Vita looks like it'll feel so good in the hands with the material chosen for it's hardware.
Thank you, unlike other reviews, you really go after what i'm most interested with these hori products, let me ask you, what's yout favorite hori joycon so far?
His favourite seems to be the small hori joycon (specifically the left) because of the dpad. My advice (like Mark from The Electric Underground), mix and match that left joycon with the small Hori joycon and the left split pad pro, with the right split pad pro on the right.
I want to say the original, small blue d-pad joycon is my favorite but mine has got old from years of use so I’m gonna buy a new one. That way I can see how it feels fresh for comparison
I don't play my Switch not docked without my Split Pad Pros. These seem like a good pair to bring while traveling. Will need to get a new case though. Here we go again...
been eyeing these since there has been many videos covering them, but its such a pity. even games like mario odyssey Overwatch cant be played well since theres no gyro controls. what a miss for hori, guess nintendo still wants people to use their official joycons instead
I should definitely look into the Split Pro Controller because I have bigger hands and am learning motion aiming for Splatoon, the regular joycons are just a bit too small for me and the full controller motion aiming kinda annoys me. But that Splot Pro just might be exactly what I need.
I have the original one and I am good with them. I wanted a pair of these. I mainly use em for casual gaming but some nintendo games rely a lot on rumble for features or secrets. without at least classic rumble I see no point for this... if they are your first split pad, this look way sleeker and the thumbtacks are miles better than the joy cons. honestly id pay 80 to 90 if these were fully packed with every joy con feature.
Barely use my switch, but some of the 3rd party controllers for it are great. Been using the 8bitdo lite 1 controller as my portable everyday backpack carry controller for laptop and android and it's great for everything but fps
I can’t stand the rise bump on the side of the joy con near the screen I got the first one because their was no other option but since they didn’t get ride of the rise bump I’ll just stick to my original
Unless ur trying to waste my time by telling me to get an app I never heard of and then ghost me, it's not funny. Also, I already got my hori joycons and they work fine
Soon as I got a Split Pad Pro, I've never looked back. I actually sold my regular joycons, because I never want to use those. They're so uncomfortable to play in handheld, and when I'm docked I got my Pro controller. I even bought a special travel case that the Split pads fit in. Only thing I'm concerned about is drift in the future. I'm gonna need to buy some back ups. As far these compact joycons go, these still look kinda big imo, so not much reason to go with them over the split pad pros. They still make the Switch too big to fit in a normal travel case, so I'm not sure what the market is for these.
I really liked the split pad pro. Specially the triggers at the back, it was much easier on the hands not to have to rely on the top triggers that much. And the turbo is incredibly OP in Mario maker versus.... But the Dpad one fell and it cracked absurdly.... At the end I ended up getting into FPS so i didn't buy another one, since I wanted the gyroscope. For the dpad I modded my left joycon using the extremeRate kit. It's not perfect but it's good enough for Mario Maker and Tetris Effect. This compact version looks really sexy af tho. I am so tempted..
Man I just bought those new hori controller a week ago and let me tell you so far so good I'm so happy with it I don't care about rumble or gyro longer I can used it handheld I purchased the first split pad but I end up taking back because was to big and I couldn't play games with it was to Big but this new ones are the perfect one for me I recommend it
Hey, that's funny. I just asked for a video similar to this a week or so ago! As someone who plays BBTAG on switch. I went through three different sets of controllers before I decided to move to the ps4. Even though the split pad controller looks cool. I don't usually play fighting games undocked. I was kind of looking for a controller for the switch that is similar to a GameCube controller without the fear of joy con drift. Maybe you can make a docked version of this video someday that focuses on other controller types other than the joy cons. Just a thought.
Man I wish these joycons came out last year a couple months ago when I was so playing my switch OLED but ever since I got my steam bag I haven't even touched my switch and I don't think I'll ever go back to it I might for Pokemon but I hear that I could run that on my steam deck I'd better frame rates and despite not having an old screen the fact that it runs PS5 games on the go and runs games from last generation at optimal performances is insane makes the switch look like a toy
There are so many worthwhile options now, going without decent rumble, motion control, not to mention no NFC / Bluetooth or IR. And these split pad pros also can’t turn the left side and the right side into a controller each, hindering your ability to quickly game with a friend without additional equipment. I like Nintendo, I have two switches and have more games than I’ve ever gonna play. hardware, Nintendo never has, and never will allow for proper competition when it comes to accessories and hardware.
You know what I’m gonna say it. I’m over dpads. Short analog sticks like the joycon I feel is great for menu and platformers. I also feel the classic plus dpad is overrated. If it ain’t a dpad like the Sega Saturn I’d take a joy one like stick instead of a dpad
These controllers are always cool but I wish they'd come feature complete. Usually they're missing either vibration or gyro or they only function attached. I'd be willing to pay more for one of these without compromise if they made them.

@@WheeledHamster no, I demand better.
@@WheeledHamster gyro isn't a gimmick lmao.
@@WheeledHamster Using the Joycons separately and wirelessly isn’t a gimmick either

Pre-ordered 3 sets of these. Love the split pad pro. Can't wait to try them out!
I just bought these yesterday and I love them a lot more than the first version
Is the d-pad any good for 2d fighting games?
How accurate are the joysticks compared to regular joycons and compared to the switch pro controller?
Better than Joycons, as good as Procon
Split pad pros were great for me. This will be great for younger people who can't deal with how big that is.
I am not particaularly young, but dude the split pad was massive and so ugly to look at
The compact is good for adults with smaller hands.
@@ryuseiikari2781 So true man. And that big overhang around the edges of the screen is so ugly. I just can't do it man.
Amazing dpad review, thanks for saving me some money. I'll stick with my current hori split pad pro for now
I had the exact same reaction to the d-pad and thought I was on crazy pills that zero reviewers mentioned it. The analogs are fine but the d-pad is a big step down from the pro.

You didn't mentioned that the rear buttons can only be binded with the buttons which ever side they're on.
Yeah I’ve covered that in previous split pad videos so I didn’t mention it this time. Wanted to focus on the D-pad

This is actually the best joycon made in my opinion, despite having to be attached in handheld or paying another $80 USD for wired connection.

Do the analogue sticks have much deadzone at all with these? I'm really sensitive to it but i'm interested in this controller.

I'm sorry, "write me"? How? Not really familiar with the updated slang lingo
In case u weren't aware, I messaged u on telegram

Definitely wouldn't be enough to notice.

I don’t use a case for my switch anymore.
Wtf? I just bought these like a week ago and now you’re making a video on it? Haha
Does it have vibration?
No
I'm surprised you haven't upgraded to the oled version yet
Been considering it actually but I don’t have much use for a new Switch when everything I wanna play is on steam deck
The oled isn't worth the "upgrade" especially when you have a modable v1 switch

Welp if it had the same Dpad as the split pad pro it would really be great.
You only need one joycon with gyro, so hori small dpad con works great for handheld. You can slap that into a grip for comfort.
Flappy lappy is anatomically correct
I doubt nintendo will ever make or allow a licensed 3rd party to make a fully featured joy-con alternative, all we really have are the binboks.
If they did no one would buy nintendo joycons

I can’t believe no one created a right joycon with 6 face buttons yet.
👆 This 👍! I've been requesting one for years.
A gummy-feeling D-pad that can't perform special moves in fighting games without excessive force is not my definition of "comfort."

I also have the Steam deck but the d-pad and shoulder buttons are just terrible.
I need a joycon with a clickier dpad, I am spoiled with the one on the xbox series s/x controllers
I took my switch controllers off. And replaced them with oatmeal.
Understandable
Yes! Someone else who wants the d-pad and stick positions to be switched.
Almost perfect but no rumble is a deal breaker for me.
It's time to get an OLED my guy that switch looks bad and old lol i know you have a Steam Deck so do I but i also have an OLED 😎

So cringe when somebody treat consoles or anything like that
The ONLY knock I have on this is the asymmetrical joysticks. The DualShock 4 is the greatest controller of all time.
The daulsense is the greatest controller of all time i can't go back to the ds4 it feels like a flimsy toy in comparison
And still no vibration.
