Waste Management’s Brand New and First BYD Electric Amrep ASL!!

- Here we have an unexpected find last Tuesday, when I was asleep and then heard a back up alarm and looked through my window and thought it was a truck, but it was a moving truck, but when I looked right side of my window and BAM, this was backing up and picking up my trash! Pretty much like when I saw the New Way Sidewinder immediately got up and got to film it. Behind the wheel is my new trash driver Jerry and told me that he was driving one of the rental trucks (not sure which one it was, but will have it again) and it broke down. So he went back to the yard and let him use this one! He also told me that he was only using it last week, so I don’t know who’ll use it next. My first impression was okay, it was really fast and smooth, it stalled few times and lurched a lot. The cycle was fast and smooth too and was impressed with it. The few things that I didn’t like, was the cab design, which it’s almost identical to Peterbilt 320/520s and was very quiet, so we’ll have to hear closely to the cycle. I do like the sign stickers with the new WM logo and the tailgate uses the newer caution tail lights and my favorite yellow arm! I think that’s all to cover about it and I hope you enjoy this nice and first WM BYD electric truck!

This truck ran surprisingly smooth as compared to WRs truck, loved how quick the arm speed was and the acceleration, loved how you could still hear the still quiet air around you. Awesome video!

I definitely agree that looking at it from the side this truck has a cab that definitely looks a lot like a Peterbilt 320/520
Awesome video! Man it's cool that your WM yard had one of these. You're right it's very smooth. It's definitely quiet, so it could easily sneak past. The driver went quick in it as well. Love that he lid flipped. The yellow arm makes this truck even cooler, and with the simple plain logo. Glad you was able to hear it and film it. Great work as always Victor!

Crazy how in the cul-de-sacs the loudest thing is the tire scrub against the pavement. From an enthusiast's point of view the Amrep is plenty entertaining on its own, not like new CNG trucks sound all that great anyway. From a driver’s perspective, that fast take off and quiet work environment must make for a much less tiring day. BYD cab is ugly, but otherwise I'm ready for my next front loader to be electric.
BYD launched electric garbage truck in Spain two years ago. BYD was the manufacturer of electric vehicles battery and supplier of Tesla cars blade battery.
I have never really liked electric trucks, but now that I see this, this is actually pretty cool! I love the accel sound! Nice video!

It really does charge forward for tomorrow haha. Great vid! Of all the electric truck models currently on the market I could totally see them buying Macks, at least somewhere in the country. Despite me liking cart variety, the new color coding in the brand new neighborhood in the beginning is just too out of wack. I thought he was mixing at a few houses at first.

I'll admit to being a little upset I wasn't the first to see this but you did a fantastic job filming this surprisingly impressive truck. The acceleration on it is actually insane and the cycle is practically LA city speed. Pretty funny the brakes sound like an LE/Octo. Not surprisingly this thing is sitting in the shop right now because BYD can't make a reliable vehicle worth a dime. Glad you have Jerry as your driver, I haven't seen him in almost 2 years, really cool guy.

At around 3:55 was this operator mistake or something to do with the electric motors and brakes engaging or disengaging? I've driven an electric car and found that reversing and drive tend to do that

Yeah that BYD made an electric garbage truck! And it's so quiet until the automatic garbage process starts...someone really needs to make that part quieter too

Remember when Waste Resources tried it and it was a fail..... It looks nice and all and sure speeds off like lightning. Should have picked out something other then an amrep but then again. That would not be the smartes choice unless it was a Sidewinder like Green Waste Palo Alto. I'm with you on the back lights they look cool. I'm curious as to why they haven't put the fleet number on my guess is that they are not sure about incorporating it in just yet. Now imagine if it had a White tone back up alarm.. You'd miss that one if you wouldn't hear it. Nice video, great catch on it. I was hoping someone would film it after seeing the teasers on Instagram.
That “sidewinder” is actually a Curbtender and has been sitting in the BYD yard in Lancaster for over a year now lmao

@@CoolHandMacc I'm pretty sure they sit in the yard unless there used which will shock me because those trucks would stall every 3 stops.

Drivers on trash. The new trash bins are black and the old ones used to be blue, our recycling bins have changed to blue when they used to be green, and our yard waste bins have changed to green when they used to be gray. Quite confusing but oh well.

Why cant this WM stick with pete instead of going to BYD
From my critical point of view, Chinese vehicle manufacturers can't stand anything. Moreover, no matter how aesthetically well-crafted they may be, they may have factory defects mechanically. I don't even know if there are dealerships and/or workshops for Chinese manufacturers in the US. In addition, trucks from American manufacturers such as Autocar, Kenworth, Peterbilt, Mack, etc., do last longer than a Chinese one. I think Chinese truck manufacturers have more faults than Japanese truck manufacturers like Mitsubishi Fuso, Isuzu, UD Trucks, Hino, etc.
For gas cars maybe, for EV ? Not at all, I only see Tesla as the only real rival for Chinese EV companies
@@weiliao7642 Well. That is a separate topic. But what I said earlier was my point of view from the European market. However, in the Latin American market, cars and trucks from Chinese manufacturers come out more to them because they are much cheaper than those of leading brands such as the brands mentioned in the previous comment.
