You need to know where you stay in Santiago and Santo Domingo. Those are big cities with a lot upscale hoods but there are bad reas also. Puerto plata, Las Terrenas, Punta Cana and other small cities you are pretty much safe every where.
The ongoing expansion makes Santiago look chaotic. It has never been a tourist destination and its people (Santiagueros) are very proud of that fact. @@TravelWithMuhamed it's the mtume hotel and casino. That was where they fought the rebels, and the us Marines. It has significant historical history and museum You can see where mostly closer to Spanish whites fought the wars. Now you see a huge mixed population

@@TravelWithMuhamed In Santiago the vast majority are light skins, there was almost no african concentration in that city back in the days, the only reason why they aint purely white is bec they mixed with the rest of the country. Black skinned dominicans are usually in Santo Domingo but in Santiago the vast majority that are dark skinned are haitians honestly. But good video tho!
Thanks for watching. I didn't make it to Santo Domingo, I traveled to about five towns while I was recording. I saw light and dark skin Dominicans everywhere I went.
Many people seem to forget that dominicans are the first africans in the trans-atlantic slave trade by a century since before France even invaded and then by the mid 17th century brought in today's haitians. Dominicans rather go by their nationality than segregating themselves by their race as seen in the US. The problem know Is what haitians have done to them and how they're invading the DR today. The invasion is as drastic if not more than many countries in the world including the US.
Invasion is a bit harsh you think? Is America being invaded like DR? I'm all for spreading love! I hope you enjoyed the video, that was my true purpose for creating it!
I grew up in Chicago, Baptist are known for long services but not that long! I went to two different churches while I was in Santiago and they both were long 3-4 hours!
I'm not sure, I was moving around a lot while I was there to get a feel of the whole city. It was the same as any major city in the US, you'll have some good and bad areas. The area to me wasn't bad because I grew up around it.
The capital floods often and I see bad news every once in a while in SD este. Currently living in a smaller town, looking to move to Santiago. I agree, I think it's better
I couldn't even sleep cause of the music. I'm down for music, but not when I'm trying to sleep. People blasting music aaaaaaaall night. That's the only thing that was a bit annoying.
That was a hit and miss for me while I was there. I did learn that the police will patrol the nicer neighborhoods and tell people to turn the music down. I was surprised to hear that. They love music here, if you need peace and quiet to sleep I can see it being a problem.
That will depend on the place you´re staying. We actually hate that lol, but people that live in ´´bad neighborhoods´´ or too centric areas are used to it.

I am looking at the people and environment, and it does not look like most other parts of the DR. In fact, it looks different or more similar to south or central America. Why did you end up going to Santiago? It's not really a city where tourist go visit. It's more of a business location. You don't go there unless have something specific to do.
Because this is where actual Dominicans live. The other areas are descendants of black non-Hispanics who migrated in the early 1900’s to work in the sugar industry. You go to Samana on the north east coast and it’s decendants of black Americans who came in the mid 1800’s. Ppl don’t understand actual Dominicans with total Dominican ancestry are the same populations you see in Cuba, and Puerto Rico. A lot of the ppl you see in those countries actually migrated from DR in the early 1800’s because of Haiti’s revolt on the other side of the island. Of course when Dominicans state all this out loud it’s perceived as “racist”. It’s anything but. It’s just reality. Santiago will never be a tourist destination for a reason. It can’t be. El Cibao is the last place actual Dominicans feel comfortable.
@@daverolling1435 -WOW those are interesting points you made. Thanks for the info. Now I know what you mean which explains the differences among or between the various regions of the DR.
@@guillermone1 yup even when you speak to Dominicans in other regions all you have to do is ask where is the best place to go to know true Dominican culture. They’ll point you to Santiago or El Cibao which is the region encompassing Santiago. Reason being that’s the original capital. The original and actual Dominicans and not descendants of foreigners who came much later. A great example is Boston Celtics Al Horford. His last name is Horford which is an English last name. His dad and grandparents are from the Bahamas. They came to cut sugarcane in the early 1900’s. Whenever you see “black” Dominicans, the reality is they have non-Hispanic black ancestry somewhere at some point

To bad there medical is a chop house all they need to do is fix that
I've heard it's bad if you aren't paying for a good plane. I don't know.
Please, don’t mess up our beautiful Santiago. You people already destroyed Sosua image with the passport bros propaganda.
You people?! Check out all of my content before you say "YOU PEOPLE"
Sosua had a bad image way back in the day due to German and Italian sex tourists. Passport bros is a recent thing.
Oh ok, I did not know this
You people......bro your own people destroy many....relax
What was the name of the neighborhood in Santiago where the Airbnb is that you stayed in that is dangerous?
I'm already gone, it was southeast
@@TravelWithMuhamed Oh ok! I'm glad all went well. I've traveled to Santiago and DR in general many times. I know of one neighborhood that is dangerous in Santiago. It's called barrio Cienfuegos. It's very noisy and has a high crime rate.
Oh ok. When you're in the neighborhood you can tell it wasn't the best but it's way different from American neighborhoods. I walked around with no problem.
