You've got give up the name of the club.Thank You for Sharing and paying Homage To A Jazz Legend.P.S.I first saw her in a club in Philly Called (JUST JAZZ) 22nd & Arch Street. Its important to past the music baton of Who,When,And Where. So more people will know the History.I to use to hangout at the Bottom Line,Village Gate and other clubs in the Lower East Side of New York City Too.😊😊😊
I saw Nancy sing this with her Miss Otis Regrets segue at The Blue Note a few times. Both performances are beautifully done - each is different (my late dad loved Nancy Wilson)
I love Carmen and this is my favorite version of the song, but New Faces was in 52, not 55 and the "somebody else" who sang it was June Carroll, who also wrote it. Hello, David, if you ever watch these things. We were in the D.U. together a couple of centuries ago. P.S. If you like Carmen doing this, listen to her doing The Night Has A Thousand Eyes.
This 1990 rendition of “Guess Who I Saw Today” is somewhat different from her mid-fifties track for Decca on the “Afterglow” album. Both are terrific. Sorry, but Nancy Wilson just doesn’t get to the places Carmen McRae does. The young musicians working with her here are excellent. I never realized Carmen wrote this song until I saw this clip just now. What talent!
Carmen didn’t write this song. It was written by Murray Grand and Elisse Boyd and first performed by June Carroll In the Broadway revue “New Faces of 1952” (not 1955, Carmen’s error). Easy to hear “wrote” instead of “heard” in the UA-cam audio. It’s on Carmen’s 1957 album “Afterglow”-good but much more conventionally phrased than this terrific live performance decades later.
Carmen can't be replaced. That phrasing and tone are just too much. I wish I'd been into her in the 80's. However she died when I was like 10 or 12. Dang.
This is my favorite version, but New Faces was in 52, not 59 and the "somebody who sang" Guess Who I Saw Today in the show was June Carroll who also wrote it. Hello, David, wherever you are. We were in the D.U. together.
Lot's of people have sung this song, for sure. And, many are great. But, IMO and many other SINGER'S opinions, the ultimate version is by Marvelous Marilyn Maye. She absolutely "tells the story" the best, and without any un-needed drama - the un-needed drama takes away from the original song, melody and lyric. Her version is on UA-cam - check it out. James
you are so right. I remember I learned of her death when i was coming back from France. I was thinking it was a trip in 1989, but I was there in 1990 as well. I think it was in late May or early June.
This is amazing to see Carmen have that tight phrasing and control. and this is 1990 What year did she do the Sarah Vaughan tribute album? I know shortly after that she passed away.
Not only she sings, she interprets it too, what an inspiration
She was my neighbor in N Y. Lovely person and what a singer
I saw 1 Carmen McRae show in the East Village NYC . I didn't go back stage, but LOVE HER. MARTINA PATRICIA GUEST.

she's absolutely spellbinding
She sang it the best !
An all time favorite.
I love carmen...she is my favorite. My favorite rendtiion of this song is performed by Nancy
I also love Nancy Wilson's version, but Carmen is such a presence--she can just sit and smile and blow me away!

Amazing
Carmen? Nancy? Different, but very beautiful versions of the same song. How can one not cry when listening to both versions of the song?
Edie Gorme 's version was the best. Nancy 's was great but Edie's was a
wee bit better.
@@joanmulhall2382 Carmen McRae naturally did it best (1957)
Feeling and lovely
So beautiful
Adorei, Muito gingado Bacana!!
I've heard and love mostly all versions and Chante Moore blows everyone away!
"Dedicated to You" was released in 1990. Sarah Vaughan passed in 1989.

Thanks for that history! I truly love that song!
For fans who love this, and dont know 'Live at the Great American Music Hall' go for it! Still not on Spotify but its worth the search
WOW look at scott so young...he sounds so different

Buenísimo. Sensacional
I love Carmen, but Nancy Wilson does the definitive version of this song - IMHO
No Sarah died in 1990, I saw her LIVE in 1989 in Boston, and a year later she died. Dedicated to You must have been shortly thereafter.
❤❤❤

But eldorado5960, she's extraordinary ....
Devastating.
