Work in real estate development, use PL for everything: see who’s building what & how many, gauging infrastructure completion, weeding out possible acquisitions, estimating timber maturity. The alternative is relying on a combo Google earth (dog shit) & keeping a dozen drone pilots on retainer throughout the state of florida for real time imagery. Really a no-brainer. Was in negations to purchase a site, GE wasn’t updated recently enough to show a cell tower being built in middle of property, spotted with PL, re-negotiated price substantially lower. Wasn’t aware they’re public, I have some Spire shares but will definitely add planet to the portfolio.
Yo it's awesome to hear more Real estate use cases! I didn't mention RE because I figured that 3 meter resolution wasnt enough detail for effective data. Glad to hear it rocks for you! Feel bad about the indie drone pilot industry though.
Thanks for the video! I have my undergrad and masters in Geospatial Sciences. This company is just getting started. The field is growing so fast it’s crazy. The lower pricing on satellite launches has catapulted our industry.
Great video! Love this company would love a part 2 in the future as they continue to grow. Possibly a comparison with Blacksky. Or their Financials. Nonetheless thank you :)
2022 is all about the smaller, more considered plays. Buy now, play conservative and observe for a few years. If the Fed can pull off making sure inflation peaks early this year and starts getting under control by the end of the year, then we might be in a good spot!
It makes me happy to see you're still doing research into growth companies! I figured you were going to stay defensive while everything is so volatile. But can you step outside aerospace? I dipped hard I to RKLB after that video and I dont want to tilt the balance too hard.
First time to watch Moby's video as i was researching PL business, UA-cam search brings me here. Thanks for your great effort. Very informative and easy to understand for a layman like me. As an investment, I am also interested in any existing and potential competition. Also it seems to me that PL is doing something really "rocket science", which implies high R&D investment but maybe low/uncertain in return or to commercialise. Anyway, i put it in watch list and agree that it is a good speculative stock to put in the portfolio
Great, organized video with enthusiastic delivery. Well done with summary coverage on a big story. On 2/1 Cramer said (summarily) that PL does not have a large enough TAM to justify an investment. What are your thoughts? I thought your video hit on many important points that Cramer ignored. I have been so impressed with Planet Labs that I accumulated 7100 shares as it has been trading in the $5 - $6 range. I think the inflationary environment of January has brought PL down to a solid trading base that will be a good place to hold up under the volatility of Fed rate increases. I think March has the makings of a great month for earnings and April will be huge if(when) Google extends contract that is coming up for renewal after 5 years since selling Terra to PL, the price will return to its Dec issue levels and a bit beyond ... providing the press catch on the story. I am very curious to know the details of Google's "undisclosed" level of investment. Any guesses?
Absolutely do a deep dive on planet labs.. BUT!.. use examples like the Panama incident because people still don't truly grip why PL is gunna be bonkers-big in share
@@Mobyinvest Yes! Like really show them why they're prime as a go-to (& maybe why we should avoid the sketchy implications of their would-be competitors like black sky)
It's a good point! We're trying to keep these videos tight--but you have my word that I'll eventually do a follow-up analysis on Blacksky, which is the closest thing to a legit competitor. There are other earlier stage constellations, but blacksky has the most potential.
@@Mobyinvest thanks for acknowledgment, this is the wide problem with UA-camrs , always skipping competition, giving the false impression that this is the only company providing such services/product. Just one two sentences mentioning just names of other companies would do. BTW, there are many small cube sats companies even e.g. SatRev from Poland. With cheaper cost of launch providers the moat may be smaller them expected.

Planet Labs went down after you posted this. The whole market did, but Planet Labs did, too. I liked the video also!
This is maybe our most Zen comment of all time.

Appreciate these videos, watching this close. As tech sells off this will be a great buy

Ugh man you went and gave me permission. Now I've got no choice but to nerd out on this.

Same here! Stoked I kept buying those delicious dips. To. The. Moon!
No mention of any competitors, poor video
Blacksky? Lol
