I've building models for a long time. I've always used the dappling method of applying the 'rust' on top of the paint. This is pretty great.
Years ago i have seen dude was even puting screws to water for few weeks to make real rust, i was using this method too mixed with paint and real metal parts grinned and rusted, I love salt technique, but my favorite is to put small parts of salt to make it little more realistic.Small partickles of salt stay under the paint and sometimes it makes more effects, great tutorial!
