- Thank you for watching my video! In this video, I showed you how to connect a Yamaha receiver to a Samsung Smart TV via HDMI ARC. While, I showed a Samsung TV in this video, it doesn't mean that you could connect, for example, a VIZIO TV. You can connect any TV brand to the Yamaha receiver as long as it has HDMI ARC capability. THANK YOU!!!! I’ve never used this feature before so I was using Optical output to my receiver. Long story short, optical output got messed up, and while trying to search for solutions, I discovered that I could use HDMI ARC. Problem is I couldn’t figure out how to get it to work. Your video saved me a TON of time and frustration.
Glad to hear my video was helpful!
Your tutorial got me set up! After 3 days googling/youtubing /redditing trying to figure out why my new tv hdmi eArc was not working with my thrifted high end receiver. I bought new high end cords, went through ever tv setting-even bought a new budget Yamaha receiver. It wasn’t until your tutorial that it dawned on me that plugging hdmi in was not the same as having it connected. I never knew the receiver had to be set up beyond hooking it up and pressing the tv button to connect. Gah!!! I knew there had to be a way and you showed me how. Thank you so much!! Happy holidays-Merm.
You’re welcome! I’m glad that my video was able to help you through the process. Happy holidays!
Nice job Alex! I had never used eARC to connect to a smart TV and I struggled for over an hour trying to get the TV to connect properly to my AV receiver. Once I followed your instructions my receiver started updating its software. After that I set up the receiver just like you indicated and BOOM! It worked
Glad I could help!
Thank you!! Perfect video for what I needed ❤
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you so much. You saved the day. Clear and to the point. I appreciate your video so much!
You're welcome! I'm glad my video was able to help!
Hi and thank you. But, can you use all your apps like Spotify etc and have the music go through the amp? Also, in your opinion. Shall we hook all external devices to amp first or tv? And then feed the signal via hdmi arc. I have a Qled Samsung and I will be getting a Yamaha rx v667. Any help with this is truly soo appreciated.
You're welcome! Yes, your Samsung TV will have apps like Spotify, so you can select the music on your TV, and it will play through your receiver. I recommend plugging in all your devices first to avoid any issues. Plug in power to both devices and then the HDMI Arc to both devices. Once you've done this, you can turn on both devices and test them to make sure they are both receiving the signals!
Alex. This was perfect. i was so frustrated with this but your instructions were near perfect. All I would add is a little more focus on the source; AV1 - AV6 and Audio on the configuration menu. with AV1 and AV5 i only got 2 speakers and sub but, on "Audio" I got all 5 speakers and the Sub. Still I had nothing until i watched your video. Much appreciated.
I'm sorry my video didn't cover this. I didn't think it would be an issue. Glad it was able to work for you!
Bro my yamaha av receivers remote is out of order.could tell me to do these settings thru yamaha buttons on the receiver.
Sure! I can help you with the process! I am currently working on a video that shows you how to do this using the buttons on the receiver. I'll paste the link to the video once It's published!
Hello! I have this receiver and there is no HDMI, so how can I do it?
Sorry this is my receiver: Yamaha HTR -5930
I figured out my connection issue thanks to you!🙌🏼🥂
Glad I could help!
Hi, I set up my Yamaha receiver to my new Hisense smart tv as per your instructions including using set up on the receiver remote and yes I get sound on my new tv except I have to do a few things first to get the sound which seems a bit odd. When I turn on my tv with the tv remote the receiver comes on as well as the tv which is great but I get the black screen which is the HDMI that the receiver is set to. So I have to go to source on the tv remote and hit tv and then I have sound but often times I don't so I have to hit source again and go down to the receiver and hit ok so the screen goes black then I have to hit source again and then go to tv and then I have sound. It seems like a lot of messing around. I also see Decoder off quite a bit. I have no idea how to make it so when I turn the tv on I just have sound without all this messing around. It has been suggested to me to try using an optical cable but I haven't tried that yet. Any ideas on what I could try to resolve the issue? Thank you
Yes, this shouldn’t be happening. Once you connect your TV and receiver via HDMI Arc, it shouldn’t switch to the source where you connected your receiver to the TV. The TV should recognize it, but it shouldn’t switch to the input every time. Something I recommend is trying another HDMI cable. Sometimes, a cable can cause issues. If nothing works, try using an optical cable. This will for sure work, as it won’t use your TV remote to control your receiver. Before you try an optical cable, you can also try unplugging everything, power and the HDMI cable. Sometimes a simple reboot can help.
@@alextorres3282 Hi Alex, thank you for getting back to me. I have changed the HDMI cable to an ultra high speed one and had a better look at the sound settings on the tv and somehow I've managed to work it out and now I have sound when I turn the tv on. Thank you
Thank you very much!! It works!
Glad it helped!
Is it any regular hdmi cord?
Yes, you can use any HDMI cable, but sometimes using a high-speed HDMI cable can help reduce connection issues!
What model is that yamaha
I think its an HDR-8066
Any options for a lost remote? I'll try and order a used remote.
You can try navigating through the settings using the buttons on the receiver, although it might be more tricky. Using the remote is the fastest option!
@alextorres3282 I didn't have much luck. I ordered a used remote from ebay.
That sounds good! It will be easier to navigate and change the settings.
Worked, thank you for this.
You're welcome!
What if you want the option of choosing between audio from tv speakers or receiver?
Great question! If you want to switch back to TV speakers anytime, you can do so without unplugging the HDMI cable. All you need to do is turn off the receiver when the TV is on. When you click the volume button on your TV remote, it should say "TV Speaker." If you want the audio back to the receiver, turn on the receiver, and it should say "HDMI Arc." Hope this helps!
Thank you so much 😊
You're welcome!
I am not able to see the menu on screen of the receiver. Do you have a idea on how to see the menu on screen? Or a alternate way to do it? thx
After you’ve connected the HDMI cable to the HDMI Arc port to your TV switch the input on your TV to that HDMI port. It might be 1, 2, 3, 4, etc. it’s all different on every TV. Once you’ve selected the source, press the menu button on your receiver remote, and you should be able to see your receiver settings on your TV. Hope this helps!
@ Thx! Now it work!
this worked for me thanks so much 🙏‼️‼️‼️
You're welcome!
Would this work with the Yamaha RX V367?
Yes! It should work with any receiver that has an HDMI out connection. Make sure to connect the HDMI to the HDMI out on the receiver and the HDMI cable from your receiver to the HDMI Arc port to your TV. If it doesn’t pick it up automatically, follow the steps I showed you how to do at 3:02. Hope this helps!
It worked pretty well for me!! Just one thing, every time I pause the movie it gets muted then when I press play I need to change the input to audio2 and back to audio1 again to work… is that any kind of configuration?
This is not supposed to happen. Something you can do is unplug the HDMI cable and plug it in again. On my receiver it doesn’t change when I push play. Although, in settings, you can set a main TV input for the receiver. I have mine set to AV1. But this doesn’t change anything.
What if the receiver says Decoder off? Should I try factory reset on it?
No, I don’t think you should reset it. Follow the same steps and it should work.
What if your TV doesn't have ARC, how would you get TV sound through to the amp?
If your TV doesn’t have HDMI Arc, you can connect it to your receiver via a digital optical cable. This is the second-best option if your TV doesn’t have HDMI Arc.
Legend 👍
I have a tv box that used the hdmi cable how do I do that
If you have an HDMI cable connected to the HDMI Arc connection of your TV, you can either remove it and find an alternative way to watch what you had connected. Or if you cannot remove it because you need it, the most recommended answer is to not use HDMI Arc and instead use a Digital Optical cable from your TV to the receiver. This is the second-best option from HDMI Arc.
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You’re welcome!
I was just given a Yamaha RX-A740 receiver. My Samsung TV will power it OFF but not ON again. The TV keeps reverting to it's own speakers. I've searched all over the web for a solution only to find Samsungs don't pair well with Yamaha. Is there something you did to make it work and is it still working for you? I had a Sony receiver before and the TV was controlling it's power with no issues.
No, I didn’t do anything besides plugging in the HDMI cable. I’m not sure what may be the issue. All you can try is turning off the HDMI Arc function for like a few seconds. Turn the whole system on. And turn on HDMI Arc again, but I don’t know if this would work.
I’m sorry…. Im still having trouble. I have a roku Tv and when i go set everything up it still doesn’t work.
I have an xbox plugged into it as well
Xbox plugged into HDMI 1
Tv plugged into ARC
Yet my xbox shows and plays sound through my stereo, but the Tv doesn’t make any signs what soever that it even has something plugged into it
I’m sorry for the late reply! Did you turn on the settings I showed at 3:02? This might be the issue why it doesn’t pick up the receiver because it looks like you’ve connected it correctly. Hope this helps!
connected my receiver arc to arc and tv still shows no signal even after pressing set up, any ideas?
Make sure that your receiver is turned on and make sure that your TV is set to the HDMI Arc connection. If that doesn’t work, you can plug in the HDMI from your TV to another input just to set the Arc setting on the receiver to “on”. Once you've done that, you can move the HDMI from the TV back to the Arc port. Hopefully this works!
@@alextorres3282 thanks for the response! I unplugged from the tv and tried on a separate monitor and it actually worked then plugged back to the tv and now it works. Not sure what happened lol
You’re welcome! Glad it worked!
Dzień dobry
Mam taki problem w tv.
I’m glad that my video was helpful! Did you ensure that you’ve connected the HDMI cable from your receiver to the HDMI Arc port on your TV? If you did, make sure you’ve turned on the Arc setting on the receiver that I showed you how to do at 3:02. I hope this helps!
My tv is a tcl but it doesn’t works, what else can I do?
If you followed all the steps and your TV still isn’t picking up the receiver, your TV might not be compatible with HDMI Arc. For the second best audio quality, you can connect a digital optical cable from your TV to the receiver. before this step, ensure you’ve connected the HDMI cable from your receiver to the HDMI Arc port on your TV.
Thank you for this… I was at least able to get the sound to work with my Yamaha receiver.
However, it doesn’t work consistently… sometime I turn it on, and nothing… have to re do the entire process . Sometimes it goes in and out, I’ve tried different HDMI cables… ordered a brand new one and it doesn’t seem to work at all, other than going to the black screen so you can do the set up process… never plays on the speakers.
It also typically will on play 3 speakers vs 7… regardless of basic/bi amp/ zone b setting… sometime it will play 4 or 5 but never 7. I haven’t figured out the inconsistency so far… just seems random
Optic audio has always worked without any issues ever… do you know if there is an adapter that could go from hdmi (arc) to optic ? I wonder if it would still work as inconsistently as using solely arc ?
Thank you!
I’m sorry that it didn’t quite work for you. I do think that they do sell an optical to HDMI Arc adapter, but I can’t guarantee that it would work because I have never worked with something like that before. You look up optical to HDMI Arc adapter. Yes, the second-best option is a digital optical cable if your TV doesn’t support HDMI Arc. Hope this helps!
Didn't work for me. I have a a rx a760 Yamaha receiver, most of the screens looked exactly like yours. When I turn the arc on the audio control does not switch to the volume changing from the TV remote and no sound even at full volume.
Did you check and see if the HDMI Arc setting is turned on your TV? If it’s off, that’s why it might not pass audio.
@@alextorres3282 found on some Yamaha online forum that the default HDMI surround sound setting for this receiver is AV4, not AV1. A solid 3h of working on this. Frustrating but working. My head can't grasp using HDMI OUT to get a signal from another device and how I have nothing plugged in to AV1 but that's what I need to turn on to get my TV signal. Whatever, it works.
I don't have hdmi arc on TV and the tv doesn't detect the receiver
If your TV does not have HDMI Arc, then the receiver and TV are not going to connect. An alternative connection could be an Optical Cable. It’s the second-best option below HDMI Arc.
Don't appreciate having to watch a 5 minute hardshell commercial b4 the vid with no skip....oh with here's another commercial!!!!!!
I'm sorry you're having issues with the ads; I don't have any control over them.
I’ve just tried this and there’s still no sound 😫😫 did everything you said
Make sure that you have connected the HDMI cable into the HDMI Arc port on your TV. Hope this helps.
@@alextorres3282 did that and the light even shows tv on the amp but no sound
You want to make sure that HDMI Arc is enabled on your TV. Sometimes it doesn’t come on. Also, make sure that HDMI Arc is enabled on your receiver. Hope this helps.
