Stage 3 tuning would include upgraded turbochargers, so it actually depends on what kind of turbochargers one chooses to go with. ~550bhp and ~1300nm would probably not be too much for the engine to stay reliable, but the drivetrain could be an obstruction, I'm not sure it can sustain without being reinforced, and how extensive work it would mean. My turbochargers are factory stock, untouched! The problem with finding tuning parts on the aftermarket for these engines lies in the short coming of demand. Very very few people ordered these engines, and even fewer of those who did has ever had any plans in modifying them. This OM629 diesel is not generally considered a selection for performance and driving pleasure, for a couple of different possible reasons. But it's such a brutal and lovely engine in my opinion! I'm not personally looking for an upgrade for my turbochargers now, but if you really want it you can likely get it, in one way or another. The narrow aftermarket makes it more difficult and it takes more effort to get the tuning you're after, but it's most often not impossible.

1400nm would likely be too much for the transmission(but who knows..). Could it be reinforced to handle it? Probably, but it would certainly involve alot of hassle with the TCU-software. I'm sure it's no easy task, but if I were to let Kleemann have my car for a month or two for testing and development, it could likely be done.
I'm very sure that one could actually obtain 450-500rwhp for the 420 CDI if you really wanted to. Bigger turbochargers and upgraded injectors etc. etc. It should have about 1350-1400nm at that stage. I'm not after that level of tuning for this car though, this is my daily driver and I'm happy with the performance as it is. I'm getting a new Limited Slip Differential though, I've got serious problems with tractions until I reach 70km/h.
I just saw a 2007 E420 CDI with 250.000km selling for 9.000€ in my country, so I guess 14.900 for that one you found could be a decent price. Depends on how the car is in other aspects too, ofcourse!

Hi, thank you very much! Does your E400 CDI have DPF? If it has, you will gain the biggest difference in exhaust sound by deleting that. By doing this you would have to remap your ECU once again though, but you would also be able to gain some more power since the DPF is restrictive to the exhaust flow. However you could start out by deleting the mufflers and see if that satisfies you. That should lead to a bit more interesting growl than stock, and you won't need any remapping.
How its your transmission worked? It id all good at stock 7g, or this is amg transmission MCT? I want to chip mine but i hear something wrong about 7g transmission in V8 Biturbo Diesel.

Awesome! OM606 with Holset HX52 is some good stuff though!
1:03 Saab 😍😍😘😘.
Yup, very nice👌😂
Sounds like a Harley
I'm very sure that one could actually obtain 450-500rwhp for the 420 CDI if you really wanted to. Bigger turbochargers and upgraded injectors etc. etc. It should have about 1350-1400nm at that stage.
I'm not after that level of tuning for this car though, this is my daily driver and I'm happy with the performance as it is. I'm getting a new Limited Slip Differential though, I've got serious problems with tractions until I reach 70km/h.
sounds like scania v8 ^^
Oh, thanks! Not bad, I love the sound of Scania V8's.
@@bkorven i too mate :) best trucks, high quality from Sweden
Hi! It's not for sale right now, sorry.
this is probably the best w211 ever made, cant belive i bought an e500 instead do they sell these in NA?
These were not sold in North America, but you might be able to import one? Don't know, but hopefully you can!
No such luck.
Unfortunately not.
I want to buy a 2008 E420 CDI for with 81.400 km.
Do you think 14.900 € is a good price?
Thanks in advance.
I just saw a 2007 E420 CDI with 250.000km selling for 9.000€ in my country, so I guess 14.900 for that one you found could be a decent price. Depends on how the car is in other aspects too, ofcourse!
I just bought e270 with 145kkm 1 previos owner (old lady) and i like the sound of R5 engine sure it is not monster e420 like you have but maybe you know what can I tune on my e270? I mean ecu tunning to get little more HP and something to make car sound better?
Hi, thank you very much!
Does your E400 CDI have DPF? If it has, you will gain the biggest difference in exhaust sound by deleting that. By doing this you would have to remap your ECU once again though, but you would also be able to gain some more power since the DPF is restrictive to the exhaust flow.
However you could start out by deleting the mufflers and see if that satisfies you. That should lead to a bit more interesting growl than stock, and you won't need any remapping.
Beautiful😘😇❤❤❤❤
Thank you! 😊😘

Is it on stock turbos? just the chip, tuning, waterpump and exhaust? amazing!
Jasons Ernests Mazkalnins Yes, that's right, stock turbos. Thanks! :)
I'm eager to make racing videos, and will try and find some opportunities to film some. I've raced alot lately, just haven't had my camera on hand.
Det tackar jag för ;)
How its your transmission worked? It id all good at stock 7g, or this is amg transmission MCT? I want to chip mine but i hear something wrong about 7g transmission in V8 Biturbo Diesel.
It has been working without problems! It is the stock 7G. I won't dismiss what you've heard, but I'll just speak from personal experience. I haven't heard about problems with 7G in 420 CDI powertrains, however in 63 AMG powertrains. I don't think you should need to worry!
Hi, I am working on my S400CDI to achieve similiar horsepower, what engine mods did u perform to reach 400?
Hi! All that was done to reach that power figure was modified exhaust and ECU-tune. With similar mods to the 400 CDI, you can expect 300-320 hp.
Yeah but they said to me that if you delete the DPF you have got a lot of black smoke out of you're exhaust so i decidet to not delete but i think that i do it because that sound makes me crazy haha:D i gave you 1 tip change you're transmission with a raceplate its gaves more power on all of the gears while the car is shifting i have do that and it shift very very quick now
Hi just in the process lf buying a CLS 420cdi. Would like a similar sound from the exhaust, can I ask what I need to do to achieve this, is it catback straight through? ie. Cats are still in place? along with dpf?
Hey! Yes, it's cat-back straight piped. I.e. DPF delete and muffler delete. The cats are still in place, yes!
hey, like your channel one of the mine favorite car's u have. (y) But can you explain chip ecu i understand but for what reason you change water pump to kleeemann? ;)
nice diesel engine and this 1000nm with gearbox(5Gears//gears)?
Thanks! It has a 7-speed gearbox
and its better for you're engine/transmission because the car makes a lot of rpm if you know what i meen
Hey bkorven, very nice machine. Little question... or 2. I have the same CLK AMG BS wheels on my E320 but mine rub on the rear mud guard. Do you have the 9" or 9,5" wide on the rear and what tires are you using front & rear?
TheD3DOT Hi, thanks. They are 9,5" wide in the rear. I've also had problems with rubbing before. Now, since my rear mudguards are rolled, and I went down from 285mm wide tires to 275mm, the wheels don't rub anymore. So you might need to do the same.
TheD3DOT 255mm in the front by the way(and haven't ever had any problems with rubbing in the front)
bkorven Thnx mate, I also run the 255 in the front, no problems whatsoever ;)
bkorven Thougt so... I still have the original 285 at the back, and a bit too much toe out on the left lol... Time to call my friend/tire man ;)
hello friend, I love this car. I own a Mercedes E400 cdi 2006, you could advise me how to change the exhaust I've remapped the ECU.
hey Eric, how are you? hope you're fine. i went last time to copenhagen in denemark and i think that i'll go back. i saw that i could take the train to malmo, is it far from where you live? cuz i really really love your car man and i would like to see it live.

The question is would the transmission handle 1400NM.I know 722.6 handles 1000NM behind the V12 engines.Could it be reinforced more to handle 1400NM ?
I Like the number xD
I know this video is old by now but do you still own this beauty ?
I still do own it, yes. Thank you 😉
@@bkorven Very nice. I have my w211 11 years now also done an few modifications to it
@@Ben_Z33 Ah, that's very cool! This w211 has been in my family for 13 years now! I've owned it the last 9. No plans selling it.
Do you still drive it? Whats the milage, how did it hold up over time?
I still drive it! The milage has just passed 200k km now. It has hold up excellently, I'd say it still feels as new. No issues with the engine or drivetrain yet.
You ever had problems with it? How did it handle the extra power?
No engine or drivetrain related problems in connection with the tuning. In other words, it has handled the power very well so far!
what have you done to your drivetrain to make it handle 1000nm ? original gearbox ?
+olerobherm1993 .olerobherm1993 I've done absolutely nothing. Stock drivetrain, it holds.
Have you still got the car if so how has long term reliability been
I do still have it! The reliability has been very good. I've have a little trouble with the pre-glow system throughout the years, but that's all I can think of.
I just bought 2004 e270 with 145kkm 1 previos owner (old lady) and i like the sound of R5 engine sure it is not monster e420 like you have but maybe you know what can I tune on my e270? I mean ecu tunning to get little more HP and something to make car sound better? Oh and mine has manual gearbox
Nice. Those 5-cyl engines can sound great with modified exhaust. Also, an exhaust upgrade would result in a slight further increase in power, along with an ECU-tune. I think that could be two mods to look into, to begin with. Cool that it has the manual gearbox!
@@bkorven thank you alot for your help mate!
@@psychomaniac7911 No problems, anytime!
Did you have any problem related to the SBC pump and abc suspension yet?
how does this load from the transmission? You have a limit from 730nm
Lämnade in!
How fast ist your car now from 0-100. i got an s 420 cdi and want to let the ecu optimize and throw the pdf out
0-100 km/h in about 5.3s. Nice, do it!
does it have shift paddles behind the steering wheel?
Is this powerfull than a 535d with remap and few performance extras
Yes, it should be. The 535D's advantage though is that it's roughly 200kg lighter.
wow :D
