- We drove to the North side of the park to visit the Mammoth Hot Springs area, another amazing and wonderful geological feature that helps make Yellowstone such a unique place. The boardwalks allow guests to walk along the hot mineral water that is coming upon out of the ground and view its ever changing shapes and formations. This place is mysterious and beautiful!

Did you notice if you drove by it leaving....on your right....there were other huge dead mounds as well that went way way back as well ? ( most people miss them ) They too are interesting, explaining how old Mammoth is. Not safe to get out and go look, many soft and thin areas, but still interesting. Hope you enjoyed your trip. Yellowstone has been a favorite place of mine for well over 30 years. You will notice each year how it changes. (little geysers springing up here and there, some spew more than before, chemical color changes etc. ) LaMar area is a favorite for me....all the wildlife up close. By the way.....the Soda Butte cone you will see on the LaMar road...many think it is dead...wrong. Walk around to the back of it, you will see whiffs of smoke and can really smell it. (the little ground critters that live in the clusters on the side are friendly)
Having visited this area years ago I can see (as you mentioned) how the terraces have changed. Shows how the actions of the hot springs are alive and evolving continuously, not just stagnant pools and streams falling down the side of the mountain. Great video again!
Really enjoyed watching you this year and your vacation I felt like I was right there with you watching the Yellowstone geyser

I remember trying to explain the beauty of this place with pictures. It doesn't translate as good as it actually is. Everyone needs to see this place in person. You can not believe it without seeing it
I agree. Seeing it all in person is truly the best.
The travertine formations are beautiful. Have seen them in many locations where there is cascading, high mineral content water.

Yea unfortunately Yellowstone is always packed! Best to get in early but by mid day it’s filled up.

what setting do you use on your Go Pro for that time lapse? It was awesome.
I’m using the time warp mode with the faster frame rate. I’ll then edit the speed to speed it up even more in the video software.
I've always liked the rimstone dam formations. Does anyone know if the elk use the mineral deposits as salt licks?
According to some research done there, the wildlife do take advantage of the minerals in some areas.
