@CHC4669 Both are monster musicians. I would say Vinnie is a bit more versatile than Dennis. He can morph into whatever the situation needs. Dennis is a powerhouse. Great feel, jaw dropping hand speed. I'm in awe of both of these guys.
VINNIE RULES!!! One of the most amazing drummers that has ever walked this planet!!! BTW, I enjoyed looking at the beautiful woman in the frame too. Hahaha
At 6:10 the dudes are into it and they are literally ALL staring at Vinny like robots, all the while Landau is CRUSHING that solo!! I mean, come on.... I LOVE me some Vinny but WOW!
This Stage Rehearsal is SO good, that I don't even care about sound quality. It has haunted my soul to the point of needing to replay & study it several times per day for the last 2 weeks. Best players on earth. ;+)
THIS IS AN AMAZING FOOTAGE OF VINNIE AND THIS VERY SPECIAL BAND. THERE AREN'T MANY VIDEOS OF KARISMA ON THE INTERNET. I WAS BLOWN WHEN AT 3:40 THEY START PLAYING ONE OF MY FAVOURITE TUNES WHICH IS IN 11/8 GREAT !! THANKS FOR SHARING THIS.
Wow!! Thank you for sharing such a raw video of Vinnie’s sound check. I personally like this types of videos because some times he is unaware that somebody is filming him and he shows some nuggets in his playing.
Glory to God in the Mighty Name of Jesus Christ, Vinnie is a one of a kind drummer, the 3 greatest drummer in the world, are Steve Gadd, Dave Weckl, and Vinnie Colaiuta.
He has been the only one (or one of the first) bringing the 16th note displacement phrasing concept to the table. Maybe that's why his nickname is Skippy? ❤
Super great moment. The original footage appears to be done on miniDV: so by the time ‘it’ reaches UA-cam - the audio is LATE. That makes some comments here pretty funny to read.
It was the document album that made me buy the white V.C signature series gretsch, but I like this one better because the toms are mounted, mine is a virgin bass drum!
That’s so cool you bought his Signature kit. Personally I’d prefer my kit to have a virgin bass drum but he has gotten away from that and RIMS style, suspension mounts on the toms as well. I love his newer cobalt blue kit the best but this was iconic kit for sure. I don’t even need to ask how great your kit sounded. That’s like asking if Vinnie played the gig well. Some things in life are a given. Death, taxes, That Great Gretsch Sound and Vinnie just killing it!!!

I saw where Professor Peart thought this guy was really good... I see why now. I hear the similarities. Yeah, I'm digging his playing. And while he's not like Peart, nor Peart like him, they're close enough that I can see why Neil liked him. There is, however, a certain resemblance to the drumming technique of the late, great, Bun E. Carlos also... Hey, can you spare a light?
IMO he's heavily influenced by Porcaro, one of his idol. Just listen to Toto record, their approach and fill in style are somewhat born from same root 😊
The sound of those drums!! The attitude! It just permeates! Thank you for posting this video!
Mike Landau on guitar...love it!
That guitar sounds like a dinosaur 🦕 😮😂
Best drummer that's ever lived
One of them - yes.
IN MY OPINION, he is the best drummer that's ever lived,
@CHC4669 Dennis Chambers is good at fusion drumming because he has a heavy style of playing.
Who but he? Who came up with 7 days at Sting? Super!
@CHC4669 Both are monster musicians. I would say Vinnie is a bit more versatile than Dennis. He can morph into whatever the situation needs. Dennis is a powerhouse. Great feel, jaw dropping hand speed. I'm in awe of both of these guys.

Soundcheck of one of the most incredible live Vinnie performance ever.
Only Vinnie can talk to two different sound people playing odd time While he stands up to finish a fill and not have it sound any different!
Best drummer ever!!
I think it’s amazing how Vinnie can give instruction to a crew member but yet still play that odd time groove and not miss a beat! 7:57
Vinnie has a plethora of superpowers...
Vai himself told the story of how he was reading super complex Zappa's charts and eating sushi while adjusting his glasses at the same time...
The guy is just one serious badass chopsmonster, period...
It's great at 6 minutes as there's an amazing guitar solo happening and all the crew are watching Vinnie :-)
It's a drum show, and Vinnie's the star.
Vinnie is just goofing with these songs that most normal drummers can't even play if they really were serious about it.
At 6:10 the dudes are into it and they are literally ALL staring at Vinny like robots, all the while Landau is CRUSHING that solo!! I mean, come on.... I LOVE me some Vinny but WOW!
Landau is great!!
Alfa gotta be Alfa
This video is a real gem!
I think with a little time and some more dedication, Vinnie‘s really going to make something out of himself one of these days
"He used to cut my grass, he used to be a very nice boy", lol
He sure shows potential

10:36 Give that man a raise.
🤣🤣🤣
Wow! Karizma 2000 soundcheckíng. Thanks for sharing!
Vinnie is such a bad ass, at 10:36 he grows a 3rd arm just to light his cigarette.
🤣
Mick Landau shredding @6 min in yet all eyes on Vinninator
Holy Shit and Landau is on fire.....Amazing that these guys ignore this amazing throw down by Landau
probably because it’s a drum festival sound check, i imagine a lot of them were drummers lol
1:46 - Of course there's Vinnie, no introduction needed.
But the sound of that guitar... 🥰 Holdsworth-esque.
Michael Landau ... i attended more than 6 concerts with his band in Europe.
10:29 gotta have a smoke 🚬 so cool looking just plain cool and original
Guitarist as an amazing sound....
Vinnie is always keeping 3 feels and time signatures at once. Amazing.
Such amazing musicians. VINNIE BADASS
The best in the world incredible vinnie colaiuta
next to his teacher Gary Chaffee..
bangbetter.xxx
thank you for the upload !!! this is my favorite fusion band !!! 😘
Thanks for sharing this; haven’t heard of these guys before but this is amazing!
find someone that look at you the way those technicians look Vinnie
Wow! THIS is a serious TREAT!
This is almost 20 years ago. Like most drummers nowadays, Vinnie has his cymbals much lower than they were at this time.
"are you the drum tech of Mr Colaiuta?"..."no,i just light up his cigarette when he wants to"
Glory to God in the Mighty Name of Jesus Christ, Vinnie is a one of a kind drummer, the 3 greatest drummer in the world, are Steve Gadd, Dave Weckl, and Vinnie Colaiuta.
Tom Brechlein -
Honestly I do not see how you put Gadd in the same bracket. Steve Smith.
Should be called the Vinnie video with some soundcheck stuff.
He has been the only one (or one of the first) bringing the 16th note displacement phrasing concept to the table. Maybe that's why his nickname is Skippy? ❤
SMH@Vinnie. The guy has 4 limbs in the 6th dimension. That's the only way to explain it.
9:38 "this thing still sounds fucking hot" haha
Wherever this f... guy goes and whoever he plays with he always just steals the spotlight. Thing is he fully deserves it damn it!
Super great moment. The original footage appears to be done on miniDV: so by the time ‘it’ reaches UA-cam - the audio is LATE. That makes some comments here pretty funny to read.

E MB great sound man. One day, I had Marco Minnemann tune up my toms!!! Daaaaaammmnnnnnn!!!!!!!!!! It couldnt get better!
@@emb2302 fun fact, his cobalt blue kit shells are allegedly his old #1 white kit, gretsch repurposed them, read that somewhere
Vinnie is the man , and those drums sound Incredible....
I wonder what time signature he was smoking that cig in.
Michael Landau...!!!
I used to smoke while I drummed. I hated getting ashes all over me when the ash would get so long and I didn’t have time to do anything with them.
At 19:13 time begins to be relative.
Vinnie Colaiuta my "Drum-Hero" !!!
Cliff Richard smokin and playin drums. well i never
Good call on Mikey. I thought he looked like Holdsworth until the guitar didn't whale.
Great video. What is the name of the song in 11? The first song. Amazing musicians
Heavy Resin
Tremendous gift... thanks
5:35 Steven Seagal on the keyboard, folks.
Garfield is The Man :D
@14:37 just 4 snare strokes but soooo nasty! He is like.....i dont even know what .....
Less is more mode. It's with intent, very savage.

Drums and combustible vapors.
10:36 gets me every time XD
Man!!! Vinnie must have liked you!!
He didn’t like anyone videotaping his performances!!
this sound check was for the modern drummer festival which was being filmed anyway
@@malcolmlarri9073 No, this soundcheck was shot in Germany, for a huge drum Fest in Koblenz.
@@RogerBiwandu thanks for the correct information - appreciated :-)
Malcolm Larri Cheers mate. 😉
From 20 min during the solo over the vamp it starts to get Really scary 😱

That´s the great Michael Landau.
